The Greater Downey Association of REALTORS® (DAOR) celebrated their 71st Installation Dinner/Dance on November 10th, 2017.

Ericka Saenz was installed as Greater DAOR’s 2018 president.

As a part of Greater DAOR tradition, the immediate past president Mario Acevedo handed over the presidential gavel to our new 2018 leader.

Ericka is very excited to serve as Greater DAOR’s 2018 president!

Ericka plans on doing many great things for the REALTOR community and has served on many Greater DAOR committees in the past. Her willingness and determination to serve is much appreciated by DAOR’s Board of Directors and staff.

As 2017 comes to an end, I am proud to be counted as a member of the Grievance Committee and the Community Relations Committee. I joined the two committees in order to learn more about the Greater DAOR programs and member benefits. I wanted to ensure my firm, 24 Hour Real Estate, was represented in the Greater DAOR and community as I worked to build my professional network. I learned a lot about C.A.R. and Greater DAOR codes while discussing violations brought against members. However, my favorite memory is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to hang drywall in low income housing units here in Downey 90242.

I look forward to serving again in the coming year and encourage other new members to get involved as you work to build your business.

When I first joined Greater DAOR I wanted to get involved somehow. I was approached

by Jeanette and she mentioned how there was an opening for the scholarship committee. I jumped at the opportunity. Once I received the sign up sheet for other openings I saw how there was still room for the community relations committee. For the 2017 year, I sat at both chairs. These two experiences were superb. When you are a part of any type of committee you get to meet many other people and discuss ideas that will help people outside of that room. And we did just that! I would recommend anyone to get involved. I know I will be staying involved as much as possible. Thank you Greater DAOR!

I have a great passion for helping others so I was thankful to have been invited to join the Grievance Committee this past year. I feel being on this committee is an important role to in the Real Estate industry and I would encourage all Greater DOAR to atleast experience this once, I am looking forward to joining for another year.

Strategic Plan 2018- 2020

The Leadership of the Greater Downey Association of REALTORS (DAOR) have met to update the strategic plan that guides the organization to reach its goals. The strategic plan was adjusted to guide us in giving even more products and services, and opportunities to get to know the leaders, and learn how to become a leader.

The strategic plan is divided into six core developments, Membership, Community Involvement, Advocacy Advancement, Education, Professional Development and Organizational Excellence.

A FINAL MESSAGE FROM 2017 PRESIDENT FROM MARIO ACEVEDO

I Just wanted to take some time to thank the Greater DAOR Board of Directors and membership for allowing me to serve as its 2017 President. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to serve as your leader. I want to share some accomplishments this past year.

Continued growth of membership, we have reached 3,000 members! There is strength in numbers and as we continue to grow, we will better serve our REALTOR members.

Realtor Action Fund (RAF) contributions are higher than ever and we met C.A.R.’s contribution percentage as an association. This is important as it gives REALTORS a voice in the political arena.

We have continued awareness of the real estate industry changes. Our association does a great job of keeping its membership informed about changes taking place in the real estate world.

Thigs like the disruptors that continue to come into our industry and State and national legislation that is harmful

to real estate ownership.

On a personal note, my growth and knowledge has raised me to new levels.

Trips to Washington, Chicago, Sacramento, and other conventions put me in contact with local and national leaders as well as other REALTORS. The common issues we deal with are the same: low inventory. Housing affordability and negative tax reform or bills.

The success we had this year were largely do to your hard work and commitment to the goals of Greater DAOR. Thank you staff at Greater DAOR: Jeanette, Julie, Nelly, Violet, Andrew, Susie and Amanda. 2017 was a great year for Greater DAOR, our membership grew from 2648 to 2981.... with 55% not physically in the city of Downey our name change to “Greater” plays a huge part in our vision and anticipated growth. The current leaders of Greater DAOR are driven, fostering creativity and transparency.

When Greater DAOR recognizes their top ten offices, teams and REALTORS, we will also be recognizing the top office in cities where Greater DAOR has a majority of

members; you will see all of this come about at the Rev-It-Up event in February.

There is nothing more important to the real estate professional than political knowledge and activity - this is why the YPN committee has changed their focus, will sunset, and now be the RAPP Committee, “REALTORS Advocating for Progressive Politics,” this committee will be open to anyone who would like to participate helping spread the word of the REALTOR’S place in politics.

Proposition 90 is an extension of the

original Proposition 60 program. Proposition 90 allows senior homeowners to transfer their property tax base to a home in a different county so long as that county accepts such transfers. (At last count, only 11 counties are accepting transfers from other counties.)

Propositions 60 and 90 are relatively limited. That’s where C.A.R.’s property tax base portability initiative comes in.

How will the initiative work?

C.A.R.’s Portability Initiative would allow homeowners 55 years of age or older to transfer some of their Proposition 13 property tax base to a home of any price, located anywhere in the state, any number of times.

What’s next?

C.A.R. is in the process of hiring a campaign firm to qualify the initiative for the November 2018 general election ballot. In the meantime, C.A.R. will be asking members to help collect signatures on petitions to qualify the initiative. You will receive more information about this effort in the coming week.
