Sportsfishing Club of The British Isles Newsletter Quarter one, 2022 Welcome to our rst newsletter since the advent of Covid which, although it did not stop our shing, it did restrict our access to some of the places we wanted to sh. With countries now opening up this is now changing so we are looking forward to recording your adventures be they inside the UK or beyond our shores in our newsletters going forward.
Chairman’s Strike Many of you have been SCBI members long enough to remember when the club produced a glorious, glossy yearbook detailing some of the exploits during the year as well as reminiscences from the past. Sadly, the cost of produc on increased to the level that made it impossible to con nue in a cost-e ec ve manner. Although many of you are keen users of the club’s Facebook page and others visit the SCBI website, social media seems somewhat transitory and lacks the archival element that the yearbook provided. With that in mind, the commi ee has digi sed all the earlier yearbooks (many thanks to our Vice-president, Charles Reaves) and we are currently modifying the club website to make them all available via the member’s-only page. Whilst the screen is not the same as hard copy, it nevertheless means that new members will be able to access those interes ng older items without having to track down the increasingly rare originals. In addi on, following comments at the recent AGM regarding member communica on, we have ini ated a new newsle er, of which this is the rst edi on. As we gain in experience, we hope to consolidate a house style and generate a professional-looking, on-line magazine containing reports, ps, reminiscences, whatever you, the membership, would value. At present, we intend to issue this quarterly for the coming year and then review its success. We all like to hear about good sh being caught but, in addi on, why not describe a venue that you visit whether at home or abroad, what went well and what to watch out for. Don’t be shy and don’t worry about your composi onal prowess or punctua on – this is not a school test! We will happily cross the t’s and dot the i’s as necessary; any pictures will also be welcome. Some items of possible long-term value may also be added directly to the website to save searching in years to come. Also at the AGM, the club combined the roles of treasurer and membership secretary to streamline procedures. I hope you have found the adop on of membermojo straigh orward as a means of renewing membership. It does mean we will drop Paypal but the new system is cheaper and easier for the club to administer and should make recruitment for new members e cient. Thanks to Chris Adams for this.

As I write this, I should have been shing out from Li lehampton with a few non-SCBI shing friends. However, 28kn winds gus ng 37kn means that wasn’t going to happen. I enjoy those days though; we don’t go out far, we don’t go if it is rough, and we don’t use complex rigs, but we do catch a few sh,
