Students enjoying this year’s Panther Prowl football game.

A message from the president Fall is “go time” on a university campus, and we love it. For the fourth year in a row, we welcomed one of the largest residential populations in university history on our W.A. Lettinga Grand Rapids Campus. All the regional campuses held welcome events for their students as well. No matter how you’re connecting with Davenport University, you can feel the excitement. Our theme for our faculty/staff kickoff event was “ignite,” and we’re taking it seriously. Another year of sparking student interest and success is fully underway. Our strategic guide for channeling this energy is Vision 2030. The world continues to change and make new demands of higher education, but our focus on student transformation, achievement and career success remains constant. We adapt, innovate and lead while keeping our eye on what has made Davenport a great community and workforce partner: our students and the needs of employers.

Our students are learning how to use AI within ethical guardrails. They need the foundational knowledge to recognize inaccurate or fabricated outputs, the skills to use AI to solve real workplace problems and the critical thinking to know when their own judgment should take precedence over the algorithm. At Davenport, we refer to power skills: critical thinking, collaboration, ethical reasoning, adaptability and judgment. These skills build trust and allow teams to perform at high levels.

You know what else matters to students? Having some fun, playing and watching sports and being a Panther. This fall, we welcomed our first women’s flag football team. You can read about them, as well as our men’s hockey team in the athletics section. Having fun matters to all of us. So play hard and work hard. Thank you to our donors for the impact they made on our students this past year and to our alumni for staying connected to Davenport University. There’s a lot happening here, and I’m excited about where we’re headed.

Sincerely,

Anthony Anderson Interim President

DU Review

We are also rethinking some basics in how we teach and measure competence. You can read about our two new business degrees in this issue. We have the first 90-credit business degree in the state, and it is one of the first 90-credit degrees of any kind in Michigan. We didn’t simply cut credits and sacrifice quality; we designed our Bachelor of Applied Science in applied marketing from the ground up so students

can complete it in three years. We also introduced a one-year MBA with a flat fee of $15,000. Both programs save students time and money. That’s innovation that matters to our students.

Our strategic vision calls for us to innovate, and I see that leadership taking shape in exciting ways. One is with artificial intelligence. We are using AI to improve our business processes, and just as importantly, we are integrating it throughout our academic programs. We know that AI is not making formal education less important. It’s making it essential for those who want to be competitive in the marketplace.

Anthony W. Anderson took over as interim president of Davenport University July 1, 2026. He had served as chief financial officer since April 2023, giving him a solid foundation to lead the university as it moves forward with its five-year strategic plan, Vision 2030. The Buffalo native brings his own style to the office that includes a commitment to transparency and collaboration, and as DU Review’s Mary Eilleen Lyon found out, it also may include pushing some of his favorites: hot sauce, karaoke and board games. Editor’s note: some answers have been edited for length or clarity.

Lyon:

Anderson:

The trustees have given you an opportunity, so how are you approaching this interim appointment?

I worked full time, and there were definitely times it was challenging. I think it’s important to have empathy and connect with students when they tell you, “Look, this is hard. Can you work with me on this?” They’re going to be grateful for the opportunity, and they’re going to remember you cared. It’s a big part of our students’ experience and the story they’ll tell about Davenport.

Anderson: We have a great board, and the trustees have known me as the chief financial officer, driving results on the financial and operations side. I now have the opportunity to work beyond that and build relationships with outside partners, telling Davenport’s story. Let’s talk about Davenport’s story. It’s an interesting one. As you go out, what’s the most important thing you could tell somebody about where Davenport is today? Anderson: Davenport is different from most institutions in Michigan because our focus is on aligning our programs to the workforce needs. We only have career-ready programs here. We’re not catering to a specific type of student; we’re catering to all kinds of students, with the purpose that those students graduate, get jobs, have great careers and partner with Davenport along the way. Lyon: Davenport has an incredible student body that faculty and staff rally around. Anderson: More than half of our students are first-generation college students. They often don’t have someone at home who can tell them how to manage the complexities. We have wraparound services to guide them through, to mentor them through the Davenport experience. That separates us from many other institutions. Also, more than a third of our students are students of color, so we have a great mix in our student body that provides for a diverse, rich culture here. I understand you worked your way through school, as a lot of people do and so many Davenport students do. How do you relate to them?

