Access Bank Tanzania officially launched Vimba na 13.5%, a deposit campaign to help customers grow their finances through a press conference. The campaign marks the beginning of empowering customers to make better and growth-oriented financial decisions.
THE 2026 KILIMANJARO MARATHON
The 2026 Kilimanjaro Marathon, held on March 22, was a massive success, bringing together thousands of local and international runners in Moshi despite rainy conditions. The 24th edition highlighted East African talent, with Tanzanians dominating the 21km Half Marathon—Michael Geay (1:04:10) and Hamida Musa winning—while Kenyans swept the 42km Full Marathon. The event attracted thousands of runners from 51 nationalities, cementing its role in boosting local tourism and economy. As part of the “Yas Green for Kili” initiative, organizers committed to planting over 50,000 trees in the Kilimanjaro region this year. The Tanzanian government pledged TSh 100 million in prize funding for future editions to further elevate the race’s status.
AIR TANZANIA
Air Tanzania is set to increase its Dar es Salaam - Mumbai service to daily operations from 1 June 2026, up from the current four flights per week. The expanded schedule will see flights depart Dar es Salaam at 20:20, arriving in Mumbai at 04:20 the following morning, offering greater flexibility for both business and leisure travelers on the route. The move strengthens air connectivity between Tanzania and India, reflecting growing demand between the two markets. The upgrade from four weekly frequencies to a daily service signals increased confidence in the route’s commercial potential and is expected to support broader trade and tourism ties between East Africa and the Indian subcontinent.

• Green Turtle Breeding Site: The green turtle has one of the most substantial breeding populations in Madete Beach. Green turtle females lay their eggs along the shore before heading back into the water.
• Zaraninge Forest: It is a lowland coastal forest with a closed canopy that is evergreen. Some endemic,
uncommon, and threatened plant and animal species have been found in Zaraninge.

• Game Drive: Remarkable wildlife awaits you at Saadani National Park: a dozen species of antelope, monkeys, warthogs, majestic elephants, elegant giraffes, imposing buffalo, and even lions on the loose.
• Guided Nature Walks: This is an amazing activity that allows visitors to explore the park on foot with the company of an armed game ranger who is well conversant with walking trails.
• Wami River Boat Safari: Cruise the Wami River in a guided boat safari! Travel down the river and into the estuary while enjoying birdlife as well as hippos, crocodiles, and the beautiful black and white colobus monkeys.
• Mafui Sandbank: At the Mafui Sandbank, visitors can go snorkelling or scuba diving to explore colorful coral reefs.
• Saadani Fishing Village Historical Tour: Visit Saadani fishing village, which lies within the reserve, where a collection of ruins pays testament to its 19th century heyday as a major trading port. Saadani Village Slave buildings ruins is a site where slaves were held temporarily before they were shipped.
Getting There
Domestic flights are available from Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar (a quick 15-minute flight) via carriers like Safari Air Link and Auric Air By Car it is a 4-hour drive from Dar es Salaam to Saadani via Chalinze and 3 hours via Bagamoyo.
When To Go
Saadani National Park is accessible all-year round, but
the access roads are sometimes impassable during April and May. The best game-viewing is in January and February and from June to August.

In Arusha National Park, the majestic Mount Meru awaits, ready to be tamed on foot! The exhilaration of reaching the top only increases with Mount Kilimanjaro revealing its snowy peak to the East. Arusha National Park gives you the opportunity to explore nature at its closest. There are good trekking facilities along the climbing route. The route passes through diverse habitats: swamps, open plains, montane forests and volcanoes, all packed within a distance of 35 km.
The most striking landmarks are Mount Meru and the Ngurdoto caldera, formed after volcanic eruptions between 1 and 3 million years ago. Mount Meru hasn’t put on a show in over a century, but 6,000 years ago a huge explosion blew away the eastern edge, causing a massive landslide. It is also how the mesmerizing north-eastern Momela Lakes were born. Due to different levels of alkalinity, each of these seven lakes boasts its own spectacular greenish-blue tone. The water is dotted pink with lesser and greater flamingos, while every now and then you might meet the eyes of a hippopotamus. The extinct Ngurdoto volcano in the east is home to a mini Ngorongoro. Looking down from the crater rim you see montane forests – keep an eye open for the majestic Fig Tree Arch – while an open, swampy bottom spreads out below it, at an altitude of around 1,470 metres.

