ZANZIBAR TOURISM & INVESTMENT SHOW 2025

KILIMANJARO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) is set for a significant overhaul, aiming to improve travel experiences and boost connectivity for those visiting the country’s famous natural attractions. The Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) has recently signed an agreement with the Chinese company STECOL Corporation to enhance the airport’s infrastructure, representing a major investment in Tanzania’s tourism industry. KIA serves as the primary gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti National Park, and other popular tourist attractions in northern Tanzania. Its strategic location establishes it as a crucial hub for both domestic and international travelers, and this upgrade will further augment its capacity to accommodate the increasing number of tourists.

ZANZIBAR

Zanzibar is advancing efforts to eliminate malaria as it aims to bolster the region’s tourism industry and blue economy ambitions. Under the leadership of President Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi and the Zanzibar End Malaria Council, the islands have entered the pre-elimination phase, with local malaria transmission reduced to historically low levels. Officials emphasise that sustaining progress is vital to avoiding resurgence, with collective action involving government, private sector and community stakeholders at the forefront of the initiative.

GUARDIANS OF THE PEAK

A new environmental documentary, Guardians of the Peak, will premiere in Dar es Salaam on 5 May, highlighting conservation efforts and sustainable tourism around Mount Kilimanjaro. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Ram Ally and supported by the Tanzania Film Board, the production focuses on elevating Tanzania’s global tourism appeal while raising awareness about environmental preservation, particularly among Chinese audiences. The film is the product of a collaboration between Ram Films, Zara Tanzania Adventures, the TanzaniaChina Friendship Promotion Association, and the Tanzania Film Board. Upon arrival, we were greeted at the airport by a friendly driver and refreshed with a cool, scented towel to mark the beginning of a wonderful holiday. The hotel reception is welcoming with aquamarine walls and eye-catching paintings. glass shades. An elevator connects both wings to the rooftop terrace, which is a delightful place to be, largely because of the stunning view of the ocean, so you can witness the gentle traffic of dhows, a vista that’s barely changed in generations. Climbing the flight of wooden stairs leading to the terrace restaurant and reflecting on the hotel’s personality, it’s evident why Maru Maru has been the

preferred property for eminent personalities like Bill Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea. And it wasn’t just the atmosphere that struck me, the scent of the place did too: the hotel smells wonderful as day-long diffusers burn perfumed essential oils. Maru Maru serves a delightful variety of cuisines, especially Continental and Asian – quality is great and portions are generous. I especially loved the way an array of sauces was offered which you could blend with the main ingredient – poultry, meat, seafood or vegetables. All the staff right - from the General Manager, receptionist, chefs –lead and supporting roles were super friendly and helpful. Services and requests were promptly addressed. So, if you’re after an affordable Stone Town break – Maru Maru is a great option and delivers the perfect launch pad from where to explore this historic little place.

For centuries the island has been a centre of slave and ivory trade, if not all trading, from central Africa to the rest of the world and was the world’s main producer of the highly valued clove spice. The Portuguese were ousted with the help of Oman, in the mid- 16th Century, whose vast trade connections had been severed by the entrance of the Portuguese. Zanzibar became the seat of the Omani empire, when Sultan Seyyid Said moved his capital from Muscat to Zanzibar in 1840, due

largely to its economic importance in the empire and unrest at home. This was to last only 50 years until the British, keen on expanding their colonial reach, declared Zanzibar a British Protectorate. This, in turn, was to last until 1963, when the British handed power back to the Sultan in a constitutional monarchy which was itself overthrown in early 1964 in a violent revolution which established the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, which rules the country to this day. |

For example, if you chose networking as a strategy, your tactics might be to attend certain events each week, revise your 30-second commercial and produce marketing materials to hand out. Assign time and dollar resources for each strategy you’ve chosen. Follow your plan, regularly review progress, track the results and modify where necessary. Baked Thai Chicken Wings Ingredients

4 tbsp clear honey 1 tbsp chilli sauce, 1 garlic clove, peeled and crushed 1 tbsp freshly grated root ginger 1 lemon grass stalk, outer

Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°f/ Gas mark 5, 10 minutes before cooking.

Arrange the wings on a rack set over a tinfoil-lined roasting tin. Roast at the top of the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the wings are tender and golden, basting once or twice with the remaining marinade and turning once. Remove from the oven. Garnish the wings with lemon or lime wedges and serve immediately with the mayonnaise.