Anderson: Like most of us in higher education, I’ve been thinking and writing about AI. My latest article makes the point that the use of AI, the prevalence of it, makes education more important, not less. Our programs are being modified to make sure that we’re teaching AI in every program. Each one has to include how AI is impacting that program, whether it’s nursing, business, technology, education or arts and sciences. Even more importantly, we’re making sure our students have the human skills along with the ethical training they need for the work they’ll do and the challenges they’ll face when they graduate. Education develops foundational knowledge and the critical thinking and judgment that allow people to use AI well. Lyon: This is a challenging time for higher education. What are you seeing and what is Davenport facing? Anderson: We’re all aware of the shifts in demographics. This is where Davenport’s long history of serving all types of students comes into play. We’re well prepared to serve the traditional high school graduate, modern student and the adult learner. Where we have focused, education in general is heading — the opportunity to get upskilled, to start a career and continue your education into adulthood. Davenport is agile and well positioned to serve students who are part-time, full-time, whatever it takes. That is really going to separate Davenport from other institutions as we head into the next decade of higher education.

DU Review

Lyon:

Davenport has a strategic plan, Vision 2030, that addresses the impact of artificial intelligence. How is the university approaching AI integration into its programs?

Lyon: The faculty and staff here have known you as the chief financial officer, and now you have an opportunity to dig in with them as the president. How would you describe the Davenport community? Anderson: We have an absolutely incredible team here dedicated to Davenport, its rich, long history and its students. They believe in the mission, they believe in our students, and they believe in how we enrich society and what we put into our communities. So the cool thing for me is that I get to go from being the CFO business-minded person, to being someone able to engage more fully with them to find out where our opportunities are to change, to be different, to be better. Being able to connect with people at a different level like that is really special to me. Hopefully it’s special for them. To me, it’s less about the numbers and more about how can Davenport move forward, how can we do it together and how can I help. And so far, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how motivated people are to support me, to support Davenport and to support our momentum moving forward and achieving Vision 2030.

Lyon:

Tell us about your singing and dancing career. Anderson: I wouldn’t call it a career. Some members of my family were musical and in bands, so I was around music a lot. When I got to high school, and a teacher told me I had a good voice, I was all in. I joined all the musical theater activities; I’ve been in bands and singing and dancing groups. I’m not going to label it a “boy band,” but we did cover boy band songs. I still do karaoke whenever the opportunity arises. Lyon: And what’s the deal with you and hot sauces? Anderson: There’s no deal; I just like spicy food. I started to have some fun with it. We would do hot sauce games. We rolled dice and decided which hot sauce someone had to take on a piece of chicken; some were really mild and some were extremely hot. It just became a fun thing. People started buying me hot sauces. I would try new hot sauces. So now I’m the hot sauce guy. Lyon:

What made you want to pursue the presidency?

We’ve covered a lot of subjects. What is the most important thing that you would like people to know about you?

Anderson:

Anderson:

I felt like I was ready, that I was being called to that position to serve the university. I knew where we were going. I knew our vision. I was part of developing the vision, and I wanted to continue our momentum.

That I’m approachable and that I care about our students, faculty and staff. I hope I come off as someone you can brainstorm with and someone who wants to hear your opinions and ideas. When we move forward in any direction, we should be aligned strategically, because that’s the way we’re going to achieve our goals. I am very collaborative, and I’m also very transparent. I want to walk into every room and believe that I’m not the smartest person there. So how do I learn from their intelligence so that I can be better? I want to work with people.

Lyon: The presidency often involves the family. Tell us about yours. Anderson: My wife, Lauren, was born and raised in the Muskegon area. We have two young boys, Connor (8) and Cameron (4), and we’ve built a nice life here in Michigan that we’re absolutely obsessed with right now. The boys think Pounce is my boss! They love going to football games, so they think my job is running around with Pounce and talking to people. They have such a positive experience, and they’ve become Panthers. Lyon: Speaking of fun, I hear you like board games. What games do you like? Anderson:

DU Review

Lyon:

Any game where you can have six, eight, ten people around a table laughing, where the whole point is to be silly and have fun and to laugh. I don’t mind losing; I don’t mind winning. I just like laughing. So anytime you can get around a table and laugh, it’s my favorite thing to do. And board games seem to deliver that. It’s my ideal Saturday.

