Rose Care Calendar The essential steps of rose care throughout the year, ensure you get the best from your blooms and that your roses continue to bring joy for years to come.
October & November
May
In October, plan your rose garden for next year, and in November, put those plans into action by planting bare root roses.
Ensure your roses receive a full watering can twice a week. Water deeply around the base to encourage strong root growth.
December
June & July
In December, let the birds enjoy the rose hips, as they provide crucial food for wildlife through the cold winter months.
Deadhead roses regularly to encourage repeat flowering, and water deeply with a full watering can twice a week to keep them thriving.
January & February
August & September
In January and February, prune roses to remove dead wood and shape them for better air circulation and healthy growth.
Deadhead repeat-flowering roses after the second flush to encourage blooms; leave hip-producing roses then to set colourful hips.
March & April In March, feed roses with controlled-release granular fertiliser. In April, mulch around them to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
