01 Artist Baugruppen This project is a mixed use residential building that incorporates an art gallery. This is one of three sites in Oberschรถneweide, a rather rough, industrial neighborhood on the outskirts of Eastern Berlin. The urban strategy was to create a perforated urban wall at the southwestern corner of the site. By building along the street edge, the integrity of the surrounding urban structure is maintained while utilizing the remaining green space for the community. Visitors meander through the art gallery, traversing these shifts until they are brought to a crescendo at the northwestern wing of the building. For the residents, there are circulation cores placed at both ends of the building, which lead to outdoor corridors that outline the back of the building. The circulation maximizes interaction between three groups of people: the residents, art gallery visitors, and members of the community. Partners: Esra Erdogen and Leah Karmaker

Modules
The apartment design derives from a module that incorporates a height shift, effectively dividing space but preserving lines of vision across the apartment. To create the art gallery, modules were subtracted from the building’s mass. This resulted in a single, extensive art gallery space that snakes through the building and expresses the apartments’ shift.

02 The Urban Ecotone The site is the former Maverick Mills located in East Boston. East Boston is a former industrial area and it houses the Logan airport. The majority of the population are immigrants from different cultures and the Maverick Mills site is integrated among three contrasting urban fabrics. There is a noticeable juxtaposition between the landscapes and the transportation lines. The blue line and the highways create urban walls that prevents gradients with the site. There are no gradients between the landscape and the infrastructure. The intention is to create an urban ecotone within the site that allows for fluid transitions among the urban block. An ecotone is the transition between two ecosystems. This term is usually associated with ecology; however, this project explores how the notion of ecotone is applied to the landscape, the program, and the site context.

03 Performing Arts Center The urban planning of the school is fashioned to be a public amenity to attract locals and students alike. The roof acts as a landscape that is occupiable to the public. It serves as an urban park that extends the existing parks. The performing arts school houses programs such as dance, theatre, and music. The performing arts school contains a semi-private auditorium that can be utilized for public use. The interior has spacious corridors that allow for flexible performance spaces. These areas are positioned to create various thresholds for views throughout the space. Circulation wraps around the triangular curtain wall that allows views throughout the floors. The concept is for the individual to be immersed around different performances.

04 Tectonics The watch tower is a platform framed wooden structure that displays the tectonic of wood. The wall is a rockite louver structure combined with a wooden cladding to create interesting patterns of light. The concrete is exposed to highlight the changing angles of each piece of concrete and maintain the raw quality of the material. With the incorporation of wood, there is an exploration of how its planarity and lightness can highlight the planes created by the concrete, and how it can become a porous screen for light. Also, these materials juxtapose against each other because the wood implies a sense of warmth, whereas the concrete is brutal.

05 The Bike Stop Located in densely populated cities, this chair consists of shifting modules that store bicycles-for-rent, while creating occupible spaces for pedestrians who are waiting for public transportation. As public bike systems are becoming more prominent in cities, there is a need to create a space that can adhere to the needs of individuals who are trying to circulate within the city. This chair also serves as a means to alleviate some of the problems of a typical bus stop such as lack of wheelchair accessibility and space. The design consists of identical modules slices that assemble into occupied spaces for pedestrians as well as bike riders. These slices resemble Lego blocks on which they can be assembled and dispersed.

06 Artwork Art is one of the embodiment of self-expression. I enjoy the process of creating different types of artwork and utilizing various mediums of material allow for different exploration and. These selected works are inspired by surrealism, steampunk, fashion, and patterns. I have created still-lifes, abstract paintings, and portraits. I utilize art mediums such as charcoal, ink, watercolor, oil paint and acrylic paint. This is a selection of some of my artwork.
