SUNRISE ON THE REAPING
by Suzanne Collins
by Cathie, S2
16 year old Haymitch Abernathy’s odds are not in his favour. After getting reaped on his birthday, he’s forced to leave his family and girlfriend to compete in the brutal 50th Hunger Games, a showcase of the Capitol’s power, alongside the snobbiest girl in town, Maysilee Donner, his old friend Louella McCoy and the odds maker Wyatt Callow.
The iconic prequel to The Hunger Games follows the story of Katniss Everdeen’s mentor, and introduces characters from the trilogy in a whole new light. It’s dystopian, exciting and sad.

THE HUNGER GAMES –SUZANNE COLLINS
By Jennifer, S2

In District 12… our main character Katniss will be entered to fight for glory and to the deathwill she make it out? Or will the story end with her death? Only one way to find out.
I loved this book so much with the ups and downs of our main character - every setback was conquered with the fierceness of Katniss Everdeen. You will love this book!
This political novel’s point of view comes from the animals of Manor Farm or should I say ‘Animal Farm’. Soon the animal’s rebel from the mistreatment from Mr Jones and drive him out so they get to work and start on their own new fair treatment farm but things start to turn sour and we learn what will happen as a democracy turns into a dictatorship This is a very good political book, it’s very popular as well as a great starter book if you love politics, democracy, dictatorship, or work then you should definitely try out this book!

By Murrin, S2
In the cold dark woods of District 12, Katniss stands and strolls back to the Victor’s Village with tiredness and trauma fresh in her mind. All the lives… 22 incident people dead. She’s just glad that she made it out alive, but another challenge faces herPresident Snow wants to send her back into the games for the third quarter quell. He wants her dead.
This is a great teen dystopian book that features detailed emotions, happiness and sadness both at the same time. It features political issues and a lot of gore and death. In my opinion it is one of the best books.

Interview with… Mr Arthur
What book are you currently reading?
I am currently reading ‘The Earth Transformed’ by Peter Frankopan. Are you enjoying it?
Yeah, it's an interesting book about the history of how civilization began in Mesopotamia and how civilization rose and fell.
What is your favourite book and why?
I think this one is more nostalgic than anything else, but it's ‘The Last Wish’ by Andrzej Sapkowski. He’s a Polish author who created The Witcher series and basically I got into it during covid, which was a nice time to read and actually get through a full series and escape from the fact the world was in absolute turmoil. The Last Wish is the first book in the Witcher series, and I really enjoyed that. Do you have a favourite author?
Yes, I do. J.R.R Tolkien is very good. His symbolism is very good in all the Lord of the Rings books. I also read The Hobbit as well and a lot of stuff he relates to Christianity which is quite interesting, so that good versus evil and how he relates it to heaven and hell throughout. Do you have a favourite book by him?
I think The Two Towers. The Two Towers is a very good one out of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Is there a book that you think everyone should read?
Yeah, I think everyone at some point should read Mythos by Stephen Fry. It's a very interesting approach to old Greek tales from classics so basically told in a way that is a bit more manageable to read. It’s funny and interesting and Stephen Fry is a good author Why do you enjoy reading?
I think the main part of why I like reading is just to kind of escape the worries that I have and move away from what is happening around me and calm
my mind a little bit. And, then I like to read nonfiction to learn more and take in a bit more information and be more knowledgeable about the world around me.
What is your favourite genre of books? Probably fantasy or non-fiction depending on the day which I suppose is obvious from what I've said so far.
What is your favourite childhood book. My favourite childhood book is called ‘Love you for always’. It's one my mum used to read for me when I was wee. It’s always like, 'I love you forever I love you for always as long as I'm living my baby you'll be’ and that's the end of every sentence. I like it a lot because I've got good memories from when I was wee.
Who would you want to be from a book ? I think part of me wished I could live in a medieval time so I think it would be Geralt from the Witcher. I think that would be cool because I can kill monsters and be the good guy and be really cool. What is the best film/TV adaptation from a book in your opinion?
I would choose Game of Thrones. I think the first half of Game of Thrones seasons is really good because they follow along with the book almost part for part which was quite good, they got bad at the end but initially the first part is good and really interesting and its very true to the original book. Do you judge a book by its cover?
I think I do. I think the ones that draw you in depend on the colours and patterns. I really don't like the ones that have a film adaptation and put the film characters on the front and then you've got the first one without the actors but then you can't find the rest of the series without the film characters on the front cover.
