Tanzania’s southern highlands Beyond The Bush

More often than not, Tanzania conjures imagery of safaris through golden-hued savannas in search of heart-stopping Big Five encounters and lazy beach escapes. Even the most seasoned safari-goer can tire of Tanzania’s heat and humidity, especially when days are spent tracking wildlife in an open-air safari vehicle. Few travellers know where to go beyond Tanzania’s mountains, beaches and well-worn northern and southern safari circuits. Fewer still know that this East African country has bucolic highlands characterised by tea plantations,

Life revolves at a s-l-o-w pace in Tanzania’s southern highlands. Here you can unwind in a farmstyle setting, while indulging in welcome reprieve from the heat of your safari or the busyness of city life.

trout-stocked dams and horse outrides combined with an air of the English countryside.

Welcome to Mufindi Highland Lodge, found in the cool embrace

of Tanzania’s southern highlands that are part of the East Arc Rift Valley. The lodge offers a tranquil interlude to your holiday, whether you’re looking to relax ahead of a safari or rejuvenate before you continue your adventure. Its strategic location makes it the ideal stopover for fly-in safaris between the country’s national parks – whether you’re on your way to Ruaha or Nyerere National Park in the south, Katavi National Park in the west or the Serengeti in the north. Locals, in search of peace, also prize it as the perfect mid-week or long-weekend getaway.

As you approach Mufindi, you’ll see tea pickers with baskets overflowing with emerald green leaves. They are destined for your cuppa to be enjoyed in your wooden log cabin, bundled up by the fireplace with a pageturner, or on the lodge veranda as you look out for the Livingstone’s Turaco.

Mufindi gives you the choice to be as active or relaxed as you prefer during your visit to this 2 000-acre family estate. While relaxation is undoubtedly the name of the game, the lodge also offers an array of activities to choose from, such as:

• A tour of the tea plantations: Top of your list should be a guided tour of the tea plantations with none other

than Geoff Fox – the founding patriarch of the family-run business. Expect Geoff to give you an insightful first-hand overview of Tanzania’s history of tea growing over the ages –with a few personal anecdotes thrown in for good measure.

• Guided hikes: Explore the surrounding montane rainforests during a guided hike, while keeping an eye out for monkeys swinging through the canopies. You’ll learn about the family’s efforts to protect these indigenous forests, alongside their wildlife, especially due to the efforts of Chris Fox and his team of trackers. Over the decades, the family has planted more than 3 million trees on tracts of barren land that surrounded

the estate. This means their entire operations absorb more carbon than it emits.

• Horseback riding: Book a guided horseback ride (no matter your level of experience) along scenic trails beneath a canopy of Jacarandas to the tea plantations or into the surrounding verdant valleys. This is where you can also visit the communities that form such an integral part of the family estate.

Other activities include kayaking, swimming or flyfishing in the trout-stocked dams, followed by high tea or sundowners at the water’s edge. Unless, of course, you’d rather play lawn sports (badminton, bowls or croquet)

or unwind in the secret garden.

A family legacy steeped in sustainability Mufindi Highlands Lodge is so much more than simply a place to stay or a destination. It is owned and operated (and was built) by the Fox family in 1997. Long-standing partnerships with neighbouring communities ensure a symbiotic relationship with the land and its people. They are also the main beneficiaries of the Foxes Community and Wildlife Conservation Trust.

This, too, is where Geoff and Vicky Fox have their family home in Tanzania. Much like the lodge, their home is made from non-indigenous wood sourced from the estate’s tree plantations, while the stone was mined and hand-hewn from the farm. It’s no wonder then that the lodge exudes familial warmth throughout and encompasses the Fox family’s legacy of responsible tourism.

