Arts Week 2025

Page 1

Welcome to Arts Week!

We are thrilled to share with you details of Dauntsey’s vibrant celebration of the arts - a week dedicated to the creativity, passion, and talent of our pupils. Arts Week is a special time at the end of our school year, where Music, Dance, and Drama take centre stage, and we shine a spotlight on the incredible work happening in our classrooms and beyond.

Throughout the week, you’ll experience a range of performances and showcases that reflect the energy, imagination, and hard work our pupils and staff have poured into their craft. From stirring musical pieces and dynamic dance performances to powerful theatrical moments, every event has been created to inspire, entertain, and bring our community together.

The arts play a vital role in education - encouraging self-expression, collaboration, and confidence. They challenge us to think deeply, feel openly, and see the world through different perspectives. This week is not just a celebration of talent, but of growth, courage, and creativity.

We look forward to you joining us. Whether you come along as a performer, a parent, a teacher, or a friend, your presence and support mean the world. Let’s make this Arts Week unforgettable!

Young & Free

Written and directed by Cory White, ‘Young & Free’ is a devised performance inspired by the creative style of Mike Leigh in a unique collaboration. Exploring who you are and what you want to do in life can only take up so much of your time, otherwise you never really live. When forced into socially accepted conventions do you follow or break the mould?

In ‘Young & Free’, we see this question arise through the guise of two sisters, and as ideas of freedom collide and conflicts erupt, will she conform to her sister’s traditional expectations or will she allow herself to be truly young and free? AntigoneDauntsey’s Drama Scholars present Sophocles’ classic Greek tragedy, Antigone. With themes such as individualism, hubris and moral duty, this classic tale, last of the Theban trilogy, asks questions of us all and is as relevant today as it was when it was written in 441BC.

The artistic vision for the piece sets the play in the final days of the Soviet Union, just before the fall of communism. After an internal conflict King Creon issues an official decree against his opponents. His niece, Antigone, outraged that his decree offends both divine and moral law, takes matters into her own hands with tragic consequences for all “ancient Greece”.

In the shadowy heart of Transylvania, a young English solicitor named Jonathan Harker arrives at a crumbling, ancient castle. He’s there on business, but what he finds is something far more sinister. His host, Count Dracula, is no ordinary nobleman. He’s a creature of the night, a vampire, eternal, cunning, and hungry.

Soon, Dracula sets his sights on England, bringing with him a reign of terror cloaked in charm. One by one, lives begin to unravel. Lucy Westenra, vibrant and innocent, is the first to fall under his spell. Her mysterious illness baffles doctors until one woman, Professor Van Helsing, reveals the unthinkable truth.

As Lucy succumbs and rises again as a vampire, her friends must make a terrible choice: destroy the one they loved to stop the darkness from spreading. But Dracula is not done. He turns his gaze to Mina, Jonathan’s beloved fiancée, drawing her into his web. He appears as a mysterious, seductive prince. Despite being engaged, Mina feels drawn to him, sensing a deep, inexplicable bond. Their relationship unfolds with emotional intensity and Mina is torn between loyalty to Jonathan and an overwhelming attraction to Dracula.

In a final desperate chase, the group tracks Dracula back to his homeland, determined to end the evil once and for all. But time is running out. Will they save Mina… or will Dracula’s curse live on?