Davenport University innovates: Launches two path-breaking business degrees Story by Mary Eilleen Lyon Davenport University introduced two innovative business degrees this fall, giving students more affordable and flexible options to earn a college degree in less time without compromising academic quality. The university’s new 90-credit Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Applied Marketing, the first of its kind in Michigan, and the one-year Master of Business Administration (MBA) are both designed to help people complete the degrees more efficiently while preparing them for career opportunities and advancement.

DU Review

The design of both programs reflects Davenport’s ongoing commitment to innovation that benefits students. They improve access to higher education by reducing the time and cost required to earn a degree while maintaining the university’s career-focused approach and student-first mission. “Innovation isn’t about changing for the sake of change,” said Laura Kyriakopoulos, department chair in the Donald W. Maine College of Business. “It’s about removing barriers, recognizing prior learning and experience, and creating pathways that help students reach their educational and career goals more efficiently without compromising quality.” Kyriakopoulos said the new degree in applied marketing expands the university’s ability to serve adult learners,

working professionals, career changers and those bringing prior education, technical training or professional experience. “I think it demonstrates that Davenport listens,” Kyriakopoulos said. “We pay attention to how students learn, how industries evolve and what students and employers are asking for. Rather than assuming, we’re willing to rethink traditional models and create programs that better align with today’s workforce and today’s students.” Unlike a traditional 120-credit bachelor’s degree, the BAS requires 90 credits and incorporates stackable credentials that recognize students’ progress throughout the program. The BAS is intentionally designed as a streamlined pathway that builds on students’ previous education, technical training or professional experience while increasing the concentration of marketing coursework throughout the degree. Students earn a certificate in applied marketing after completing their first sequence of courses, an associate degree in applied marketing after the second and the bachelor’s degree after completing the 90-credit program. “These milestones recognize student achievement along the way and provide tangible credentials students can include on their résumés, discuss with employers and use as they pursue promotions or new career opportunities while simultaneously continuing their education,” Kyriakopoulos added.

“The ideal student is an ambitious, disciplined professional or a determined recent graduate who wants to maximize their return on investment (ROI),” said Davis. “They are career-driven individuals who can handle an accelerated schedule and are looking to quickly transition into leadership, management or executive roles.”

Davenport’s new one-year MBA addresses many of the same challenges for graduate students by offering an accelerated pathway with a predictable flat tuition rate of $15,000. The program has no additional fees or textbook costs.

Davis said Davenport’s program addresses the largest challenges facing prospective graduate students.

Designed for ambitious professionals and recent graduates, the program allows students to complete an MBA in one year while balancing work, family and other responsibilities using flexible learning options. “Launching this one-year MBA pathway shows that Davenport University has empathy for today’s working professionals and has a bold willingness to challenge the status quo,” said Misty Davis, associate dean of the College of Business and College of Technology. “It solidifies Davenport’s reputation as an institution that doesn’t just talk about student success, but one that actively innovates to provide students more affordable ways to achieve it.”

“The level of excitement for this program is incredibly high because it removes the two biggest barriers to graduate education: time and cost,” she said. “Students are given an opportunity to earn a top-tier leadership credential affordably and quickly.” Maintaining academic quality was a priority as the program was developed. “Speed does not mean cutting corners; it means that we’ve optimized structure,” Davis said. “Davenport maintains its high academic standards by utilizing the exact same career-focused curriculum and expert faculty that define its traditional, highly respected MBA experience. The quality remains uncompromised, giving students the exact same rigor in half the time.” Students can learn more about the new programs and apply online at davenport.edu.

the Davenport community.

The group is comprised of a dedicated team of Panthers

committed to representing the student body and creating a meaningful avenue for students to be heard, involved and represented in conversations that affect their university

experience. It also strives to build a campus culture that

embraces diversity and supports academic achievement. Margaret Paige, outreach coordinator for Student Life, is the

group’s advisor. “I enjoy overseeing Student Government because

its members are dedicated to serving their classmates and

creating an environment where students feel included, supported and comfortable voicing their thoughts and opinions,” said Paige.