Mufindi takes its commitment to the environment very seriously – you can see it in every aspect of their operations. The family champions a circular economy

By including Mufindi Highlands Lodge in your itinerary, you’re not merely adding another destination, you’re adding another dimension to your Tanzanian holiday.

model with the aim to minimise waste and their environmental impact, while maximising the sustainable (and circular) use of natural resources. This passion for sustainability is woven into the very fabric of Mufindi’s operations – and that of the other six Foxes Safari Camps and lodges around southern Tanzania. But perhaps this is best experienced at Mufindi, during a visit to their bountiful vegetable garden and working livestock farm.

Foxes Safari Camps sources a significant portion of their fresh produce for their entire operations – not just Mufindi Highlands Lodge – from their on-site, organic gardens, which

are run under Vicky’s watchful eye. A freshly-picked harvest is distributed across their other properties via regular flights on their airline, Safari Air Link. The same goes for the products from the farm dairy and butchery. In fact, the family has gone as far as growing and roasting Arabica coffee and macadamia nuts for their camps too.

So, you see, by including Mufindi Highlands Lodge in your itinerary, you’re not merely adding another destination, you’re adding another dimension to your Tanzanian holiday. This is the place to experience a part of Tanzania that’s often overlooked by travellers and locals alike. Let Mufindi be your refuge, before embarking on the next leg of your unforgettable safari adventure.

FLY-IN SAFARIS ACROSS TANZANIA WITH SAFARI AIR LINK

Safari Air Link is your gateway to Tanzania

What distinguishes travelling around Tanzania with Foxes Safari Camps is our family-owned and -managed airline, Safari Air Link. With a fleet of five Cessna 208 Caravans, each of which can accommodate up to 13 passengers, we are renowned for our expert crew who have extensive experience flying to remote bush airstrips.

With Safari Air Link, you can travel between Tanzania’s southern, western and northern safari circuits, as well as the coastal circuit should you wish to stay at a private island retreat. With the flexibility of dynamic scheduling with our private aircraft fleet, travellers can expect a hassle-free journey across Tanzania.

This makes planning your tailor made journey across southern Tanzania that much easier and more convenient, so that you can spend more time on safari, rather than on the road travelling between lodges and national parks. Book your flight and leave the rest up to us!

Our extensive network of routes not only connects major tourist hubs across Tanzania –such as Dar es Salaam with Zanzibar and Mafia Island –but also reaches far-flung regions that would otherwise require more time and effort to reach. Katavi National Park in southwestern Tanzania, for example, boasts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the country per kilometre squared. And with only three permanent lodges in the park, there are only ever a handful of travellers here at any given time. Meaning

you have unbeatable wildlife sightings almost all to yourself.

As with our other operations, Foxes Safari Camps has been committed to responsible tourism from the very beginning and also in everything that we do. Not only does Safari Air Link have a fuel-efficient fleet of aircraft, but our ongoing carbon offset programme has our family business plant over 3 million trees to make us a carbonnegative airline.

Your Comfort

Every effort is made to ensure that the flight is as comfortable as possible. A guide or lodge representative will meet you and drop you off from your flight, pre checking flight times and transferring luggage.

Private charters across Tanzania

The option for sole use of our aircraft and direct return flights, allows Safari Air Link to curate personalised itineraries across Tanzania no matter your bucket list.

Safety

The safety of our passengers is of utmost importance to us. All Safari Air Link planes are maintained to the highest standards and all our pilots are highly competent and

confident with handling the varied terrain of airstrips across Tanzania. Our aim is for the flight to be a highlight of your safari.

Medical evacuation

The Cessna Grand Caravan’s ability to land on gravel airstrips makes it the sole viable option for emergency evacuations from rural and remote areas across Tanzania. The aircraft’s spacious cabin can accommodate a medevac stretcher, medical equipment, medical professionals and family members. Safari Air Link also operates a Citation Mustang jet to fly patients to medical facilities outside Tanzania if needed.

Find Safari Air Link’s latest flight schedule and fares on our website www.flysal.com, contact us on: +255 777 723 274 and +255 783 397 235 or via email on flights@flysal. com to plan your African safari.

