SAMBURU SOPA LODGES

There is more to the African night sky that meets the eye. This October, two special events will give stargazers even more reason to look up and enjoy the wonders above at Samburu Sopa Lodge. On 4th October, Saturn takes centre stage as Earth passes between the Sun and Saturn. This makes the planet appear brighter and easier to spot throughout the night, from around 19:00 to 04:00 EAT. While Saturn can be seen with the naked eye, a telescope offers an even better view, revealing its famous rings and later on 21st October the sky will put on another show with the Orionid Meteor Shower. Earth will pass through dust and debris left behind by Comet Halley. As these tiny particles burn up in our atmosphere, they create bright streaks of light across the sky, commonly known as the shooting stars. The best time to watch will be between 23:00 and 05:00 EAT. For guests at Samburu Sopa Lodge, October offers two special opportunities to experience the night sky; from catching a glimpse of Saturn’s rings through a telescope to watching shooting stars streak across the darkness. Mark your calendars and do not miss these celestial highlights. If you have an event or project that you would like to publicize free of charge, please email us at info@darlife.com

Exploring Zanzibar at its fullest with Maru Maru hospitality

Maru Maru Hotel consists of two wings – the Classic Wing with 11 rooms, which have undergone restoration, and the New Wing with 33 modern rooms built around a small courtyard with a star-shaped fountain. The courtyard is ideal for spending time quietly reading, the noise of the water in the fountain a soothing backdrop. On the way to the courtyard, there is a coffee shop which also serves freshly baked pastries and cakes just in case you want to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea whilst rewinding. The rooms are well equipped with modern amenities, a comfortable bed in Zanzibari style, swathed in a mosquito net, which is not only essential but also creates a romantic atmosphere with the stained-

Upon arrival, we were greeted at the airport by a friendly driver and refreshed with a cool, scented towel to mark the beginning of a wonderful holiday. The hotel reception is welcoming with aquamarine walls and eye-catching paintings. glass shades. An elevator connects both wings to the rooftop terrace, which is a delightful place to be, largely because of the stunning view of the ocean, so you can witness the gentle traffic of dhows, a vista that’s barely changed in generations. Climbing the flight of wooden stairs leading to the terrace restaurant and reflecting on the hotel’s personality, it’s evident why Maru Maru has been the

preferred property for eminent personalities like Bill Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea. And it wasn’t just the atmosphere that struck me, the scent of the place did too: the hotel smells wonderful as day-long diffusers burn perfumed essential oils. Maru Maru serves a delightful variety of cuisines, especially Continental and Asian – quality is great and portions are generous. I especially loved the way an array of sauces was offered which you could blend with the main ingredient – poultry, meat, seafood or vegetables. All the staff right - from the General Manager, receptionist, chefs –lead and supporting roles were super friendly and helpful. Services and requests were promptly addressed. So, if you’re after an affordable Stone Town break – Maru Maru is a great option and delivers the perfect launch pad from where to explore this historic little place.

Pristine coral reefs, home to dolphins and dense masses of various corals, are to be found at Mnemba Island on the northeast coast. For shorter day trips out of Stone Town, you can rent equipment and hire a dhow to take you to Safari Blue or Prison Island. . Take a Spice Tour. - A key point along the Arab-Indian trading route for centuries, Zanzibar is synonymous with spice production to this day. Most famously, saffron, cardamom, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg are harvested in abundance on the island. Plenty of agents and companies offer spice tours, during which you will spend about two hours on a plantation learning how

various spices and fruits are grown. Bonuses: a) You get to sample everything. b) Your guide will amaze you by scampering all the way up to the top of a coconut tree and back. c) You will leave with a crown or a ring or a purse made out of leaves by which to remember the experience.

