I

have been a REALTOR Member of the Downey Association of REALTORS (DAOR) for years. As time passed I wondered how members got on a committee and what they had to do to work their way up the ladder to get on the Board of Directors and ultimately become President.

I started by attending the DAOR Membership Luncheon Events because it was and still is a great opportunity to meet your fellow REALTORS, plus, the speakers are always really informative.

At one of these luncheons I asked Jeanette about the committees and how to get involved, and that was it - I then served on YPN! Now in 2017, I will be serving on the YPN and the Grievance Committee. I would like to get as much experience serving on DAOR Committees because

look out DAOR Members, I have Board of Directors and even the presidency in my sights.

I encourage anyone to serve on a DAOR Committee !

ast Fall, I saw a flyer from the DAOR, informing members about serving on a Committee. At the same time on Facebook I saw all these posts about the Young Professionals Network, so I emailed DAOR and asked to be on YPN. It was my first time serving on a Committee.

For 2017, I am humbly honored

to have been chosen to serve as the YPN Chairperson. Especially since we will no longer be a small committee, YPN will now be an advisory committee consisting of any REALTOR or Affiliate that wishes to participate.

We will be focusing on the four cores of YPN: Taking Charge learning the REALTOR Structure; Making Change - being responsible for our knowledge of policy and legislation; Being Connected connecting with the REALTORS as a whole; and It’s Your Community Let’s show the Community and the entire DAOR that YPN members care.

am glad I served on the scholarship committee. It was fun meeting new people and committee members.

I am passionate about higher education, so I felt privileged to work together with my fellow committee members in selecting the students who would receive the scholarships that would help them pursue their dreams of a higher education.

Overall I feel that the Downey Association of REALTORS does a tremendous job in providing opportunities for its members to get involved in a variety of committees.

I would encourage DAOR members to get involved and find a committee that speaks to you. You’ll have fun, interacting with interesting people, and be able to provide a great service to others.

Downey Association of REALTORS Strategic Plan 2017 - 2020

The Leadership of the Downey Association of REALTORS DAOR have met to update the strategic plan that guides the organization to reach its goals. The strategic plan was adjusted to guide us in giving even more products and services, and opportunities to get to know the leaders, and learn how to become a leader.

• Increase member benefits and service offerings • Provide speakers & events most desired and beneficial • DAOR.com to be a “one source” website • Focus on quality growth as much as quantity growth • Maintain a reality of relevance, efficiency, supportiveness, professionalism, and a place of information, emphasizing on community and service.

• Maintain productive and lasting relationship with member brokers, agents and affiliates

The strategic plan is divided into six core developments, Membership, Community, Advocacy, Education, Professional Development and Organizational Excellence.

Core of COMMUNITY OUTREACH DAOR to create and support a meaning-ful relationship between DAOR and the Community.

Providing to the community market statistics and issues, and education on the importance of using a REALTOR.

Core of MEMBERSHIP DAOR to be the most reliable and accessible source of information to their membership. Remain relevant and “Earn their membership”.

A Final Message from 2016 President Carrie Uva Wow, I can’t believe my year as President is almost over. It has been a great pleasure to serve as your 2016 President. I have truly enjoyed every moment, every event and all the wonderful people I have met during this past year.

A year ago when I was installed as President I talked about the importance of REALTORS contributing to the Realtor Action Fund.

I am happy to say we had 6 offices who had 100% contribution, 9 brand new members that contributed $499 or more thus becoming California Silver Bears, and DAOR reached its goal of 18% of its members contributing to the fund.

Thank you to all who contributed.

I would like to thank Jeannette Baumann for being the best AE to work with.

Jeanette is truly an amazing person, She gives Downey Association 125% of herself and surely made my job so much easier.

I would also like to thank the DAOR Staff for all their help and support during this past year. Julie, you sure made it easy for me to teach the monthly ethics class. I really appreciate the staff’s hard work during the year and

enjoyed getting to know all of you and working with you.

Now, for my wonderful Board of Directors, you all did an amazing job this year.

Each and every one of you are amazing and contibuted many wonderful ideas and thoughts at our Board of Director meetings and events.

Next, I would like to thank my brokers Mel and Rita Berdelis of 24 Hour Real Estate for their support this year. I know that this year kept me away from office meetings and office events, yet you always were so supportive of my participation in the Association.

And lastly Vicky Spearman and the 24 Hour Staff, thank you for helping me out on those many occasions when I had to travel for CAR and NAR. You all did an amazing job of keeping my business going.

Now, For next year, I want to wish Mario Acevedo the best of luck in 2017. Having traveled with Mario for the past 3 years, I know he will do a fantastic job as your president.

Again, thank you for allowing me to serve as your president in 2016. It has truly been a humbling and rewarding experience.

A Message From

Executive Vice President Jeanette Baumann be turned into a one-on-one computer lab where members can come in for hands-on computer training, as well as a Membership Department where new members will come in to join. We are hoping to finish construction

by April, 2017.

2016 was an amazing year for DAOR in regards to growth in more ways than one.

We are ending the year with a 9% increase in Membership, and for the first time since 1949 DAOR, the Corporation, purchased real property doubling the real estate square footage of the Association Headquarters.

In August we closed escrow on 12067 & 12065 Paramount Blvd, the building right next door to our existing office (north). The plans for DAOR’s expansion include for the new building to house our new modernized auditorium, with 30% more capacity and upgraded technology.

The new building will also include 3 to 4 executive suites and 1 office suite that DAOR will be leasing to offset the expenses of the new building.

We have started construction by adding a new roof to the building, removing the old playground expanding our back parking lot, and installing new windows, doors, stucco and paint to the front of the building. The current auditorium at 12073 Paramount will

This Event will be free to the first 200 renewed members who have reserved a seat. The speaker will be amazing, Chris Voss, Former International Kidnapping Negotiator for the FBI. His book “Never Split the Difference: Negotiating as if Your Life Depended on it” will be available to purchase and to be signed.

In February, we will also be holding our annual Rev-It-Up Event, at the Downey Theatre.

Steve Garvey, baseball legend will be there to share his story and take a photo with you.

Also At Rev-It-Up, DAOR will be announcing, and congratulating the top listing and selling agents, teams, and production offices of 2016.

This event is free, and tickets will be available to any-one who would like to attend, DAOR Members are encouraged to attend, and may bring coworkers with them, member or not.

The DAOR Leadership has been busy evaluating the image we present to our members,non-members and to the public. A revamping of our logo is coming, and will be showcased at the Rev-It-Up Event.

Once again, DAOR will provide free to their members ShowingTime, MLS-Touch, Monthly Market Updates, and free Listing Videos.

Members in 2017 may download the amazing product TaxBot for FREE. TaxBot instantly stores receipts, tracks mileages and expenses with instant access to expert tax advise.
