APPRENTICESHIP REQUIREMENTS The College offers a range of apprenticeships giving you the opportunity to enjoy the independence of work, while achieving industry-recognised qualifications. While you’re studying for your qualifications you will be employed and paid a salary. Why should I become an apprentice? If you are ready to commit to both work and study, then an apprenticeship could be for you. H ere are just some of the benefits of becoming an apprentice: ● Apprenticeships offer a varied learning experience, it’s all about learning by doing, less time in the classroom and more time being taught on the job. ● You will be paid a salary by your employer – so you get to earn while you learn. ● Getting in to employment early means there is the potential for you to progress in your chosen career quickly and work towards earning a good salary much earlier.

How does an apprenticeship work? The College offers apprenticeship Standards across all areas of curriculum with all requiring 20% off the job training which would be set out by your assessor when you sign up as an apprentice.

What entry qualifications do I need to do an apprenticeship? The entry route to an apprenticeship is not entirely based on academic achievements although it is recommended that you have achieved at least 4s in English and maths as this is part of most employer requirements.

How long does an apprenticeship take? Apprenticeships typically take between one and four years to complete, depending on the type of training. There is no set time to complete an apprenticeship as they vary in content and size. The length of time taken will depend on your ability and your employer’s requirements.

What can I do next?

Apprenticeships will give you practical and transferable skills that employers want, so when you’ve finished you will have lots of experience and can apply for that that all-important promotion.. You can also come back to College and study university-level, management or professional qualifications.. Discover more about apprenticeships in our course and apprenticeship section.

Entry onto apprenticeships Most entry requirements are subject to GCSE grades which will determine whether you start on a Level 2 or Level 3.

Entry requirements Level 2 – Usually 4 GCSEs at grades D-E/2-3+, including English and maths, subject to employer/ College discretion. Level 3 – 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C/4+, including

WHAT ARE V LEVELS V Levels are vocational qualifications that focus on developing industry specific skills and knowledge. They’re designed with employers to ensure students learn exactly what the workplace needs and they carry the same national recognition as A Levels. This gives learners a strong route into skilled employment, apprenticeships, or further study.

What Students Get Students gain technical, real‑world skills directly linked to their chosen career, supported by substantial industry work placements and training that meets professional standards.

Level 2 Vocational Qualifications If you’re not yet ready to move straight onto a Level 3 course, Level 2 qualifications provide the ideal next step. As part of national reforms to vocational education, new Level 2 programmes are being designed to give students clearer progression routes into higher-level study, apprenticeships and employment. These reforms aim to ensure qualifications are recognised by employers, universities and training providers, while developing the practical skills and knowledge needed for future careers. At Darlington College, our Level 2 courses combine hands-on learning, industry-relevant experience and personalised support, helping you build confidence and prepare for your next step.

Under the new vocational qualification reforms, Level 2 study is being designed around two clear pathways: New qualification updates will be added to our website. Scan the QR code to find out more.

This means that some of the courses currently advertised in this prospectus may be subject to change. Darlington College will ensure that Careers Advisers at each school are kept up to date with courses that are amended. It is also important that when you apply to College that you keep your contact details up to date, so our admissions team and tutors can communicate any of these changes to you directly.
