Opening in 1997, the restaurant’s award winning architecture sits in complete harmony with its historic location. The East Point site was originally established to protect the Port of Darwin against attack, and in 1911 Pee Wee’s Camp was built where the restaurant stands today. Incorporating some of the original WWII mess structures into the building, and using materials and design that reflects the location and the lifestyle, it’s easy to see why Pee Wee’s has been recognized on the NT Heritage register as having significant heritage value.

Since current owners Simon and Lily Matthews took over in 2002, Pee Wee’s at the Point has strived to set the benchmark for quality dining in the Top End. The original bar – Rorke’s Drift, was built beneath the cinema. The tiered seating of the cinema above meant that not even one quarter of the large building was used for the Rorke’s Drift bar. New owners had the entire building gutted in November 2006 and embarked on a project that would change the building forever.

They began to remodel and re-style the interior to become a two story building – with a ground floor venue (Monsoons) double the size of the former Rorke’s Drift, with the entire building now two and a half times the size.
