Welcome to the May edition of Darlington Monthly! With experts having recently declared that the pandemic is now officially over in the UK, the country can start to optimistically look ahead to the future as the COVID threat recedes even further. Under the terms of the post-lockdown roadmap, indoor and outdoor cultural performances can recommence from 17 May at the earliest. However, two Darlington venues, the Hippodrome and The Stage Door, are already getting state help with their post-pandemic recovery, as page 12 details. While waiting for those venues and others to reopen their doors, you could catch a film on Netflix (check out our review of Thunder Force on page 30) or hack and slash with the new PS5 game Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. We deliver our verdict of it on page 24. Here’s to a healthy and happy May, and we’ll be back next month.
