Design with an emphasis on Nature
Dara Howlett has a keen interest in the natural world. Her work often embodies the everyday observations and translates this through design to create bespoke pieces, with natural life at the centerfold.
Dara constantly observes the world, and questions its decissions, her fasination with this has led to its reflection through her work.
Dara Howlett Designer. Thinker. Maker.O riginating from Co. Dublin, Ireland, Dara is inspired by elements of the natural world, this often comes across strongly in her work. Her mission is to create pieces which put human needs at the center, while maintaining an artistic approach.
W ith an eye for detail and a constant thrive for better, Dara has allowed herself to be emersed into the design world with high levels of ambition and determination.
H er work with many textiles and disciplines have allowed her to produce some really unique and interesting pieces, throughout her short career to date. Designing furniture to enhance the space and increase belonging environments is a key philosophy in her work. Her work has focused around elements of the natural world, and incorporating elements of nature, with manmade elements. This is shown in her piece “a seat to nature” where branches were used alongside timber to create the balance between humans and nature and providing a restful seat to recuperate and ease the mind, the idea that a rocking chair embodies.
D ara began her woodwork career studying construction, where she found her love of working with wood but sought after a more creative outlet. She progressed to study Furniture Design and Manufacturing in Dun Laoghaire where in her first year she competed in the Ireland Skill Competition, as the first female in the Cabinet Making section. She completed in the final and was awarded top 6 in Ireland that year.
D ara completed two years in Dun Laoghaire before progressing onto Letterfrack to complete a level 8 in Furniture Design and Manufacturing where she will graduate from in 2021. Dara has always found the world fascinating and is always eager to learn more, her love of nature and information will continue to be displayed through her work as she progresses through her career.