“It gives students a platform to advocate for themselves and their

peers, collaborate with university leadership and build something that can have a lasting impact on campus.”

One recent initiative being explored is expanding transportation services on and off campus. They hope to make transportation

more accessible and convenient for students, including

improving connections between campus and key locations

near the W.A. Lettinga Grand Rapids Campus. The group feels strongly that transportation can significantly affect students’

ability to attend classes, participate in campus activities and DU Review

access employment opportunities.

Becoming involved in Student Government offers numerous benefits. It gives students the opportunity to turn their ideas

and concerns into action while gaining valuable leadership,

communication and collaboration experience. It also helps them

something that has the ability to create meaningful change,”

said Johnson. “I wanted the opportunity to represent Davenport students, share their voices and contribute to making a positive

difference on campus.”

Johnson credits his involvement in Student Government with

helping him grow as a leader and building meaningful connections with others on campus. “It has been a positive experience because

it has helped me develop valuable communication, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills.”

His involvement has also given him the opportunity to advocate for change and help create an environment where students

feel supported, connected and represented. “I believe students

have valuable ideas and perspectives, and Student Government

provides an opportunity to help ensure those voices are heard,” he said.

Like Johnson, Student Government vice president Avyana

Douglas was looking for ways to become involved in campus life at Davenport, and joining Student Government accomplished

that goal. “When I came to Davenport, I knew that I didn’t want

to just come to class, go home and graduate,” she said. “I wanted to be a part of the Davenport community and make an impact

while I was here.”

Douglas said the college experience can be so much more

than attending classes. “You can get your degree and leave, but by getting involved, you’re not just attending college; you’re becoming part of the Davenport community.”

The management major said she has met so many different

people through her involvement with Student Government that

she most likely wouldn’t have crossed paths with otherwise. “I’ve

been fortunate to meet and network with students, faculty, staff,

alumni and other leaders, and every connection has taught me something different. Some of those connections have turned

into friendships, professional relationships and networking

opportunities. I’ve met people from different backgrounds,

discovered new opportunities, and developed skills that I know

I’ll use beyond college.”

Story by Leslie Kinnee Davenport University is giving fans a whole new reason to cheer with the addition of women’s flag football to its athletic offerings. The inaugural season begins in 2027, with games set to kick off in February. The National Collegiate Athletic Association recognized flag football as an emerging sport at the 2026 NCAA Convention, and in June, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference became the first Midwest-based NCAA Division II conference to officially sponsor women's flag football. These announcements paved the way for women’s flag football to be adopted at collegiate athletic programs across Michigan, including at Davenport.

It’s a sport that has been going strong in many parts of the country for years and is surging in popularity in many Midwest states, like Michigan. Participation jumped in Michigan high schools from four pilot teams in 2023 to 80 teams across 15 leagues. The National Football League's backing and the sport’s debut at the 2028 Summer Olympics are fueling that interest. The first championship game is expected to occur in spring 2028, with Purdue University Northwest, University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Saginaw Valley State University, affiliate member Lewis University and Davenport vying for the title. “Ryan brings more than a decade of extensive collegiate Head coach Ryan Adamovich will lead the Panthers.

DU Review

“I am excited to announce the launch of women’s flag football at Davenport University,” said Paul Lowden, Davenport’s executive director of Intercollegiate Athletics. “As one of the fastest-growing sports at the youth, high school, and collegiate levels, women’s flag football is a natural addition to our athletic offerings. We are proud to create new opportunities for female student-athletes to pursue their passion for flag football and create an environment for them to compete, grow, and succeed both on the field and in the classroom.”

