Publisher’s Message
D
ear members of the ROR community,
As I reflect on the past year, I truly feel blessed for all the good in the world that still exists despite the bad that has been happening around us. Yes, there are tragic events around the world and sometimes in our own lives. What I ask, however, of all of us, is to find daily gratitude in the positive aspects and seek to enhance what we can control. If, in our day we all endeavor to find small ways to make someone’s life better; we can truly create moments of joy—for them and for us. A smile, a kind greeting or sincere compliment or some other gesture to create a human connection with a friend or stranger creates a ripple effect of hope. Everyone wants to have a nice day, but most are shy so we must take the initiative. As educators, you have the opportunity to have these interactions with both your colleagues, families and students more than others. In fact, your skill at imparting knowledge and creating daily hope is truly an art. Regardless of your discipline you have the unique ability to read the nuances of those in your life and take the steps to change lives for the better. This is why ROR Magazine has such an emphasis on art, as it is the fabric of human endeavor that creates such joy and hope to us and those around us. Next time you walk into your classroom or office consider it instead that it is your studio, a place where artistic creativity infuses all that you do. I feel that if you pursue your life with those optics, every day of your life will be enhanced. We at ROR Magazine are truly grateful for all of you who are part of our journey. Our ever expanding global readership, the dynamic contributors who bring you both an intellectual and artistic lens in which you can further expand your passions, and our advertisers who believe in our mission and our ability to further worldwide awareness of their services that help our readers. Our Summer Issue starts our second year of growth and inspiration for the educational community. Besides the incredible art, and illuminating and helpful essays, we will continue to bring you critical pieces on topics germane to your life and the world of education throughout the globe. I wish you and your families an awesome summer together…please stay safe and cherish each day. Yours in hope and gratitude,
Thomas Schenck
Editorial Too much has changed since the time our
last issue went online. It is hard to decide whether the Medieval times have chosen to visit us again, or whether we have fallen through a black hole of moral vacuum. There is certainly a big splotch of ink now where a lot of human rights used to sparkle in our skies. Decades of progress drowned in the whirlpool of politics and dictatorial mindsets. We put forth our current issue as a protest against this chaotic and oppressive climate where only a very limited demographic is allowed the full lung capacity to breathe life. In Gunning Down Our Children, Page 100, Lucia Meija traces the money behind the reckless killings of school going children and community members in general that plague American soil every week. You will find no other country on earth like this, where, even when the country is not actively in war, violence still finds common and innocent prey. Moving beyond US boundaries, we find how it is all too easy to sacrifice children in the name of politics, and how gun lobbying and dictatorial gunmanship both have the same results: destruction of the future generations. Mohammed Al-Talla from Palestine posits similar questions to the perpetrators of Zionist gun violence in West Bank in I Live Nightmares, Page 178. Of course, it’s not just children who are paying the price of our conflicts. In an unprecedented example of backward motion that has only been shown by Taliban before in recent decades, the US Supreme Court decided to play God. Decades of standing up and winning rights for the reproductive health of women were wiped in a slew of barbaric decisions.
The approach Dr. Barbara Harris takes to tackle this issue is self-evident in the title of her piece: Medical Situations Where Abortion Saves A Woman’s Life. Very matter-of-factly, Page 62, she lays down all the situations where an abortion is the only step that will prevent the death of a living, breathing adult who has every right to lead a full healthy life as anyone else. The ironic thing is that in many of these complications, not performing an abortion does not lead to the safety of the unborn child. It simply means that the woman could die along with a deformed or stillborn fetus. The conclusion of this piece is not just clear, it is logical logical: Banning abortions is equivalent to passing a death sentence to all pregnant persons who are facing unavoidable medical complications. At other places in this issue, Dr. Hinkley highlights the psychiatric healthcare issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community, posing his unique therapeautic center as one solution; Edgar Wulft spotlights the role of open-source intelligence and mapping in ground-zero coverage of the ongoing Russian war on Ukraine; while Shyam Bhardwa frames the old public versus private schooling debate in a conversation with school-teaching colleagues from Tokyo. Our interview this season is the lifelong educationist Rubina Feroz. Her insights take us through the depths of the imprints our teachers leave on our minds, and how reading may well be the single greatest determinant for lifelong ambitions. She believes healthy connections with family are the only hope for the future – not just the future generations but for how they tackle the world’s large-scale problems.
Christina Wang has returned with her third column as an international agent, educating us on how playing detective to the sometimes half-concealed and unexplored passions and ambitions of a student will lead to spectacular, real-world results. Pieces for our lifestyle sections too will appeal to both artistic and cultural sensibilities of our readers. Isabelle Rincon grabs our heart with the story of a mother trying to escape a nightmare marriage, Page 76. In a playful, speculative poem, Page 134, Isaac E. Payne describes a scenario where helpful AI at work fails after a power breakdown, calling to mind the recent internet outage that Canadians experienced for more than 24 hours in July. Seasoned performing artist, Lonnie Hughes, inspires us with his story of discovering a love of the line, Page 94; while Francesca Abbondanza from Italy brings us the taste of summer by sampling outthere flavors in Rome. Finally, Donna Illici introduces us to the world of cryptocurrency financing, ending our Summer Issue 2022 on a forward-facing note. She simplifies the terms and concepts of this new world, and restates the processes of digital financing in terms that both beginning investors and more seasoned players of traditional currency finance can assimilate, helping their transition to new approaches.
( Then, why do I feel like you are throwing me off a cliff? )
"Aren’t you excited about the future?"
This confluence of traditional and original, neglected and oft-repeated, and, refreshing and sobering hues and colors that we include on these pages are meant to be a statement: As the passing wheels of Time inevitably pull us through new worlds, we cannot afford to leave our innocent, sidelined, and continually trodden-over peoples behind. That would be a mistake.

