Robert Bliss (1936 to 2020) I share the sadness of those who have already expressed their feelings eloquently on social media and elsewhere.

If you were a social scientist you would never, for one minute, believe that Robert and I would be friends. Although on opposite sides of the political divide, we shared more in common than in our difference. We didn't hold back in expressing our opposing views but the substance of our friendship was a shared desire to see fairness and equitability reintroduced into a society that had sadly jettisoned both those virtues. We participated in a number of collaborations not the least being the protection of the Sandgate Library. This resulted in him asking me to make an audio video, showing the essential role played by the Library in Sandgate not just as an important book lending facility but in the myriad of popular community activities that also take place. He invited a senior person at Kent County Council to attend a showing.

It worked. He saved the Sandgate Library.

What better tribute, although one of many, to an amazing man.

The Sandgate Market has four types of stallholder: 1. Local produce: meat, veg, bread, cakes, jams, pies etc 2. Local made: jewellery, soft toys, furnishings etc

3. Local enterprise: local residents running a business but selling products not necessarily produced locally but that you might just like to buy for yourself or as gifts 4. Local causes: worthy causes that we support and hope you will too

This is the tale of Hana, a young girl who moves from where she was born in London, to the Kent coast. They discover a wonderful area called Prince's Parade which is full of amazing animals, has a beautiful canal and is right next to the sea too! By buying this book you will be helping to protect it. All profits from it will be donated to the Save Prince's Parade campaign which aims to halt plans to develop the area into a housing estate.

This walk through the history of Sandgate to the present day was first performed at the Chichester Hall a decade ago on Wednesday, 9th June. It is now available on Kindle or in paperback.

Funding Available The Hythe Institute Fund considers applications for funding from local organisations including schools, scouts and guide groups, sports clubs and the trustees of local halls and facilities; who may require funds for maintenance or improvements.

The recipients must be in the Hythe parish (including Hythe, Seabrook, Saltwood, Palmarsh, Lympne and Newingreen).

We are delighted that we have been able to reopen the Chichester Hall for hires and this week saw the return of the Sandgate Art Group, Pilates and, on Saturday, the Sandgate Farmers Market. I meet with each group and we agree a Covid-19 compliant set of rules that ensure that their activity is again enjoyed safely.

Before each session I set up the agreed layout for chairs and tables and they are sanitised as are all the obvious touch points throughout the Hall. After the session, the same happens again. It's a labour All set up and ready to go intensive process but essential if we are to feel comfortable as we try to get back to some form of normality.

Some groups have decided to delay their return until such times as the requirements are more conducive to their particular activity.