. Travel Through History in Stone Town - The former Capital of the Omani Empire, Stone Town was the base from which the earliest trading caravans weaved their way to the Congo in search of ivory and slaves. It was also the place where explorers like Livingstone and Stanley planned their journeys, which later led to the colonization of East Africa. Recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Stone Town has a wealth of historical and beautiful buildings that visitors can spend days exploring. The city’s sites exhibit a blend of Middle Eastern, Indian, and African traditions and architectures. Arrange a walking tour with a local guide who can lead you through the winding alleyways to the House of Wonders, the Arab Fort, the Slave Market, and Africa House.

Why The

Nothern Park

A sense of African adventure

T

he Northern Safari Circuit is a popular choice for safaris in Tanzania due to its high concentration of wildlife, iconic landmarks, and a wide range of activities. The region is home to worldfamous national parks like the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, offering exceptional game-viewing opportunities. Key reasons Great Migration 36 36 October 2026 | Dar Life

The Northern Circuit is the best place to witness the Great Migration, where over two million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles travel in a continuous cycle through the Serengeti ecosystem. Key moments of the migration include: • Calving season (January– March): The herds settle in the Ndutu Plains in the southern Serengeti to give birth, attracting many

predators. • Mara River crossings (July–October): Millions of wildebeest cross the crocinfested Mara River in the northern Serengeti in a dramatic spectacle. Wildlife and Landscapes The northern circuit features a diverse range of landscapes and habitats, from the open savannahs of the Serengeti to the baobab-studded plains of Tarangire National Park.

• Serengeti National Park: Features endless plains and large populations of big cats like lions, cheetahs, and leopards. • Ngorongorp Crater: This UNESCO World Heritage site is a collapsed volcanic caldera that acts as a natural enclosure for an extraordinary concentration of wildlife, including the “Big Five”—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and the critically endangered black

rhino. • Tarangire National Park: Famous for its large elephant herds and giant baobab trees. • Lake Manyara National Park: A lush, green park known for its tree-climbing lions and vast flocks of flamingos. Accessibility and infrastructure The northern circuit is ideal for first-time visitors and

families due to its accessibility and well-developed tourist infrastructure. • The parks are relatively close to each other, minimizing travel time. • Access is easy, with most safaris starting from Arusha and Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). • Accommodation options are plentiful, ranging from budget campsites to luxurious lodges.

Activities A northern safari provides opportunities for cultural encounters and various activities beyond game drives. • Cultural visits: Visitors can learn about the traditions of the local Maasai people. • Hot-air balloon safaris: Offered over the Serengeti, providing a unique perspective of the landscape and wildlife. • Walking safaris: Available in certain areas, providing

a more intimate experience with nature. • Mount Kilimanjaro: You can get incredible views of Africa›s highest peak, which is located near the safari circuit. Best Time to Visit Northern Tanzania • While northern Tanzania safaris offer rewarding experiences throughout the year, the dry season is generally considered the

best time to visit. to October, wildlife gathers around water sources, making it relatively easy to spot. • The green season from November to March brings lush scenery, fewer tourists, and excellent birdwatching. In April and May, heavy rains may affect road conditions, however, they also turn the landscape into a lush paradise.

The lodge features beautiful African-style buildings with 75 total spacious rooms, all with a private balconies and a mini bar. Lodge staff let us know that they even have rooms that accommodate those with physical disabilities, as well as four interconnecting rooms suitable for families. Our room, like most of the others, had two queen size beds with mosquito nets and large sliding doors opening to a private balcony. While the circular guest suites, with their high, conical roofs, fan out to either side of the public areas, it is worth mentioning a word of caution here. Because the lodge is not fenced in any way, wild animals are free to come and go as they please, meaning that movements throughout the lobby area might be delayed by an elephant or two. While such a situation is very rare, the kind lodge guards nonetheless insisted on accompanying us to and from our room each morning

