FOREWORD Welcome to the third edition of our annual Ecosystem Guide, which provides an updated overview of the regional actors in the industry.

The Danish data center industry is a fast-growing sector in Denmark, which has spurred on a thriving ecosystem of high-quality suppliers. These include suppliers that assist data center operators in the initial financing, planning, designing and construction phase.

Suppliers delivering infrastructure and architecture products and services (power, cooling, cabling, connectivity) to assist with the setup of the data center.

And when the data center is fully operational, suppliers that assist data centers in running their data center from maintenance and cleaning services to legal and security services.

Apple and Google have bought big plots of land in Aabenraa. All together 416 hectares of land with reliable power supply and world-class data connections have been acquired by these two global companies.

Thus, Aabenraa may evolve into one of the preferred European hubs with big potential for the data centre industry. And here is why: ––

Reliable, green, power supply – Aabenraa Municipality is home to one of the biggest ‘power crossroads’ in Northern Europe. Fredericia College of Marine and Technical Engineering (in Danish: Fredericia Maskinmesterskole) trains operation and maintenance engineers within the Danish education maskinmester, a Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Students who choose the Data Centre Programme (DCP) will have completed a variety of subjects pertaining to the data centre industry as well as full mission simulator training (learning how to minimise human error and act correctly in a critical situation).

Furthermore, DCP students will obtain the Certified Data Centre Professional certificate (CDCP) in collaboration with EPI, an internationally acclaimed provider of certification courses for the data centre industry.

One of the main problems in the datacenter industry is lack of skilled workers. The business is struggling to hire the required technicians, as they are in short demand.

At Center for Advanced Technology, we are determined to be part of the solution for this problem. The Centre encompasses Mercantec’s curriculum of tech-oriented educations. It has been conceived to address the fact, that the technologies of the present and the future are not restricted to specific educations or job functions. They are present in everyday life and throughout organizations. Because of this, we experience a lot of synergy when one education has easy access to the entire pool of knowledge in every education in the Centre.

Mercantec offers: - Electricians: The new Danish electrician education is a highly flexible education, which offers a wide range of individually chosen courses on ISCED/EQF level 4 and 5. At Mercantec, we use this flexibility to design a “datacenter maintenance” electrician education. It is essential, that this is done in cooperation with the datacenter industry and relevant authorities. Any interested organization is therefore invited to join our advisory board for the “datacenter maintenance electrician”.

- Data technicians: This education is on ISCED/EQF level 5. The skillset of the data technician is ideally suited for the running of data centres. Some of the mandatory courses like “software defined networking” and “datacenter design” are of course oriented towards datacenters, while the more generic courses will be accentuated towards data centers for our datacenter students (e.g. exercises done on datacenter equipment and platforms). Again, interested parties is invited to join our advisory board for “datacenter datatechnicians”.
