ULTRA EARLY BUSHFIRE DETECTION Wireless Environmental Sensor Networks

THE PROBLEM

THE SOLUTION

The escalating threat of bushfires in Australia is intensifying under the influence of climate change. As global temperatures rise, the conditions that fuel these natural disasters become more prevalent, leading to an increase in both frequency and severity.

Silvanet is an Ultra Early Bushfire detection system designed to detect fires in their smouldering stages. Solar powered, AI driven gas sensors are designed to “sniff” out fires within minutes of ignition. By improving response and detection times we can significantly reduce the disastrous economic, environmental, and human costs of rapidly rising bushfire related damages.

The trend is clear: bushfires are becoming more disastrous, and the window for effective action is narrowing with each passing season.

Aerial patrols, optical cameras, and satellite-based systems for detecting bushfires face several challenges: •

Time Delay: There can be a significant delay between the time a bushfire starts and when it is detected by satellites due to their orbital schedules.

•

Compromised View: Optical systems/aerial patrols are often hindered by cloud cover, smoke, or canopy cover, which can obscure the view of the ground.

•

Resolution Limitations: The spatial resolution of satellites may not be fine enough to detect small or low-intensity fires.

•

Cost and Accessibility: High-resolution satellites can be expensive, and their data may not always be readily accessible in real-time for immediate bushfire detection.