The entire park is full of life. You will encounter herds of buffalos (the park’s most abundand species), zebra and giraffe often, but warthog, waterbuck, pairs of dik-dik and reedbuck are also frequent sights. Other mammals roaming the area are the elusive aardvark, the bush pig and the crested porcupine. The low braying call of the silvery-cheeked hornbill regularly penetrates the silence, just as the harsh rhythmic cry of the endangered black and white colobus monkey. And this is not the only acrobat in the dense forest; there are also plenty of vervet monkeys, blue monkeys and olive baboons to be seen. The well-trained spotter’s
eye will be treated to almost 450 bird species. Although you won’t hear the ferocious roar of a lion very often – the last temporary visit took place in the late 1990’s – other big cats can be sited. Keep an eye open for spotted hyena, wild cat, leopard and, on the slopes of Mount Meru, even a wandering elephant.

But it’s the feeling of solitude that might just be the best asset of Arusha National Park. Even being hemmed in by human settlements, Arusha Park is the quietest amongst the six bestknown parks in northern Tanzania.
Walking up Meru: a spectacular four-day trek
- Day 1: a 10 km trek from Momela to Miriakamba that takes about 5 hours (ascent 1,014 metres)
- Day 2: a 4 km trek to Saddle hut that takes about 5 hours (ascent 1,056 meters)
- Day 3: Rest day
NOTE: don’t forget to look down every now and then for two very local species of chameleons. The conspicuous three-horned Jackson’s chameleon –frequently seen around Miriakamba Hut – and the Ruwenzori side-striped chameleon, which might reveal itself around Saddle Hut.
•Arusha National Park is the second oldest park in Tanzania together with Lake Manyara. It was established in 196o.
•It’s one of the smallest national parks: with its 542 km2 (and only 35 km from east to west) it’s 4% of the size of the Serengeti. The most recent enlargement took place in 2005: land was added on almost all sides and the area almost quadrupled.
•Height: from 1,450 metres (Momela Lakes) to 4,566 metres (summit of Mt Meru). The entrance gates and major park roads lay at around 1,500 metres.
•The park is easily accessible by road, a 35 km drive from Arusha town.

The climb of Tanzania’s second highest mountain starts in the wooded savannah roamed by buffalos and giraffes. Between an elevation of 1,500 en 3,300 metres you are surrounded by montane forests full of birds and monkeys. From here up to 3,900 metres giant heathers dominate the terrain. You conquer the final metres to the summit in a barren alpine zone and an upland desert.

Only a handful of adventurous souls ever make it to Katavi. Those who do are treated to a mesmerizing experience.
Tanzania’s third largest national park, Katavi is a legendary wilderness: remote, free and undisturbed. The sheer number of animals on show is mindboggling, in quantity and variety.

Katavi is one of the few parks with the highest biodiversity in Africa. Your view changes from seasonally flooded grassland plains to the steep escarpments of the Rukwa Rift Valley. Yet the park is dominated by miombo savannah in its purest form. The large herds of antelope feel particularly at home; even the more elusive species. Katavi is one of only two parks home to both sable and roan antelope; the latter easier to spot than anywhere else.
If you’re looking for the ultimate spot to tick your game-viewing boxes, head straight to the Katuma River and her floodplains, including the seasonal Lakes Katavi and Chada. Their appearance differs greatly between the wet and dry season. During the rains the grass grows up meters into the air, turning the barren grounds into seemingly endless green sheets. Waterbirds appear in abundance alongside the lakes. But it’s during the dry season that game-viewing becomes truly overwhelming. The drier it gets, the more animals find their way to Katavi’s remaining sources of drinking water.

Buffalo, elephant and zebra are the most abundant. Each population boasts thousands and thousands of individuals; herds of buffalo often triple the size one would find in the Serengeti. Add to that a great number of giraffe and other large mammals. All of them on the lookout for roaming lion prides, spotted hyena, cheetah, leopards and wild dog, excitedly working up an appetite all round them.

Katavi’s many pools boast Tanzania’s densest concentrations of hippo and crocodile. Especially in the dry season they flop together in the last remaining puddles, leading to spectacular territorial bouts. And beware of one of the most thrilling residents of the wooded savannah: the black mamba, the most poisonous snake on the continent that grows up to a dazzling 4 metres. The remoteness means animals aren’t so used to humans and vehicles as they might be in more popular national parks. Katavi offers you a real sense of venturing into the wild, making the park even more special.

