As a lifetime proponent of art and systems, architecture was the natural choice for a career. Now that I have worked as an Architect for a period, I would like to continue to expand my understanding of Architecture and Art and finish the steps to become a Licensed Architect. My love of all thing’s art and architecture, and my yearning to be amongst those who create the changing context that form our cities and lives. Charles Eames said, “Eventually everything connects: people, ideas, objects. The quality of the connections is the key to the quality”. To be able to intimately understand how materials, structure, energy, light, space, society and function all interact with one other is how I feel architecture should be dealt with. Only through investigation can one better understand these systems to become a better designer. This opportunity to combine my love of art and design in a career has been the most rewarding decision of my life. Over the last several years, I have had the opportunity to work as an Architectural Intern at firms in the Houston area. Through my experience as an Intern, I have come to realize that architecture is a special blend of imagination, reality, creativity, and details. I’ve learned that no good project is done without a certain amount of care and attention and that this is not accomplished by a single person. It requires extensive communication with engineers, contractors, consultants and the client to achieve the best possible effect. Learning from the collective expertise of my team has not only illustrated how each project involves more than simply designing a building but has also demonstrated how creating and managing a construction project is logical, organized and defined. In my experience working for EMBT in Barcelona, I learned the importance of good design not only for the client, but the public that sees and uses the buildings. In addition, learning the new methods of construction, other cultures and construction documents outside of the US was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I enjoy learning, and I believe becoming a better designer is an ever-evolving endeavor. I am disciplined in my approach; I study hard, work harder, focus on the problem at hand and am not afraid to take the initiative. In the pursuit to enhance my skills to visually tell a story, I have taken it upon myself to learn new software, techniques and I still practice the art of Glassblowing. My commitment, work ethic, and self-motivation allow me to strive for the highest possible standards. Considering my skill set and my determination to be the best at what I do, I believe I have much to offer. My ambition is to contribute to society and culture by introducing a sophistication where harmony and beauty coalesce. Moreover, I am personable, sociable and a great asset to any team.