and night. On the other side of the reception lobby is a coffee shop where you can enjoy a wide range of Tanzanian highland brews along with freshly baked pastries. Adjacent to this area, a flight of steps takes you down into the dining room for a leisurely and delicious meal beneath an intricately painted mural on a high gable at one end of the room. Even the floor is a work of art with its multi-coloured timbers and copper nails. Since we love being outdoors, we were thrilled to find out that the restaurant has a terrace running along one side of its entire length so we could enjoy your breakfast with a view over the park’s tree-studded, grassy plains. Weather permitting, lunch is always served at the lodge’s lowest level and beside the swimming pool with its central island and bar beside a dry river bed, which lodge staff

informed us fills up during the rainy seasons. As for dinner, the dining room has an enormous outdoor patio where we enjoyed dinner every other night, and this experience beneath Africa’s starfilled sky is one that we will never forget. You won’t be disappointed staying at the lovely Tarangire Sopa Lodge. The lodge promises a relaxing and unique experience. Between our lovely room, the pool, the game room, the hospitality lounge with complimentary newspapers, and, above all, the stunning scenery and wildlife in the park, we wished our stay would last forever!

Ngorongoro Valley A Different Pace of Safari

Set among the rolling landscapes of Karatu, just 30 minutes from the Ngorongoro Crater gate, the lodge offers an ideal base from which to experience Tanzania’s celebrated northern safari circuit - and a destination worth lingering in between adventures. 44 44 October 2026 | Dar Life

P

art of Marriott Bonvoy’s Tribute Portfolio, Turaco Ngorongoro Valley brings together contemporary African design, generous spaces and warm, intuitive hospitality. It is a place where the excitement of safari sits naturally alongside quieter moments, creating a staythat feels both connected to its surroundings and entirely at ease within them. Accommodation Drawing inspiration from the traditional African boma, the lodge’s standalone suites are designed with a strong sense of privacy and

place. Contemporary interiors pair natural textures and earthy tones with subtle African influences, creating spaces that feel warm, refined and deeply comfortable. Generous proportions and private fireplaces create an inviting retreat after a day in the wilderness, particularly as the temperature falls on Karatu’s cooler evenings. Every detail has been considered so that returning to the comfort and

stillness of the lodge feelsas much a part of the experience as setting out from it. Farm to Table Dining The story of each meal often begins just beyond the kitchen. The lodge’s on-site farm supplies seasonal vegetables, herbs and fresh produce, allowing the menus at Caldera Restaurant to follow the land and its changing

seasons. These ingredients are complemented by carefully sourced local produce and transformed into dishes that are contemporary in approach while remaining connected to their surroundings. Guests can wander through the farm during their stay, discovering the produce, herbs and ingredients grown. This close connection between farm and kitchen brings a freshness and simplicity to dining at Caldera,

with menus shaped by the seasons and a genuine sense of where each ingredient comes from. At the Lodge Time at Turaco Ngorongoro Valley has a rhythm of its own. Mornings can begin on the multi-purpose viewing deck as thelandscape slowly comes to life, while afternoons lend themselves to the warmth of the heated pool or a restorative treatment after a day of exploration. For something more leisurely, the outdoor games area offers an easy place to spend time together, while the lodge’s on-site farm invites guests to discover a quieter side of life in Karatu. As evening approaches, attention turns to N Bar, an intimate lounge designed for good drinks and unhurried conversation, beforethe bonfire draws guests outside as the air cools. It is this balance of spaces - some social, others made for retreat - that makes days at the lodge feel wonderfully unstructured, with as much reason to stay in as there is to venture out

Activities & Excursions Some of northern Tanzania’s most celebrated landscapes lie within easy reach. Turaco Ngorongoro Valley is just 30 minutes from theNgorongoro Crater gate, making an early start into the crater effortless, while Lake Manyara and Tarangire offer rewarding days out. Private game drives and curated excursions make it easy to explore the region, with each day tailored around how much - or how little - guests wish to do. And with the comforts of the lodge waiting on return, days of discovery settle naturally into slower afternoons and relaxed evenings back at Turaco.

at N Bar to stories around the bonfire. In between, there is time to explore the farm, linger over lunch at Caldera or simply enjoy the stillness of the surrounding landscape. It is a place from which to discover one of Africa’s most remarkable landscapes, but also one that makes staying in feel like part of the journey. Here, the adventure beyond the lodge and the pleasure of simply staying in are given equal importance - leaving guests with the rare feeling that there is nowhere else they need to be.

