As a lifetime proponent of art and systems, architecture was the natural choice for a career. Now that I have worked as an Architect for a period, I would like to continue to expand my understanding of Architecture and Art and finish the steps to become a Licensed Architect. My love of all thing’s art and architecture, and my yearning to be amongst those who create the changing context that form our cities and lives. Charles Eames said, “Eventually everything connects: people, ideas, objects. The quality of the connections is the key to the quality”. To be able to intimately understand how materials, structure, energy, light, space, society and function all interact with one other is how I feel architecture should be dealt with. Only through investigation can one better understand these systems to become a better designer. This opportunity to combine my love of art and design in a career has been the most rewarding decision of my life. Over the last several years, I have had the opportunity to work as an Architectural Intern at firms in the Houston area. Through my experience as an Intern, I have come to realize that architecture is a special blend of imagination, reality, creativity, and details. I’ve learned that no good project is done without a certain amount of care and attention and that this is not accomplished by a single person. It requires extensive communication with engineers, contractors, consultants and the client to achieve the best possible effect. Learning from the collective expertise of my team has not only illustrated how each project involves more than simply designing a building but has also demonstrated how creating and managing a construction project is logical, organized and defined. In my experience working for EMBT in Barcelona, I learned the importance of good design not only for the client, but the public that sees and uses the buildings. In addition, learning the new methods of construction, other cultures and construction documents outside of the US was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I enjoy learning, and I believe becoming a better designer is an ever-evolving endeavor. I am disciplined in my approach; I study hard, work harder, focus on the problem at hand and am not afraid to take the initiative. In the pursuit to enhance my skills to visually tell a story, I have taken it upon myself to learn new software, techniques and I still practice the art of Glassblowing. My commitment, work ethic, and self-motivation allow me to strive for the highest possible standards. Considering my skill set and my determination to be the best at what I do, I believe I have much to offer. My ambition is to contribute to society and culture by introducing a sophistication where harmony and beauty coalesce. Moreover, I am personable, sociable and a great asset to any team. Sincerely,

Gare Clichy - Montfermeil

Transit Center Professional Practice Paris, France, EU

Cliche Transit Center, located in Paris France. This project was the winner of a competition for the work. The building goes underground to meet the train station. I contributed to the project through working through details, designing the Abris Velos and Consigne Velo, (The open and closed bicicle parking). My contribution was in different portions of the project. Design of the Abris Velos and Consigne Velo. The following is a design series study of the different options. Abri / Consigne Velo

Velo Parking Professional Practice Paris, FR

Projects for EMBT Miralles / Taguiabue, this bike parking is a neccesity for this Transit Center in Paris, France. The inspiration for these two projects came from a project from Enric Miralles from over 25 years in the past. I worked with Benedetta Taguiabue and Dani Rosello in this project because of its significance to the firm. The overall design choices in this were about making the structure parts of these buildings evocotive of the lyrical and unique style of EMBT.

EZ Tag Store Prototype

Harris County Toll Road Authority Houston, TX

Prototype design series of EZ Tag Store for Harris County Toll Road Authority. The Client wanted to make a statement that would catch some attention and bring people to the store. Because the stores are located on the side of a freeway, the buildings should be readable and catch the eye of a person driving thier car at freeway speeds.. The main facade and Entry, is facing West and will block & filter the setting sun. This Buildings will be LEED Silver. The first of many is slated to be finished construction May 2021. Floating River

Pedestrian Bridge Undergraduate School Studio Seville, Spain

Design Contest: To connect the historic part of the city to the modern part. These two sections of the city are separated by a river. The “Floating River” uses the elements of water and flow to connect these two separate elements of the city. It is a central point for pedestrians to congregate or pass thru. Water flowing in a river has separate levels and bubbles from the turbulence of these levels interacting. Bottom level is a quick pass thru, Level two is an open area, top level are the bubbles which act as a semi-private area.

Light Rail Station Graduate Studio Thesis Dallas, Texas

The need for a reliable public transportation system is something that we as Americans and Texans should be striving towards. As we become a more sustainable / green society, using affordable and reliable public transportation is a must. It will cut down on the carbon dioxide emissions and prove to be less dangerous than driving a car regularly. For the use of a public transportation system to be adequate and convenient, we must add light rail stations. These stations are like their larger cousins, but they serve a much smaller number of people. I propose to build a light rail station in the already developed public transportation infrastructure in and around Dallas, TX. The idea is to density the light rail route with more stations to make it more pedestrian friendly. In addition, adding commerce, concert and food program to the station, I believe this will further entice people to ride the rail or bus instead of driving their personal automobile.

The overall aesthetic looks to the project are evocative of a fissure of program coming from the ground with a walkable roof. The main building is positioned in such a spot that it engages the Glacier Bay as well and the landscape it inhabits. The materials are concrete, glass and corten steel. The materials are heavier in aesthetics, symbolic of the context from which it erupts.