Each of the en-suite tents is elegantly furnished and fitted with all the creature comforts that guests expect of an exclusive safari.

The cosy bar area centres around a roaring log fire, opening onto a large decking area from where you can take

While the overhead thicket covers the camp in a cooler climate, the large swimming pool and palm-frond salas always awaits, especially after a sunrise game drive or guided walking safari.

Here, the animals come and go as they please. It’s the guests who need to be

accompanied by Maasai guides as they move between the camp’s elevated lookout deck and their suites after dark. Bushbaby call echoes through the night. It seems that there really is no final curtain call on a visit to Mikumi National Park. It’s a wildlife experience unmatched, where visitors can witness the full spectrum of southern Tanzania’s incredible biodiversity.

The Camp offers a wide range of activities to the guests that makes it more reliable and unique. Its strategic location

favors more activities the guests can do like: Game Drives: All game drives around the park are taken in open 4-wheel drive vehicles. The game drives are led by a trained, experienced English-speaking guide who will ensure that you get the most out of every safari you make.

• Special Occasions: From bush breakfasts to sundowners and picnic lunches in the bush. What better way to watch the sun go down than with a cool drink, overlooking the grunting

If you’re a fishing enthusiastic, Tanzania has everything you could dream of, from fly fishing in crystal clear mountain streams, trolling the flood plains and the adventure and drama of deep-sea fishing.”

Deep sea fishing in Tanzania is an experience to be savoured. The Indian Ocean is rich in fish, with tuna and pelagics migrating through the Pemba Channel every year, with snapper, grouper and sharks in residence all year round. Imagine sailing through deep blue waters, the sun on your back as you wrestle a 30kg dorado or yellow fin tuna on board.

There’s a number of private companies and tour operators

specialising in deep sea fishing to guide you through the waters, offering fishing safaris for the dedicated angler. Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia are the most popular destinations for deep sea fishing, with Dar es Salaam, Pangani and Tanga on the mainland.

For fresh water fishing, Tanzania’s lakes and rivers let you enjoy fly fishing and catch and release.

Customised boats have light and heavy tackle, electronics, GPS and safety equipment for the serious international fisherman. Excursions usually last for a day, with boats bringing you and your catch back to your hotel in time for dinner but live abroad options are also available. If you’re after an authentic Tanzanian experience, you can head out

on the water with a fisherman in a dhow or a ngalawa canoe and see how it’s done by the locals.

For fresh water fishing, Tanzania’s lakes and rivers let you enjoy fly fishing and catch and release. Mwanza, on the shores of Lake Victoria, the world’s second largest fresh water lake, is home to huge Nile Perch and Tilapia. Fishing isn’t permitted inside national parks but there are a number of lakes and rivers in the buffer zone open to anglers and even rainbow trout farms in Arusha, allowing visitors to relax into the tranquillity of the truly beautiful surroundings, watch the bird life and wildlife go by.

During the rainy season, rivers and streams swell, reviving the land and waters, teeming with fish life, perfect for a fishing safari.

LuxSE’s Mr Delestienne said the listing shows how global capital markets can support Africa’s green transition.

“It reflects the continent’s role in sustainable finance,” he noted. Mr Salum commended CRDB’s work, calling the listing “a moment of recognition” for Tanzania under President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

“It reflects our country’s commitment to climate goals,” he said.

Exploring Zanzibar at its fullest with Maru Maru hospitality

On the historic island of Zanzibar, amidst the quaint, narrow alleys of Stone Town is Maru Maru Hotel, once a townhouse now boasts 51 well-laid rooms.

Maru Maru Hotel consists of two wings – the Classic Wing with 11 rooms, which have undergone restoration, and the New Wing with 33 modern rooms built around a small courtyard with a star-shaped fountain. The courtyard is ideal for spending time quietly reading, the noise of the water in the fountain a soothing backdrop. On the way to the courtyard, there is a coffee shop which also serves freshly baked pastries and cakes just in case you want to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea whilst rewinding.

