PILATES SUSPENSION METHOD (PSM)

By Sarah Phillips

If you have tried mat or reformer (or other equipment) Pilates classes, you will be well aware of the amazing benefits it can have both on the body and the mind. Pilates Suspension Method (PSM) takes all of these benefits (and more) to create a unique, challenging and fun Pilates class.

The creator of PSM, Rebecca Beckler, says “The Pilates Suspension Method combines contemporary and traditional mat and equipment-based Pilates exercises and performs them on a suspension trainer. Each PSM exercise has a Pilates root and is also done in many of the traditional Pilates series. PSM is designed to be taught in a group or one-to-one setting and is a wonderful way to keep up with your Pilates practice while travelling or if you want to spice up your current workout routine”

Similar to regular Pilates, it is excellent for improving your core strength, balance, and mental health. However, it also boasts the additional benefits of improving other muscle groups, because when using the suspension trainer, participants rely on their own bodyweight to carry out many of the exercises. Any brand of suspension trainer will do, such as TRX or Pro 3.

There are currently two classes available; Thursday mornings via zoom at 9.30am (your own suspension trainer will be required for this) and in person on Thursday evenings @ 7.30pm at the Europa Gymnastics Centre, Vimy Way, Crayford.