NORMATIVE NORMA TREAT TREA TMENT BY DR. MIKE HINKLEY
There is an under-reported crisis in healthcare regarding Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and behavioral healthcare for the LGBTQ+ community. Statistically, more LGBTQ+ persons suffer from depression, anxiety, personality disorders and SUDs than the general public. Moreover, LGBTQ+ persons seek help at lower rates, interrupt their treatment at higher rates, relapse more and fall off their prescribed treatment regimen more than the general population. There are multiple reasons for this crisis. This article offers a few fundamental concerns. First, there is minimal research addressing the LGBTQ+ community’s use and access to healthcare and mental health services. This is especially the case when considering the specific LGBTQ+ sub-communities, such as gay women (lesbians),

There are various reasons a pregnancy might need to be terminated due to medical conditions. This may be due to the mother’s preexisting health conditions, or new conditions that develop during pregnancy as a result of changes in the body and hormonal levels. According to WHO, the rate of maternal mortality due to complications during pregnancy is still unacceptably high across the globe. The risk is particularly extreme for girls under the age of 15.

Most children may be smiling while having dreams in which they are playing, having adventures, or buying candies and dolls. They wake up with bright smiles on their faces, determined to make their dreams come true.
In Gaza, when a child wakes up in the middle of the night, all that can be heard are shrieks and cries. Their dreams are not the same as those of other children. It’s nightmares: bombing, running, and loss. They wake up tired, looking for their parents, afraid of losing them, and even asking if there is a war and where they are.
Moneer, my 11-year-old old younger brother, and Mahmoud, my 4-year-old nephmoud ew, are not exceptions. ew Their nights are filled with heartbreak and sorrow; heart they occasionally wake up with pale and tear-stained faces from nightmares of Israel’s war on Gaza. The Israeli war on Gaza may be in cessation, but its effects will last forever.

Ad Submission Guidelines
Paperback Copies available from Amazon!
We have our own ad-creation service which produces the best HD quality ads you see in the magazine. For those who will be submitting your own ads, kindly adhere to these guidelines:
Image Sources: Purchase and download high resolution photos from online stock photo sources and use them in your ad. Or, hire your own photographer for original, high-res photos. The ideal image resolution is at least 1500 pixels or higher for every photo that will cover at least 8.5 x 5.5 inch area on the magazine page. Images pulled from the internet will be of poor quality and could have hidden copyright infringements for which we won’t be liable. Avoid Blocks of Texts: If you are placing testimonials, announcements or any considerable text paragraphs in your ad, keep them small. Large blocks of texts go blurry when the image file is placed in our magazine. We have a total data limit for each issue, and we cannot place oversized files (more than 2000 pixels) in the mag to stay within our total cut-off point. Submit Larger Text Blocks as a Companion Essay: If you insist on hoving a large piece of text as part of your sponsorship package, feel free to submit it separately as a .docx file and we will include it as an introduction to your school/service. Submit additional photos to go with the piece, conforming to above guidelines, with accurately labelled titles. Include captions after the body of the text, clearly linked to titles of submitted photos.

