About the performance
New Old is a solo performance by and with Alma Söderberg that brings her back to the roots of her artistic practice—sitting on a chair and exploring rhythm, voice, and movement.
This is a work that begins in quiet listening and grows through sound, gesture, and thought, flowing seamlessly between music and movement, and between dance and contemplation. It’s a performance that breathes, listens, and pulses with life.
Intimate and deeply personal, New Old ventures into private, unexpected places. Alma touches on themes like the fear of losing control, the mouth-like qualities of the vulva, the complex experience of feeling like two people at once, and the surprisingly musical resonance of the word “pussy” across languages.
As New Old moves between inner and outer worlds, it releases bursts of sound that rise into the air, landing softly as melodic phrases, floating just above the audience.
About the Choreographer
Alma Söderberg, a celebrated choreographer and performer, uses her voice and body to craft each space as if it were her instrument. Her ongoing research explores the interplay between seeing and listening, between eye and ear. Having grounded her practice in numerous solo performances, Alma has developed a unique, idiorhythmic approach that merges music, dance, and thought.
She also collaborates in the music projects wowawiwa and John the Houseband with fellow artists, creating rich, layered sonic landscapes with sound artist Hendrik Willekens.
Alma Söderberg is the recipient of the Thalia Prize and has been awarded the prestigious Cullberg scholarship.