The Turaco Experience At Turaco Ngorongoro Valley, the experience extends far beyond the safari itself. There are mornings that begin on the road to the crater, afternoons that stretch out beside the heated pool and evenings that moveeffortlessly from drinks

Hidden Gems in Tanzania Off-the-Beaten-Path Adventures

Tanzania is world-famous for iconic destinations like Serengeti National Park and Mount Kilimanjaro, but for adventure seekers looking to escape the crowds, there’s a treasure trove of hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Beyond the popular safari circuits and beach resorts lie lesser-known destinations that offer raw beauty, thrilling adventures, and an authentic taste of Tanzania’s wilderness. If you’re a seasoned traveler or simply someone who craves something off the beaten path, these hidden spots in Tanzania should be on your list. 50 50 2026 | Dar 26 October April 2026 | Dar LifeLife

Saadani National Park The only park where beach meets bush, allowing for oceanside wildlife viewing near Bagamoyo. Katavi National Park One of the most remote and least-visited parks in the country. It is a “silent paradise” known for massive pods of hippos, huge buffalo herds, and raw, untouched scenery.

tropical forest glades, Ngurdoto Crater are just a few. Visitors to this Park will have opportunities to do game viewing, ride a horse, climb the mount Meru as well as do organized walks with a ranger!

Arusha National Park

Ruaha National Park One of Tanzania’s best-kept secrets. It has incredible biodiversity but far fewer visitors than the northern parks. It’s known for having Tanzania’s largest elephant population and large prides of lions.

The Park offers way too many attractions compared to its area. The unforgiving landscapes of Mount Meru and Ash cone, scenic view of Momella Lakes,

Mahale Mountains National Park A remote, stunning park known for trekking wild chimpanzees,

Nyerere National Park Formerly part of Selous Game Reserve, it is now the largest national park in Tanzania, offering boat safaris on the Rufiji River. Rubondo Island National Park An island sanctuary perfect for birdwatching, hiking, and seeing forest elephants and chimpanzees. Gombe Stream National Park The smallest park, famous for Jane Goodall’s chimpanzee research and tranquil lakeside setting.

Udzungwa Mountains National Park A paradise for hikers, known for its high biodiversity, rainforests, and waterfalls. Kitulo National Park Often called the “Serengeti of Flowers,” this park is famous for its rare orchids and alpine flora rather than large mammals. Ranging from remote wilderness parks and secluded mountain trails to pristine islands, hidden gems in Tanzania are not to be missed. They reward adventurous travellers with immersive experiences and a chance to explore beyond the iconic safaris and famous peaks.

Travelling off the beaten path in Tanzania allows you to experience parts of the country few other visitors see. By venturing along less trodden paths, you can enjoy solitude, authenticity, and unforgettable wildlife encounters.

Towns & Cities A Guide to Tanzania

ARUSHA

Located in the north of Tanzania, in the shadow of Mount Meru, Arusha is the safari capital of the country. Tourists usually overnight here before their safari around the Northern Circuit. Built by the Germans as a centre of colonial administration, Arusha is now one of the country’s most prosperous towns. The site for the United Nations Criminal Tribunal and the headquarters for the tripartite Commission for East African

co-operation, Arusha is also the centre for the trading of Tanzanite, a rare gemstone only found in Tanzania. The National Natural History Museum, with its collection of antiquities demonstrating Tanzania’s natural heritage, is housed in an old German Fort in the centre of Arusha while the nearby Cultural Heritage centre and its adjacent, four storey Art Gallery are also well worth a visit.