For those unfamiliar with flag football, it’s a thrilling, edge-ofyour-seat game. It has the same type of intensity as regular football, but it’s a 7-on-7 sport played on a 40-yard-by-80-yard field with 10-yard end zones. Games are divided into four 15-minute fast-paced quarters.

coaching experience and program-building experience that will be a tremendous asset in developing our women's flag football program,” said Lowden. “With women's flag football rapidly emerging as one of the fastest-growing sports, it was essential to find someone who not only understands the game but also has a strong grasp of the evolving landscape and opportunities within this sport.” Adamovich said what impressed him most about Davenport was the university’s commitment to athletics and to making women’s flag football a success. “When I interviewed, Davenport had all of their ducks in a row,” he said. “They had a plan in place, and I was able to hit the ground running.” For Adamovich, what he has before him is a blank slate to create a team and a program from the beginning, and he knows not many coaches get that kind of opportunity. “I’m a playerdriven coach, and we will have a player-driven program. It won’t just be my vision,” he said. “It will also be the players’ vision. We get to turn the program into what we want, and it will be uniquely ours.”

Davenport | 13

Recruiting is one aspect of the job that Adamovich enjoys, especially building a team from the ground up. He will ultimately

have room for 25 players on his team, of whom 18 are already locked in. According to Adamovich, flag football is one of the most transferable sports, meaning anyone with an athletic background can play. “You don’t necessarily need playing experience. If someone has athleticism and can pick up the game quickly, there just might be a place for them on our roster,” he said. He would like nothing more than for his team to be successful, but he also wants them to have fun while doing it. “Part of that is having our players guide the team just as much as I do. I’ll be looking to them to tell me what’s working and what’s not,” he said. Adamovich said he plans to focus on technique and the mental aspect of the game, but also stressed that he will place great emphasis on academics, and that it needs to be the number one priority. “I'm excited to join Davenport University and help build the Panthers flag football program,” said Adamovich. “It will be fun to create something special that supports our student-athletes both on and off the field.”

Samantha Meyer Hometown: Chilton, Wisconsin Major: Health and Human Services: Case Management Favorite position: Rusher or linebacker Most looking forward to: Developing on and off the field Samantha Meyer transferred to Davenport from Bryant and Stratton College in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. She begins her Davenport journey as a junior in the Health and Human Services: Case Management program and looks forward to playing flag football for the Panthers. While Davenport’s career-focused majors and the chance to play flag football initially drew her to campus, she is ready for all the new experiences that college life will bring. “In addition to competing in flag football and earning my degree, I’m looking forward to meeting new people, making new friends and joining in on different campus activities,” she said. Meyer is not new to football. She played tackle football in middle and high school and played flag football for two years at Bryant and Stratton College, where she also competed in wrestling. While she appreciates the physicality of the game, she loves the social aspect most. “Flag football has allowed me to create lifelong friendships and memories with my teammates, and I don’t take that for granted,” she said.

DU Review

While football is a traditionally male-dominated sport, Meyer said the evolution of flag football has provided women the opportunity to participate and excel. “Being a part of the first flag football team at DU is exciting, not just for me, but for the team and the university because it gives women another avenue to further their education and play collegiate sports,” she said. Meyer asks one thing of faculty, staff and students, and that’s for them to come to a game. “I’d love it if the stands were full with people cheering us on,” she said.

Favorite position: Middle linebacker Most looking forward to: Making connections with people from different backgrounds Freshman Deishalee Pena Trinidad, originally from Fajardo, Puerto Rico, knew she would commit to play flag football at Davenport the minute she stepped foot on campus. “When I first visited Davenport, I really liked the atmosphere and the overall feeling of the campus,” she said. “I could genuinely picture myself there. It was one of those situations where, when you know, you know.” Trinidad has been playing flag football since the sixth grade, and her knowledge and love of the game have grown as much as the sport’s popularity. “When I started playing, I thought it would be a hobby, but it ended up becoming something I genuinely fell in love with,” she said. Over the years, flag football has given Trinidad more than she ever expected. In addition to a platform from which to compete, it has given her unforgettable experiences, lasting friendships and precious memories. “Flag football has become such a meaningful part of my life. It’s crazy to look back at sixth grade me and realize that simply trying something new would eventually lead me here,” she said. In terms of the sport exploding across the United States, Trinidad isn’t surprised at all. “I love that people are finally starting to realize how fun and competitive it is,” she said. “I also love that more people are realizing that football isn’t just a sport for men. Women can play too, and we can compete, have fun, and bring just as much energy and passion to the game.”

