Darrell Hulsey began his career in 1991 as a Senior Operations Manager for a physician services company based in Knoxville, Tennessee In that role, he oversaw hospital-based physician practices across four states His responsibilities included negotiating reimbursement contracts with third-party payors, handling managed care agreements, and helping market and establish new business opportunities in multiple regions These responsibilities gave him valuable early experience in practice management and business operations.
After three years, he became one of the co-founders of Medical Management Professionals (MMP), working alongside six partners. Over his tenure with the company, he served in multiple leadership positions that shaped its growth and success In 1998, the company was acquired by a public corporation, where he advanced to Vice President and eventually became President and Chief Executive Officer. When the organization transitioned back to private ownership in 2013, he remained in leadership until partnering with PBI in 2016
During his time with MMP, the company completed more than 34 million procedures, processed $5 billion in client charges, and collected over $2 billion in revenues These activities generated $165 million in topline revenue and $21 million in earnings, according to financial reports.

Working with the COO, CTO, and operations staff, he oversaw the consolidation of 12 separate practice management and billing systems into four over a period of three to four years. This transition reduced the workforce by approximately 35% while lowering operating costs by more than 45%
Earlier, in his role as Executive Vice President of Operations for the East Region, he managed physician practices ranging in size from four to more than 100 providers. These practices represented specialties such as radiology, anesthesiology, pathology, and emergency medicine Under his leadership, revenue in the East Region increased by 83%, and profits rose by 98% over five years.