BAGAMOYO

Bagamoyo is a centre for dhow sailboat building on the Tanzanian coast. A quiet village with a few German colonial buildings still standing, it was once one the most important trading ports on the East African coast, and the penultimate stop of slave and ivory caravans travelling on foot from Lake Tanganyika on their way to Zanzibar. Missionaries active in abolishing the slave trade made Bagamoyo a centre for their

activities. The name ‘Bagamoyo’ means ‘lay down your heart’ in Kiswahili, this is particularly poignant given that the town was the last stop on the mainland before captured slaves were sent to destinations unknown from Zanzibar, never to return.

DODOMA

Located in the heartland of Tanzania, &QFQOC KU VJG PCVKQPoU QHƂEKCN RQNKVKECN capital and the seat of Government in the country. Comparably much smaller and less developed than the country’s commercial centre, Dar es Salaam, Dodoma remains a centre for national politics. Situated on the eastern edge of the southern highlands, the city is surrounded by a rich agricultural area and pleasant scenery. It is the centre of Tanzania’s growing wine industry.

Historically, Dodoma was a stopover on the overland caravan route that travelled from the Swahili Coast inland towards Lake Tanganyika. Early in the 20th Century, the city became a major point on the Central Line Railway, which carried agricultural crops for export to the harbour in Dar es Salaam.

activities of the area. The town makes a good overland base for visting the Chimpanzee Safari to the Gombe Stream National Park and Mahale Mountains National Park.

MBEYA

Near the Zambian border deep in the southern highlands, the city of Mbeya is KIGOMA the major agricultural capital in the The bustling town of Kigoma is the country’s southwest region. The Mbeya regional capital of western Tanzania and Mountain Range lies to the north, and a central port in the area. Located on the Poroto Mountain Range lies to the eastern shores of Lake Tanganyika, the southeast. Coffee, tea, bananas and Kigoma is surrounded by rugged cocoa, all of which are grown mountains and forests that make it a in the region, are sent to Mbeya for pleasing and beautiful location. In addition to its agricultural prosperity,

Mbeya’s mineral wealth has attracted investment and provides the country with a good source of income. The town was originally founded in the 1930s, when gold was discovered and a ‘gold rush’ ensued. The Mbeya gold supply turned out to be large giving for the city an opportunity to become properly established and saved it from becoming a ghosttown status as so often happened after the gold ran out. The city continues to supply the country with a regular amount of gold. Its mountain views and pleasant weather make it a good stopover point for over land travellers heading south.

MOSHI

Nestled at the base of Mt Kilimanjaro, Moshi is the coffee-producing centre of the country. Vast plantations of coffee blanket the area, surrounding the town and rising up the slopes of Kilimanjaro. Coffee is the mainstay of life in Moshi, and the seasonal coffee auctions, where international buyers bid for wholesale coffee, is an event not to be missed if you’re in town. Sugar plantations are also of central importance to the region’s economy, and can be seen outside the town. Cultural tourism programmes can arrange short hikes and day-trips to local villages, and also tours to nearby coffee farms. The main reason visitors come to Moshi is to climb Mt Kilimanjaro, the mountain whose thick clouds and snow-capped peak tower over the agricultural town. Climbing expeditions depart for

Kilimanjaro National Park early in the morning, before the clouds that cluster daily around the mountaintop have risen, and when the air is fresh and cool. Whether you’re in Moshi to scale to the top of Africa or learn more about coffee growing and production, Moshi is a quiet haven of tranquil peace, its sedate streets offer a warm welcome in a beautiful setting.

MWANZA

Situated on the southern shores of Lake Victoria, in the north west of the country, Tanzania’s second city is the perfect base from which to visit nearby Rubondo National Park, Saanane Island and the Bujora Sukuma and Nyerere museums. It also offers easy access to the Serengeti being only a 2 ó hour drive from the Western Grumeti. Other attractions include lake cruises, ECPQGKPI UCHCTKU CPF ƂUJKPI HQT VKNCRKC or giant nile perch. Mwanza is also known as Rock City because of the gigantic rock outcrops jutting out of the lake and strewn around the city. The most famous of these are the Bismarck Rocks, named after the German chancellor under whom this originally small town was established as the administration centre of German East Africa.