The rooms are well equipped with modern amenities, a comfortable bed in Zanzibari style, swathed in a mosquito net, which is not only essential but also creates a romantic atmosphere with the stained-

shades.

An elevator connects both wings to the rooftop terrace, which is a delightful place to be, largely because of the stunning view of the ocean, so you can witness the gentle traffic of dhows, a vista that’s barely changed in generations.

Climbing the flight of wooden stairs leading to the terrace restaurant and reflecting on the hotel’s personality, it’s evident why Maru Maru has been the

preferred property for eminent personalities like Bill Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea. And it wasn’t just the atmosphere that struck me, the scent of the place did too: the hotel smells wonderful as day-long diffusers burn perfumed essential oils.

Maru Maru serves a delightful variety of cuisines, especially Continental and Asian – quality is great and portions are generous. I especially loved the way an array of sauces was offered which you could blend with the main ingredient – poultry, meat, seafood or vegetables.

All the staff right - from the General Manager, receptionist, chefs –lead and supporting roles were super friendly and helpful. Services and requests were promptly addressed.

So, if you’re after an affordable Stone Town break – Maru Maru is a great option and delivers the perfect launch pad from where to explore this historic little place.

Tanzania World Heritage Sites

From the Heights of Kilimanjaro to Depths of Zanzibar

TANZANIA IS A COUNTRY WHICH ENCOMPASSES AN EXTRAORDINARY HISTORY AND AN ABUNDANCE OF NATURAL WONDERS; THEREFORE, IT IS NO SURPRISE TANZANIA HAS EIGHT WORLD HERITAGE SITES. THESE CHOSEN SITES ARE A FUNDAMENTAL REMINDER WHY INTERACTION BETWEEN PEOPLE AND NATURE MUST ACHIEVE A BALANCE OF PRESERVATION AND CONSERVATION BETWEEN THE TWO.”

STONETOWN, ZANZIBAR

Stone Town, or Mji Mkongwe in Swahili (meaning “ancient town”), is the oldest part of Zanzibar City. The old town is built on a triangular peninsula of land on the western coast of the island and was awarded World Heritage Site status in 2000. Justification for the inscription includes its rich cultural fusion and harmonization; its great symbolic importance in the suppression of slavery; and the intense seaborne trading activity between Asia and Africa, which is illustrated today in the exceptional architecture

and urban structure of Stone Town.

KILIMANJARO NATIONAL PARK

The Kilimanjaro National Park is located near Moshi, Tanzania. It is centered on the iconic and dramatic snow-clad slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, which covers an area of 753 km (291 square miles). In 1973, the mountain above the tree line was classified as a National Park and was opened to public access in 1977, but it wasn’t until 1987 UNESCO listed the park as a World Heritage Site.

KONDOA ROCK ART SITE

The Kondoa rock art site is a series of caves carved into the side of a hill looking out over the steppe. The cave site is nine kilometers off the main highway from Kondoa to Arusha, about 20 km north of Kondoa. The site has a spectacular collection of images from over 150 shelters depicting elongated people, animals, and hunting scenes. Today many of the shelters are still considered to have ritual associations with the

people who live nearby, reflecting their beliefs and cosmological traditions.

THE NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) boasts the finest blend of landscapes, wildlife, people and archaeological sites in Africa and is situated 180 km west of Arusha. The rich pasture and permanent water of the crater floor supports a large resident population of wildlife

of up to 25,000 predominantly grazing animals. The conservation area is administered by the NCA Authority, and its boundaries follow the boundary of the Ngorongoro Division of Ngorongoro District. It covers an area of 8,288 km (3,200 square miles).