Ruaha National Park
Ruaha combines the untrammelled wilderness of Katavi with the jaw-dropping vastness and wildlife of Serengeti and Tarangire. In the largest national park of East Africa your safari begins the moment the airstrip comes into sight, the pilot deftly maneuvering past the giraffe and zebra roaming around.
Flowing across the base of the Rift Valley at an altitude of almost 1,000m, the great river that gives Ruaha its name is also its life artery. While the waters turn wild during the torrential rains at the peak of the wet season, the floods subside, calming down into tranquil pools. Where there is water there is life, and the fine network of game viewing trails follows the main river and seasonal tributaries.

With the vast savannah dotted with mighty baobabs, hills and rocky outcrops and its river valleys full of palm trees, the park is exceptionally beautiful.
Your safari begins the moment the airstrip comes into sight
Almost the entire cast of the Tanzanian savannah show is to be seen, with the antelope as the undisputed star. Since Ruaha combines acacia savannah of East Africa and the miombo woodland of Southern Africa, there is an unusually high diversity of this elegant species. Fans of the greater kudu are in the right place. Nowhere else is the population flourishing as it is here. And Ruaha is one of only two parks home to both roan and sable antelope; the latter easier to spot than anywhere else.
Unfortunately for these humble herbivores, they always need to be on their guard, with a hungry carnivore never far away. Lions are especially numerous, although their favourite meal – wildebeest – is scarce. Even wild dogs are found in Ruaha, one of the most important refuge for this highly endangered species.
Since the park had three different types of habitats within its boundaries – tree and scrub savannah, miombo savannah and wetlands – the avifauna is remarkably rich. With over 550 bird species, even a short morning walk will be extremely rewarding. And don’t forget to look down, or you might miss the chance to spot both species of monitor lizard: the Nile monitor and the more elusive white-throated savannah monitor.

Advancing women’s leadership under Tanzania’s Dira 2050
The Citizen Rising Woman Initiative 2026 stands as a powerful testament to the impact of intentional investment in women, firmly anchored in Tanzania’s Dira 2050, the country’s long-term vision for inclusive economic transformation. Under the theme “Give to Gain,” this year’s campaign reinforced a critical national truth: Tanzania’s future growth depends on how effectively it empowers and integrates women into its economic and leadership landscape.
Organized by Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) under its flagship brand The Citizen, Rising Woman has evolved into one of Tanzania’s most influential platforms for advancing gender equality. What began six years ago as a conversation about opportunity has grown into a national movement, one that not only celebrates women but actively shapes policy conversations, business practices, and societal mindsets.
The 2026 edition marked a significant shift from advocacy to action. It aligned deliberately with Tanzania’s Dira 2050, positioning women at the center of the country’s economic future. This alignment was further reinforced by national leadership.
Throughout February and March, the campaign reached
unprecedented scale and impact. Leveraging the power of media, storytelling, and stakeholder engagement, Rising Woman 2026 reached over 24 million people digitally, amplifying voices and narratives that continue to reshape perceptions around women’s leadership. More than 60 women were profiled in The Citizen, sharing powerful stories of resilience, innovation, and transformation across industries. The campaign culminated
in a high-level event in Dar es Salaam, bringing together over 600 attendees, including policymakers, business leaders, development partners, and grassroots changemakers. The gathering served not only as a celebration but as a call to action, challenging institutions and individuals alike to accelerate women’s participation in national development.
A key highlight of the initiative was the recognition of 10 outstanding organizations that have demonstrated strong commitment to advancing gender equality and empowering women within their structures and communities. In the Woman of the Future category, Vodacom Tanzania, CRDB Bank, Airtel Tanzania, Orica Tanzania Limited, and Watu Credit were honored for their forward-looking initiatives and inclusive policies. Meanwhile, the Rising Woman category recognized ABSA Bank Tanzania, Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML), AfyaFix Nutrition Health Organization, CCBRT Hospital, and Adilisha for their
impactful contributions to women’s empowerment.
These recognitions reflect a growing shift within Tanzania’s private and development sectors, where gender inclusion is increasingly seen not as a corporate responsibility alone, but as a strategic driver of growth and innovation.

Audiences from across East Africa and beyond united in celebration, enjoying an eclectic and vibrant program of live music from the African continent and the diaspora. Sauti za Busara has once again proven that there is a huge demand for diverse musical expressions from across Africa.
Sauti za Busara 2026 has officially come to a close, marking another extraordinary chapter in Zanzibar’s celebration of African music and culture. This year’s edition brought together artists and audiences from across the continent for four unforgettable days filled with rhythm, inspiration, and shared humanity.
The spirit of unity shone brighter than ever. Thousands gathered in Stone Town to dance, connect, and celebrate Africa’s powerful musical tapestry - demonstrating once again that music can heal, uplift, and bring people together even in difficult times.