PANGANI

Once a centre of Swahili trade with the African mainland, the town of Pangani is now a sleepy backwater that remembers little of its splendorous past. An old German administrative

boma still stands behind a colonnade of tall shade trees and the former prison, painted a fading ochre red, looks over the river’s lazy waters. Old houses along the main road offer lived-in examples of colonial and traditional Swahili architecture, with buildings slowly crumbling against the monsoon winds. Visitors passing through the area would do well to explore what remains of the old town on foot. Even a short walk rewards visitors with a glimpse of quiet life in the old trading towns along the Swahili Coast.

TABORA

The sleepy town of Tabora, in the hinterland of western Tanzania, remains a key transit point in the country. The Central Line railway branches at Tabora to both Kigoma and Mwanza, and visitors travelling by train often use Tabora as a stopover point during their journey. The regions around Tabora are famous for the honey they produce, and large jerry cans and bottles of the famous nectar can be bought in the village market. Tabora was once a major trading point and stopover for caravans that connected Lake Tanganyika and Central Africa with the coastal town of Bagamoyo to the northeast. Its historical importance is illustrated by the fact that the infamous slave and ivory trader Tippu Tip, who lived during the 19th Century, made extensive use of Tabora as a centre of his vast trading empire.

TANGA

The bustling port of Tanga is Tanzania’s second port after the urban centre of Dar es Salaam. Although the port is a centre of marine export, import, and trade, the town of Tanga still has a quiet, laid-back feel to it, as if not much has changed over the decades. Indeed, along the older sections of the town, examples of old colonial architecture and a few Arab houses still give testament to the area’s importance during the heyday of Indian Ocean trade. 6JG ƂUJ OCTMGV CPF DGCEJGU OCMG a pleasant stop during a day trip, and the city is a good place for buying supplies if you’re headed to one of the more remote areas of beaches on the northern coast.

rom tingatinga artists to more contemporary painters, sculptors, photographers and filmmakers, Tanzania is not lacking in artistic skill and variety. While some Tanzanian artists have managed to establish themselves, many more hustle on a daily basis to be recognized for their unique talent. Dar Life caught up with the newly emerging artist KADINALI, who shared with us a bit about his history, what inspires him, and how he envisions the future of art in Tanzania. DL - What inspired you to start painting? Kadinali: I love painting because art is in my blood.

DL - How long have you been an artist? Kadinali: I have been an artist for more than ten years now. DL - When did you start? Kadinali: I started painting in 2000 at the Tanzania Russian Cultural Center, under teacher Ernest Mtaya in the Dar Art Youth Group. DL - What is a highlight of your artistic career? Kadinali: Definitely participating in in “Fashion Design” in 2000. 67 October 2026 | Dar Life 67

DL - Tell us about your first exhibition? Kadinali: It was at the Embassy of Finland. DL - Where do you do your work? Kadinali: I work from my home. DL - Do you work from life, or from photographs or from imagination? Kadinali: I work from my memories. And I try to recapture a moment, a feeling that I felt then. With my latest work where I have combined photography I obviously used photographs and painting to create the final image. DL - Where do you feel art is going? 68 68 October 2026 | Dar Life Kadinali: In Tanzania art is going very slow. There

are many beautiful artworks, but the market is unfortunately small. DL - What is the role of the artist in society? Kadinali: I think my work is there to show and highlight the ordinary and to make the ordinary special by presenting it in a new perspective in a way. It’s about appreciating the simple things in life. DL - Do you prefer a perfect smooth technique or a more energetic expressive technique and why? Kadinali: I like energetic techniques, as using them encourages me to work hard so that when someone looks at my painting, they realize how much goes into painting. I want them to see that it is not easy to be a painter. DL - What do you think makes your work standout? Kadinali: I paint with confidence.