It’s competitive, exciting, and just genuinely fun,” she said. Being one of the first players on the new sport’s roster at Davenport is an honor she doesn’t take lightly. “We are the building blocks

What’s more, Trinidad said she loves the community that surrounds flag football, noting the excitement and joy that comes from

of this new program, and we have an opportunity to create something that future Davenport athletes can be proud to be involved in,” she said. While practice has just begun and the first game is months away, she’s more than ready to take the field. “We want that same kind of excitement and hype that you see at football games: the crowd, the energy and everyone coming together to support their team. We want to feel that at our games too,” she said.

Panthers looking to take the next step in 2026-27 Story by Ryan Thompson

Davenport’s DI men’s ice hockey team is preparing to enter the new season with an experienced roster and hopes of returning to the national tournament. The Panthers added 12 newcomers last season, making 2025-26 a year of development. With much of that experience returning, head coach Jeremy Bultema has raised the expectations entering the new campaign.

That returning group has already impressed Bultema with its offseason work ethic. “They put in the work, and you can see it in how they're carrying themselves heading into this year,” Bultema said.

DU Review

“We're not looking to just tread water; we're looking to take a real step forward,” Bultema said. “Last year was a building year in a lot of ways, with a big group of new faces learning the league on the fly. This year is different. We return more experience than we've had in years, and that experience has to translate into results.”

Changing the conversation: How Davenport alumna Vonnie Woodrick is shifting the paradigm of mental health advocacy

Davenport | 15

Story by Whitney Rivest

DU Review

Words matter. For Davenport University alumna Vonnie Woodrick, ’84, this simple truth has become her life's calling. Woodrick, who is a dedicated member of the Alumni Board of Directors at DU, has spent years advocating for mental health awareness. Her deeply personal mission was born from tragedy. Her goal is to change the language around how people talk about and deal with mental illness, depression and despair. When Woodrick graduated from Davenport with her associate degree, she never envisioned herself becoming a national advocate. But in 2003, her husband, Rob, died of depression. Navigating her own profound grief while raising three young children, Woodrick frequently encountered painful, clinical or highly stigmatized language surrounding her husband's passing.

The standard phrasing “committed suicide” carried a heavy, historically criminal connotation that didn't reflect the reality of his struggle. “Somebody said to me, ‘Mental illness is an illness just like any other. Can’t that be terminal?ʼ” Woodrick said. “That stuck with me for so long.” Determined to change the narrative, Woodrick founded i understand, a nonprofit organization created to support those affected by mental illness and suicide. Her primary objective is

Giving & Alumni

to treat the brain like any other organ in the body. Today, when she speaks of Rob, she says simply and honestly, “He died of depression.”

The Blue Envelope Program is a standardized crisis response protocol designed to support students experiencing behavioral health issues or expressing thoughts of suicide. For Woodrick, seeing her alma mater championing the cause she has dedicated her life to is incredibly moving. “Sometimes I just feel so humbled,” Woodrick said. “To have that respect for somebody's mental health and that backup is huge. I applaud Davenport for being on the upper curve of bringing these resources to campus.” To expand this vital conversation, Woodrick celebrated the 23rd anniversary edition and republication of her children's book, Marshmallow Clouds, in September. Remarkably, Woodrick had actually written the book before Rob passed away. At the time, she penned the story about her young son, Chase, falling asleep in the yard and dreaming that he and his father had climbed a ladder to play together up in the clouds. Following Rob's tragic passing, the book took on a profound new significance, serving as a gentle, comforting tool for families to talk about love, loss and the people we carry with us.

Through her work with the nonprofit, Woodrick continues to foster powerful connections. Among them is her relationship with national ABC meteorologist Ginger Zee, who serves on the i understand honorary board. Zee and Woodrick share a striking, parallel history: on November 4, 2003, Zee walked out of Corewell Health in Grand Rapids following a suicide attempt; on November 8, Woodrick walked into that same hospital where her husband passed away. Years later, their shared stories cemented a lifelong bond of advocacy.