The building itself creates a signage thats readable for pedestrians on the street or on the heavily used bike path to the north and motorists alike. After entering the complex, small blocks of spaces meant to house different programmatic elements are separated by these internal avenues. These spaces are all connected by an indoor/outdoor light well courtyard that goes all the way to the top of the building.

Life Center Housing

Halfway House Professional Practice Houston, TX

Life Center Housing is a non-profit organization centered on helping the less-fortunate. The house needed to be flexible; half of the house can be locked up and there is room for overflow. The main office area for the organization is in this house. The kitchen should be large enough for the household, and double to cook for events held in the courtyard area to the north. Following is my contribution to this project while working at Context3 where I was instructed how to draw the following plans, elevations, structural, electrical, civil and assemblies needed for construction documents. Jared Jackson + Context3 are the Architect of Record, Larry Lanz is the Engineer of Record and Maged Rifaat is the Plumbing + Electrical Engineer.

CULTURE FACTORY AMAZON GO + WE WORK ARCH: 6604 - MARTINEZ D. WESLEY CARLSON

PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Culture Factory Studio is located in the hieghts neighborhood of Houston, TX. Directly adjacent to the new Hieghts Mercantile District. The overall context of the area is single-family residence. Strip malls are installed for shopping, food and other amenities. A 5-story multi-family housing complex is located directly across Yale Street. This multi-family complex seems to be the only piece in the context thats out of place. This project is meant to house Amazon Go and WeWork. Amazon Go being a grocery store that does not require any interaction with people for checkout. WeWork is a company that rents office space. Both of these programs will need to be planned around a changing capcity of occupants using the space. I dealt with the context shift of the project by making my program space, ‘Unit Blocks’ the same size of the average footprint of the single family residence. The building itself spans up 4-stories and facade stretches up even further. This is to connect the two different hieghts of the multi-family unit across the street with the hieghts of the single family residence.

DESTINATION TRANSIT

Masters of Architecture Thesis Professor Rafael Longoria - University of Houston Fall 2018

A GATHERING PLACE IN DEEP ELLUM Project:

TRANSIT HUB PROGRAM BREAK-OUT

Thesis Statement:

Transit Stations

Location:

Dallas, TX

Program:

A series of light rail stations adding to the already established light rail system in Dallas, TX.

Problem:

Why in a city with an already established light rail system do people still choose to not use the public transportation?

Solution:

To add more rail stations along the line to make it easier for pedestrians to reach. Establishing a low-impact program element of making stalls available for people to rent to sell their goods. In addition; an element of performance that is unique to the neighborhood. These stations shall be formally similar, but still have their own uniqueness that will bring people to the stations from the outside.

SHARED SERVICES

The need for a reliable public transportation system is something that we as Americans and Texans should be striving towards. As we become a more sustainable / green society, using affordable and reliable public transportation is a must. It will cut down on the carbon dioxide emissions and prove to be less dangerous than driving a car regularly. For the use of a public transportation system to be adequate and convenient, we must add light rail stations. These stations are like their larger cousins, but they serve a much smaller number of people. I propose to build a number of smaller, light rail stations in the already developed public transportation infrastructure in and around Dallas, TX. These light rail stations will serve commuters of all walks of life. On-duty metro workers shall be a presence for lone-travelers to feel more at ease. They will serve the route as a node with a safety component, performance and commerce feature. Shops from chain and local vendors shall be entwined into the program of a transit stop. Each of these Light Rail Stations shall be approximately 1500 SF. The size may vary according to the amount of lines / traffic, the identity of the stations performance feature and how many different vendors express interest in renting space in each stop.

STRIPPED Water is important for human survival and almost as important to the city of Houston. Houston is known as the “Bayou City” is filled with more than 200 miles of bayou. Water and the behaviors of water and how it affects objects it comes in contact with is an important piece of this project. The water feature is the main organizing element, all buildings and program elements are designed to come in contact with the water in one way or another. The stream that feeds into the bayou is a visual representation of water erosion process. The buildings are erected from the property line and the shared courtyard has been “cut” through the middle by the water feature. The water feature also acts as microclimate conditioning, spraying a cooling mist along the courtyard area. One enters the site through the shared courtyard and is confronted by the water elements and pools. The offices have a private entrance to their building to keep business and pleasure separate. The main gallery space entrance is in the shared courtyard and a precession occurs within the walls of the winding path. Offices located on the second floor are adjacent to the refugee area and refugee storage areas. This is so the offices can be used as sleeping quarters in the case of a disaster event and overflow may be moved to the other open program spaces. The Auditorium overlooks the bayou with large windows so the patron is able to have a sense of outside space. The wading/relaxation pool is located towards the main entrance of the complex. Tables and chairs are strewn about both inside and outside of the main walls for a very laid back feeling. Finally, the lap pool is located in a secluded corner.