SELOUS GAME RESERVE

The Selous Game Reserve covers a total area of 54,600 km (21,081 square miles) and is

one of largest fauna reserves of the world, located in the south of Tanzania. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to the diversity of its wildlife and undisturbed nature. The reserve is home to typical savannah animals such as elephants, hippopotami, the rare African Wild Dog and crocodiles, which are all found in larger numbers compared to any other African park.

SERENGETI

NATIONAL PARK

The Serengeti National Park is Tanzania’s oldest park, and one of the world’s last great wildlife refuges, hence its World Heritage Site status. It is most famous

for its annual migration of over one million white bearded (or brindled) wildebeest and 200,000 zebra. The park covers 14,763 km (5,700 square miles) of grassland plains and savannah as well as riverine forest and woodlands. The park lies in the north of the country, bordered to the north by the national Tanzania and Kenyan border, where it is contiguous with the Masai Mara National Reserve.

RUNS OF KILWA KISIWANI AND RUINS OF SONGO MNARA

The remains of these two great East African ports admired by early European explorers are situated on two small islands near

the coast. From the 13th to the 16th century, the merchants of Kilwa dealt in gold, silver, pearls, perfumes, Arabian crockery, Persian earthenware and Chinese porcelain; much of the trade in the Indian Ocean thus passed through their hands. Serious archaeological investigation began in the 1950s. In 1981 it was declared a World Heritage Site, and noted visitor sites are the Great Mosque, the Mkutini Palace and some remarkable ruins. However, the ruins are also on the List of World Heritage Sites in Danger. The list constitutes a call to improve their safe guarding and is designed to rally national and international efforts for their preservation.

EXIM BANK TANZANIA

Nationwide blood donation drive, boosting Tanzania’s health

sector

In a powerful display of its long-standing commitment to public health, Exim Bank Tanzania, in collaboration with National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS), has successfully conducted a nationwide blood donation drive. Spanning a total of seven (7) centers in Dar es Salaam (Exim Tower HQ & Kaburi Moja), Dodoma (Veta & Kizota), Mtwara, Kahama, and Mbeya. This vital initiative reinforces the bank’s consistent support for NBTS in addressing the country’s ongoing blood supply shortfall.

As part of this year’s effort, Exim Bank also proudly handed over a total of 110 essential medical items to NBTS. This crucial equipment is set to significantly enhance NBTS’s nationwide blood collection and storage capacity, ultimately improving the quality, safety, and availability of blood in public health facilities across Tanzania.

This crucial equipment, provided by Exim Bank, is designed to directly strengthen the NBTS ability to collect blood more effectively and efficiently

nationwide, ultimately saving more lives across Tanzania.

Speaking during the event, Kauthar D’souza, Exim Bank’s Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications, highlighted the bank’s dedication. “We are incredibly proud to champion this vital blood donation exercise, guided by our theme ‘Donate blood and save lives’. This initiative is a cornerstone of our broader ‘Exim Cares’ program, where our bank consistently engages with communities in not just health, but also education,

environmental sustainability, fostering innovation, and economic empowerment. Our enduring partnership with NBTS for over 10 years reflects our unwavering belief that every donation is a profound act, truly saving a life somewhere in Tanzania.”

On the other hand, Judith Charle, NBTS’s Head of Blood Donor Management, expressed profound gratitude for the continuous partnership. “We are incredibly grateful for Exim Bank’s consistent and unwavering

support over the years. Their partnership is crucial in helping us bridge the gap in blood supply as we believe every unit collected, every piece of equipment donated, directly translates to lives saved across Tanzania.”

The donation campaign builds on the success of previous blood drives conducted by Exim Bank in collaboration with NBTS. This year’s expanded campaign aims to reach more people and inspire greater civic responsibility among Tanzanians.

According to the Ministry of Health, Tanzania aims to collect approximately 550,000 units of blood annually to meet 100% of the country’s needs. While NBTS strives to collect 350,000 units annually, this still falls short of the overall demand. This challenge is further compounded by the fact that approximately 15% of collected blood is rendered unusable due to various factors, emphasizing the urgent need for more donations.

