Victoria Orenze is without a doubt, one of the most anointed worshipers of our time. The Nigerian born; Canadian based songstress is most popularly known for her Holy Ghost filled ministrations. Her powerful spirit chants have led many to walk in the spirit of intercession. A worshipper who sings in both her understanding and in the spirit, the sound of her worship is a weapon of spiritual warfare.

Orenze has released a lot of powerful worship songs that have become global hits; On Fire, Draw, Hallelujah our God Reigns, and her most recent one featuring Nathaniel Bassey, Ascend, yet it is her live ministration at Highland Church from February of this year that holds a special place in my heart. Not a week passes without me listening to it, yet it never gets old. It leads you to deeper realms of worship and awakens the spirit of intercession in you. As she begins ministering by praying in powerful tongues and quoting Acts 10:38, you can feel the power of the Holy Ghost sweep across the room.

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power that He went about doing good, healing those that were sick and saving those that were oppressed.”

There is a deep reverence for God in the congregation at Highland Church. You can feel the genuine desire that each person must be filled with the Holy Spirit. Every time I play this live recording, which is often, I cannot resist the power of the Holy Spirit and I find myself stopping whatever it is I am doing and praying. Victoria Orenze ‘s ministrations have shown me that worship is not just the music we make that glorifies the Lord, it is our attitude of the heart, our reverence for Him, our acknowledgement that we cannot do without Him. Her worship precedes prayer, creating a conducive atmosphere for the Holy Ghost to move and work. She later introduces the congregation to her powerful spirit chant Eyaya, a sound of war that drives one to deeper realms of worship. Sometime back when I was still doing secular covers, I listened to Zakes Bantwini ‘s song Osama, a very spiritual secular song whose meanings were unknown. The song trended globally even in Scandinavian countries and when the South African artist was asked about the inspiration behind his song, he would always say “it’s the spirit”. His audience, despite the ambiguity of the song, understood its lyrics and many acknowledged that it had spiritual connotations which they expressed via the comment section. If people can understand that a secular artist is appeasing ancestral spirits by singing in an unknown tongue, how much more can the mysteries of heaven be communicated when we sing in the spirit?

Throughout her ministration, Victoria sings some of her songs that are Holy Spirit themed; We are Filled with the Holy Ghost, Holy Ghost you intoxicate me and I need to see You which create such an intimate environment for the infilling of the Holy Spirit. One thing is for sure, we cannot do this life on our own, we need to be filled with the Holy Ghost. We need Him who knows all things to help us.

One profound thing Victoria Orenze says during her ministration is that the Spirit is a location, it is a position. 1 Corinthians 3:16 says, “The Spirit of the living God lives in us.” It is the Spirit who teaches us all things, even how to pray. We cannot worship God without the promptings of the Holy Spirit or just with our own understanding. Without the Spirit, worship just becomes music, and the focus becomes about us and not God