Davenport | 16

Even though we recognized World Mental Health Day on October 10, Davenport's campus culture remains deeply focused on its students’ holistic well-being every day of the year. With guidance from supporters like Woodrick, Davenport became one of the first universities to implement the Blue Envelope Program in partnership with Corewell Health.

The updated anniversary edition honors that original story while introducing new family activities and conversation prompts designed to encourage early discussions around remembrance, healing and hope. The republication was celebrated with a special appreciation gathering and book signing in September, bringing together supporters, volunteers and family to honor Rob's legacy and the ongoing mission of i understand.

Through her books, support groups and work on Davenport's Alumni Board, Woodrick continues to teach others that talking saves lives. Today, her three children are successfully navigating their own mental health journeys, raised in a household where vulnerability is encouraged. As Davenport continues to expand its mental health resources, Woodrick's presence on the Alumni Board serves as a constant reminder of the power of empathy, education and open dialogue. “Everyone has a story and needs to have a voice,” Woodrick said. “If my story and my voice can support anybody in the Davenport community, I feel so honored.”

Job Title Chief Financial Officer, S.R. Construction Services

Work Passion I love that there’s always something new to learn, and no two days are the same. My role allows me to continually grow while leading and supporting my team through both the successes and challenges we face each day.

Davenport | 17

Davenport Highlight I appreciated the relationships I built, the opportunities I was given, and the ability to make a positive impact on the campus community. Living on campus and my experiences at Davenport helped prepare me for my career by developing both my leadership skills and my confidence. My involvement in campus ministry also played a significant role in strengthening my faith and shaping the person and leader I strive to be today.

Key Mentor/Decision One of the biggest influences on my career has been Ryan Seddon, the owner of S.R. Construction Services. Although we had only met briefly before he reached out to me about joining the company, he saw leadership potential in me that I hadn’t fully seen in myself. Since then, he has consistently invested in my growth by mentoring me, trusting me with increasing responsibility, and offering guidance both professionally and personally.

Work Passion I love working with a team that is collaborative, supportive and always willing to tackle new challenges. Perrigo’s diverse culture brings a wide range of perspectives to the table, helping us challenge existing processes, drive innovation and make meaningful improvements every day. I also enjoy the balance that SEC reporting provides. The quarterly reporting cycle creates a consistent rhythm, while the periods between filings offer opportunities to work on ad hoc projects, process improvements and new initiatives that keep the role engaging and rewarding.

Davenport Highlight Davenport | 18

One of the greatest benefits of my Davenport experience has been the lasting relationships I formed. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to reconnect with classmates, professors, and university leaders in meaningful ways that have shaped my career and kept me connected to the Davenport community. Those relationships led me back to the classroom as an adjunct instructor, created opportunities to participate in special events, and inspired me to help establish a scholarship fund for future students.

Key Mentor/Decision My parents have been the most influential mentors I've had the privilege of knowing. Throughout my life, they have offered unwavering support, thoughtful advice and encouragement as I've navigated both educational and career opportunities. Having their perspective and confidence in me has given me the foundation to pursue new challenges and achieve the success I enjoy today. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t thank Dr. Grant Lee and Dr. Greg Foster for their support and the many opportunities provided to give back to students at Davenport.

Job Title Chief Operating Officer, Sanford Behavioral Health

Work Passion I love building something I know is making a lasting impact on people's lives. Every day, I get to support teams who are working directly with patients and their families, walking alongside them through some of the hardest moments of their lives to instill hope and healing. Knowing I play a part in that keeps me grounded in why the work matters.

Davenport Highlight So many of my instructors had real careers in the fields they were teaching, not just theory from a textbook. They'd lived the work before they taught it. That real-world perspective shaped how I think and problem-solve to this day, and it gave me a foundation I still draw on in my career.

Davenport | 19

Key Mentor/Decision Honestly, there wasn't one defining moment or mentor. It was a series of challenging opportunities put in front of me, and choosing to say "yes" to each one. Not being afraid to fail, and accepting every challenge that came my way, is where my career growth has come from. Looking back, I think that willingness to step into the unknown taught me more than any single person or decision could have, and it's a mindset I still carry into every new challenge today.