PUBLISHER WILL TREAT ALL POSITION STIPULATIONS ON INSERTION ORDERS AS REQUESTS. 1. The liability of Publisher for any act, error, omission or other matter for which it may be held legally responsible shall not exceed the cost of the ad space affected by the error. In no event shall Publisher be liable for any indirect, consequential, special, or incidental damages, including, but not limited to, lost income or profits. The foregoing limitations shall apply to the greatest extent permitted by law and regardless of the theory under which liability is asserted. MISCELLANEOUS 1. Agency and Advertiser jointly and severally represent and warrant that each advertisement submitted by it for publication in the Magazine, and all materials contained therein (collectively, the “Ad Materials”) including, but not limited to, Ad Materials for which Publisher has provided creative services, contains no copy, illustrations, photographs, text or other content or subject matter that violate any law, infringe any right of any party, and/or is libelous, defamatory, obscene, disparaging, racist, hateful or scandalous. As part of the consideration and to induce Publisher to publish such advertisement, Agency and Advertiser jointly and severally shall indemnify and hold harmless Publisher from and against any loss, liability, damages, fines, penalties, and related costs and expenses (including attorneys’ fees) (collectively, “Losses”) arising from publication of such Ad Materials in any applicable editions, formats or derivations of the Magazine, including, but not limited to: (a) claims of invasion of privacy, violation of rights of privacy or publicity, trademark infringement, copyright infringement, libel, misrepresentation, false advertising, or any other claims against Publisher; or (b) the failure of such Ad Materials to be in compliance and conformity with any and all laws, orders, ordinances and statutes of the United States or any of the states or subdivisions thereof; or (c) any products, goods, services, programs, events, offers and promotions that are promoted by or referenced in the Ad Materials (and the fulfillment or non-fulfillment thereof). 2. Publisher may, in Publisher’s sole and exclusive discretion and without penalty to Publisher, reject and refuse to run any Ad Materials that Publisher believes: (a) do or may violate Agency’s and Advertiser’s representations and warranties set forth above; (b) are reasonably likely to be considered objectionable by a reasonable person; and/or (c) are likely to expose Publisher, Agency and/or Advertiser to heightened legal or reputational liability or risk for any reason. 3. As part of the consideration and to induce Publisher to provide such services, Agency and Advertiser jointly and severally shall indemnify and hold harmless Publisher from and against any Losses arising from such materials, products or services, including, but not limited to, those arising from any such claims. 4. Publisher’s acceptance of an advertisement for publication in the Magazine does not constitute an endorsement of the product or service advertised. No Advertiser or Agency may use the Magazine’s name or logo without Publisher’s prior written permission for each such use. 5. The word “advertisement” will be placed above all advertisements that, in Publisher’s opinion, resemble editorial matter. 6. All terms and conditions of this Rate Card and associated insertion orders, including but not limited to pricing information, shall be the confidential information of Publisher, and neither Agency nor Advertiser may disclose any such information without obtaining Publisher’s prior written consent. 7. This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California without regard to its conflicts of laws provisions. Any civil action or proceeding arising out of or related to this agreement shall be brought in the courts of record of the State of California. Advertiser and Agency each hereby consents to the jurisdiction of such courts and waives any objection to the laying of venue of any such civil action or proceeding in such courts. ALL PARTIES WAIVE ALL RIGHTS TO TRIAL BY JURY. ADDITIONAL COPY AND CONTRACT REGULATIONS 1. Orders and schedules are accepted for the advertising by brand of product or service only and may not be re-assigned to other products or services or to affiliated companies without the consent of Publisher.
