All thats happening at Sópers House. James and Isabelle were our first ever work experience placements here at Sópers House. They both had the opportunity to get a feel for what a normal working day at Sópers House would be, as well as gain some hands-on knowledge and skills to take away with them.
FRIDAY BAR NIBBLES How about some food that you can enjoy in the sun with your Friday afternoon bar drinks? We are offering spring rolls and vegetable samosas with sweet chilli sauce for £4 when bought with a drink, and fish and chips will be available from 12-3pm at £13pp (members receive 50% discount).
We hope our work experience placement helped both James and Isabelle understand where they see their future and we wish them all the best for their final year of exams. What is your go-to order on the Sópers menu? A latte with hazelnut and an omelette with all the trimmings with coleslaw and salad. What does a typical day in the life of Sópers look like to you? To come in, open the café, help put the tables out the front, check the deliveries and set the kitchen up for the day ahead. Whats your biggest accomplishment this month? Recognition of my hard work and being voted employee of the month, knowing my hard work in Sópers House didn’t go un-noticed. What is the biggest challenge you have faced this month? Making sure the kitchen is always spotless each day and always committing myself to working that little bit harder each day to make sure the café runs smoothly.
Where did you work before Sópers? Before Sópers House I worked as a Catering Assistant in the film industry. My last job, I was Tom Hardy’s food runner – getting to deliver food to the house he was staying in while filming Havoc, which was in Wales. How do you like to relax and unwind after your workday? I like to just get home, shower, make a coffee and watch a good Netflix film before bed ready for the next day. What app do you use the most on your phone? I use an app which is a game where you complete levels to add furniture and improve your living space with new items or the garden – or WhatsApp to keep in touch with people.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I never really wanted to be anything when I grew up, only to be happy in life and take each day as it came.
What’s the best place you have travelled to? Canada, its where my mum’s brothers are, I just wished I had stayed longer to see a bit more... but you never know what the future holds. What’s the most exciting part of your job? The most exciting part of my job is being able to get up in the morning and to be greeted by my work colleagues who are so friendly. Its the reason I come to work each day (apart from earning a wage that is).
What habit are you trying to get into (or get out of)? Well I would like to get out of a lot of habits, one to be a lot healthier, stop smoking and to eat more healthy.

Half term kid’s fitness at Sópers House
OUR 11–13 YEAR OLD’S enjoyed their time off school in Sópers Studios! They powered through 45 minutes of spinning, 45 minutes of boxing and 30 minutes of well needed stretching! If your child missed out this time around, don’t worry! We will be hosting these events regularly so keep your eyes peeled for the next date.

Another fantastic day at our Ladies Networking event. It started with an insightful and inspiring talk from guest speaker, Freya North, with the chance to purchase signed copies of her latest book, Little Wing. Following this, the ladies enjoyed a delicious buffet brunch with bubbles!

TENSION
HEADACHES Andrew Doody takes a brief look at tension headaches and how to relieve them. 80% of adults will experience tension headaches at some point. They are caused by tight muscles surrounding the neck, pressing on nerves that refer pain to another location, in this case, the head. Most often, tension headaches are triggered by lifestyle factors such as poor posture i.e. from sitting hunched over at a computer and/or stress. Almost all types of headache activate the same pain receptors so it can be difficult to know if your headache pain is a sign of something more serious. When experienced suddenly or regularly, you should always get your headache pain assessed by a health professional to rule out any serious health conditions. If you have been diagnosed with tension headaches alone, the good news is they respond well to treatment. Here are a few exercises to help relieve the pain they cause – scan the QR codes for a short instructional video.
