INFORMATION ON FEES AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Course costs
All tuition fees and awarding body costs are non-refundable, unless the course is cancelled by the college. The advertised course fees are for the full duration of the course.
Payment plan
Darlington College offers an instalment payment plan for tuition fees. You are required to pay 25% of the tuition fee at the point of enrolment along with the examination and registration fees.
The remaining 75% of the tuition fee will be collected in monthly instalments by direct debit concluding one month before the end of the course.
Failure to make payment on the due date will result in all outstanding fees being immediately due. Continued failure to pay course fees may result in your removal from the course of study.
If you withdraw from your course before completion you will still be liable for payment of all outstanding fees.
Exam late entries and re-sits
Registration and exam entries that do not meet awarding body closing dates means you may become liable for late fees payments. There is no remission on late entry fees. Contact Exams on 01325 503104 for further details.
Examination re-sits may be charged at the discretion of the college. Any student requiring more than 1 re-sit of any individual examination will be referred to the curriculum manager and a fee will be charged at the discretion of the manager. The manager will ensure that adequate tuition is received before another re-sit is booked. If a fee is required it will be charged at the awarding organisation fee plus 10% administration cost. If a re-sit is requested for an examination that has been passed, in order to improve a grade, this will be charged at the same rate as above.
University level qualifications
If you are studying a Teesside University course at Darlington College then you may be able to apply for a tuition fee loan. Ask for a copy of the Higher Education Courses Financial Information leaflet for more details.
Advanced Learner Loan
If you’re 19 or older, you might be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan. This loan can help cover the fees for courses at colleges and training organizations. Most learners aged 19 and over, studying at Level 3 to 6, can qualify for these loans from the UK government.
Applying is straightforward: your household income isn’t considered, and there’s no credit check. You won’t need to start repaying until your income exceeds £25,000 a year, at which point you’ll repay 9% of your earnings above this threshold. Additionally, if your income surpasses £480 a week or £2,083 a month at any time during the year (such as with overtime work), loan repayments will be deducted accordingly.
To qualify you must be:
• aged 19 or over on the first day of your course (there’s no upper age limit)
• living in the UK on the first day of your course and have lived in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for three years immediately before this unless you meet one of the exceptions
• studying with a college or training organisation in England approved for public funding
• enrolling on an eligible course at Level 3 to 6 which includes A levels, Access to HE Diplomas and other Vocational Qualifications.
Financial advice
Your chosen course may be funded depending on your personal circumstances. Please email enquiryline@darlington.ac.uk for guidance.
If you earn less than £20,319 a year you may be able to access free training. Please come and talk to us if you think this could apply to you.

D.A.D Darlington Association on Disability
The training delivered by your team was fantastic. It gave our volunteers practical skills, clear guidance and the confidence to support people safely. The sessions were friendly, engaging and easy to follow, with lots of real examples that helped everything make sense. We really appreciated that the training was tailored specifically to our organisation. You took the time to understand D.A.D’s values, policies and procedures, and shaped the learning around what our volunteers actually need in their roles.
That made a huge difference to how relevant and useful the sessions felt. Our volunteers left feeling more prepared, more capable and more confident. We’d happily recommend this training to any organisation wanting to build strong, person-centred volunteer support.
Cummins Darlington
Cummins Darlington's European Technical Operations (ETO) function identified a skill gap in practical health and safety skills among Placement Students joining the business each year. .While comprehensive health, safety, and environmental inductions are provided internally, it was recognized that additional hands-on training would significantly enhance their understanding of safe working practices, tool usage, and workshop safety. To address this need, Cummins partnered with the Adult Skills Department at Darlington College to develop a bespoke training program tailored specifically to the requirements of our Early Careers cohorts. The College works closely with Cummins employees to create a balanced curriculum that combined classroom-based theory with practical, workshop-based learning.
Darlington College's excellent facilities and flexible approach, including providing access during holiday periods, enabled participants to gain valuable real-world experience in a safe and controlled environment. The program has successfully equipped students with the confidence and practical skills required to operate safely and effectively in the workplace. The partnership continues to deliver significant value, with the program being reviewed and enhanced annually to reflect business needs and participant feedback. We greatly appreciate the support, expertise, and collaboration provided by Darlington College in helping us develop the next generation of engineering talent.

From Junior Roles to Million-Pound Projects
"Completing the CIPS Level 6 Professional Diploma helped me achieve MCIPS status, enabling me to progress from junior procurement roles to my current role as a Strategic Procurement Partner responsible for the procurement of schemes worth millions of pounds. Whilst I have been able to progress and climb the ladder professionally, achieving MCIPS also provided me with a strengthened belief in myself and my ability, and increased my confidence to guide stakeholders to successful procurement outcomes.

It was a long and sometimes challenging road, but one of the most rewarding journeys I have undertaken. This qualification opens doors and offers seats at the highest tables in the business world, so don't be disheartened if you find it challenging. The hard work is worth it."