EXIM BANK TANZANIA Strengthens Women’s Entrepreneurship Through WEP 2026 Exim Bank Tanzania has graduated 50 women entrepreneurs who successfully completed the six-week Women Empowerment Programme (WEP) 2026, during a graduation ceremony held in Dar es Salaam.

I

mplemented through the Bank’s Exim Cares initiative, WEP equips women entrepreneurs with practical knowledge and skills to strengthen their businesses, improve financial management and identify opportunities for sustainable growth. The 2026 cohort received training in business leadership, financial management, financial literacy, business growth strategies and decision-making, alongside practical skills in record keeping, budgeting, understanding 72 72 October 2026 | Dar Life

customers, managing business finances and planning for longterm growth. Established in 2023 as part of Exim Cares, WEP has continued to evolve based on the needs and experiences of participating women. The programme expanded to Arusha in 2024, while in 2025 it further expanded through leadership-focused training covering areas including emotional resilience and business networking, benefiting more than 300 women. For the 2026 programme, Exim

Bank Tanzania partnered with the Tanzania Women’s Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) to support implementation and strengthen opportunities available to participants. Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Senior Manager for Marketing and Communications at Exim Bank Tanzania, Kauthar D’Souza, said WEP was designed to go beyond training by giving women the knowledge, networks and opportunities needed to strengthen and grow their businesses.

“WEP is more than a training programme. It is an investment in women, their businesses and the communities they support. Through the programme, we want women to gain not only knowledge, but also the confidence, networks and opportunities they need to make informed decisions and build stronger, more sustainable businesses,” said D’Souza. She added that the programme encourages women to understand their markets, know

their customers, manage their finances effectively and develop clear strategies for business growth. As part of the programme, participants presented their businesses before a panel of judges. The assessment considered factors including market need, understanding of customers, quality and competitiveness of products or services, business planning, financial management and growth potential.

The top three participants were recognised for their outstanding performance, with the first-place winner receiving TZS 8 million, second place TZS 5 million and third place TZS 3 million. Speaking during the ceremony, Head of the Marketing and Communications Unit at Exim Bank Tanzania, Stanley Kafu, said the graduation should mark the beginning of a new chapter for the participants, with the Bank expecting them to apply the knowledge gained to strengthen their businesses.

73 October 2026 | Dar Life 73

“Today, as we celebrate your graduation, we want to see the knowledge and skills you have gained reflected in your businesses. We want to see proper business records, clear budgets, new customers and decisions being made based on information rather than assumptions. We also want to see some of you return in the future, not as participants, but as examples of success that can inspire other women,” said Kafu. He encouraged the graduates to use the WEP network to build relationships, exchange experiences and support other women, noting that the success of one entrepreneur can create opportunities for others through employment, partnerships and business networks. Following graduation, participants will also be guided towards relevant financial opportunities and services based on their business needs and capacity. These include interest-free financing within the limits established under the programme, while eligible participants may also have access to business financing to 74 74 October 2026 | Dar Life

WEP forms part of Exim Cares, Exim Bank Tanzania’s broader community investment initiative, which focuses on addressing social and economic needs within communities. The Bank’s approach goes beyond traditional corporate social responsibility by supporting initiatives designed to create sustainable value through areas including health, education, environment, innovation and financial literacy.

the business grows, it can create employment, increase income and contribute to economic activity in the community,” he said. Exim Bank Tanzania expects the impact of WEP 2026 to extend beyond the graduation ceremony, with graduates applying the knowledge gained to grow their businesses, enter new markets, create opportunities and contribute to their families and communities.

Kafu said the Bank’s commitment to women’s empowerment is based on the understanding that stronger women-owned businesses can create wider economic benefits.