Beyond the health sector, Exim Bank actively supports community and government initiatives in diverse areas. These include crucial investments

in education, environmental sustainability, employment creation, and fostering innovation. A recent example of this commitment is the bank’s donation of two newly furnished classrooms to schools in Buhigwe district, Kigoma region, early this year.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CLARITY IN YOUR CAREER Powering Through the Land of Soulless Work

Look around you - are you like many of the people in the working world trudging through the land of soulless workers? People who dread going to work everyday, fear seeing their boss and feel tense meeting their clients? How do you then power yourself through the land of zombie workers? Be clear when you are at work if you are looking to differentiate Yourself from the others.

1. Get Clarity About the Task at Hand

Let’s start to be clear with the simplest of all. Have clarity of the task at hand. What is it you need to do? Some people like to make assumptions on the things they need to do. They fail to ask and clarify thinking they know it all.

2.Clarify Your Own Goals

Do you know what you want? This applies to both your work and your personal life. Some people like to blame their work for their unhappiness, not knowing the source of displeasure is from their personal life.

3.Evaluate the Challenges

What are some of the challenges

you are facing now at work? Is it a lack of skills or particular knowledge? Is it an issue with colleagues? Be clear on these challenges. How are you going to tackle them and what is your plan of action? The reason you are seeing a lot of soulless workers is because these people talk, whine and complain without being clear on what needs to be done and acting accordingly

4.Establish Mindfulness

Clarity of mind is very important. You need to be able to distinguish

things that you cannot change. What are the things you can do practically and how can you do them? There is no point trying to solve a problem that cannot be solved. Knowing whether a problem can be solved or not takes experience. How does experience come? By doing it, going through it, and failing at times. Learning always has a price, but it has even higher rewards.

6.Use Clear Speech

Whether you are taking instructions, requesting for something or giving instructions, learn to be clear in your communications at work. It is an important skill that will take you very far.

7.Act with Integrity

Act in accordance with your highest values - avoid politics, back-stabbing, and gossip at all costs. You will make more friends and less enemies, you will be able to influence others more positively, and you will rest knowing your conscience is clean and you did the best you could in every situation.

Career clarity is a crucial component of career success. It gives people direction and motivation, and it helps them make smart choices about their career paths. But getting career clarity can be hard, and people may face several problems. Career clarity can be affected by limited exposure to career options, pressures from the outside, and a lack of resources.

CREATE A BASIC BUSINESS MARKETING PLAN

SIX EASY STEPS TO SUCCESS

I KNOW WE NEED A MARKETING PLAN, BUT I’M NOT SURE WHERE TO START. AND, QUITE FRANKLY, I DON’T HAVE TIME TO STOP AND FIGURE IT OUT. THIS COMMENT MADE RECENTLY BY A CLIENT IS TYPICAL OF THE DILEMMA FACED BY MANY SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS. WE KNOW THAT WE NEED A MARKETING PLAN, BUT THE THOUGHT OF TAKING TIME TO WRITE ONE CAN SEEM OVERWHELMING.

Use the Six-Step Process Below to Create Your Basic Marketing Plan;

1.What do you sell?

Clearly define your product, including the features and benefits. Make a list of each product or service you offer, and under each one, list the corresponding benefits to the consumer.

2.To whom do you sell?

Create a detailed customer profile. If you market directly to consumers, list demographics: age, gender, lifestyle, location, preferences, interests, etc. Where do they go? What do they read? Listen to it? Watch? If you market to businesses, describe your ideal business client, including the size of the company, number of employees, gross sales, location, etc. What do they want? What concerns and challenges do they face, especially those your product addresses?

3.What are you going to tell them?

Write a marketing message directed specifically to your target customer. Focus on the

benefits (not features) you offer. Concentrate on one thing: what’s in it for them!

4.Where are you now?

You need this as a benchmark for future tracking. Make a note of current marketing activities, the costs involved and, if possible, the revenue they generate.

5.Where do you want to be and when?

Visualise your business one, two and five years from now. What will it look like? Be specific. Consider what changes will need to take place to achieve the future you want for this business.

6.How do you plan to get there?

Define specific, realistic marketing goals. Plan how you will measure the results.

· Decide which marketing strategies you will use, for example: networking, cold

calling, mailings, advertising, website, emails, & promotional events. Select two or three you could use to jump-start your marketing.

· Brainstorm the best tactics for each of the strategies you’ve selected. For example, if you choose networking as a strategy, your tactics might be to attend certain events each week, revise your 30-second commercial and produce marketing materials to hand out.

· Assign time and dollar resources for each strategy you’ve chosen.

Follow your plan, regularly review progress, track the results and modify where necessary. When something produces good results, stick with it. If it doesn’t work, stop or adapt it. By writing one step a day or one step each week, you’ll soon have a simple written marketing plan to guide you and ensure that you get the best return on your marketing dollar as you grow your company in the right direction.

Over the years, it has developed into a key gateway for trade and investment in Tanzania and neighboring landlocked countries including Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, thanks to the logistical advantages offered by the Dar es Salaam port. “INNOCENTIA LUCKY SABAS”

From modelling agency to a top fashion designer

Credit To: Fashion Association of Tanzania and Swahili fashion week

I started as a commercial model, and runway model in 2006 came up in the fashion scene from the pageant of Miss Tourism Tanzania (2006), worked hard as a model, because it was the bridge to achieving my goal of being a designer. In 2011, that was the birth of Lucky Creations. While living in the beautiful island of Zanzibar, I was inspired by the tourism market based in Zanzibar (stonetown) and the influence of the big Italian community living there.”

When the colors mix on a fabric to form bold, vibrant designs, you get a stunning African print. Tanzanian designers are not letting that opportunity pass by, they use all their imagination to create masterpieces.

They are claiming the fashion industry stage from the Swahili Fashion Week in Dar es Salaam to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in South Africa. Tanzanian designers are pushing the

boundaries with a simple “Kitenge” leaving masterpieces in their wake.

Every month Dar Life dedicates this section to young emerging and well-known designers who want to create brands and use the fashion platform as a stepping stone towards achieving their dream. This month we met Innocentia Lucky Sabas whose ideas in designing clothes and accessories are amazing, you must watch out!

Innocentia Lucky Sabas, aged 23 years old, born in Kagera Region who started as a commercial model, and runway model in 2006 came up in the fashion scene from the pageant of Miss Tourism Tanzania (2006). She worked hard as a model, because it was her bridge to achieve her goal of being a designer.

In 2011, that marked the birth of Lucky Creations when living in Zanzibar and was inspired with the tourism market based

The name LUCKY was actually originated from my middle name Lucky (BAHATI) and since all that I’m into is creating different looks, etc. I choose to call it LUCKY CREATIONS. My duty is to sketch from just an idea to an actual attire, sourcing for fabrics, styling, stitching and making patterns, working hand in hand with my team and tailors. My duty is to make sure lucky creations do what every unique fashion brand offers society.

in Zanzibar’s Stone town and the influence of the big Italian community living there.

Lucky Creations has showcased in many fashion events within Tanzania and abroad such as Russia and Africa. SHE has also been participating in giving back to society through fashion when she organized a fashion event to raise awareness of the health of mother and child campaigns.

Over the years Lucky creations has scored hearts of many fashion

lovers in and out of Tanzania. She is an award-winning designer having won the Swahili fashion week award for best upcoming designer of year 2012.

Today, Lucky Sabas is truly a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry because her Goal is to make her brand not a trending brand but a brand that will last for generations to come. Her designs are mostly based on the aesthetics of simplicity with a touch of class and elegance.
