The design of our boots is informed by experience, both ours and yours. We design boots to overcome the challenges we face in real life, and meld our 90-year legacy in the outdoors with modern technologies to meet your needs, today.

We honor our past while looking to the future, designing heritage-inspired boots with cutting-edge performance—boots that last longer, perform better, and are more durable than the competition. We call this Performance Heritage.

PREMIUM MATERIALS QUALITY BOOTS START WITH QUALITY MATERIALS. Nothing short of the best materials are up to the Danner Standard—because you rely on our boots. Take our leather: each hide is hand-inspected, and must pass five tests to ensure that only the best makes it to the boots on your feet.

The Danner Standard likewise extends beyond the walls of our factories. It is our guiding principle for sourcing materials and building relationships. In the 1960’s, we began our long-standing partnership with Vibram®, producers of the highest-quality soles on the planet. Later, in the 1970s, we collaborated with GORE-TEX® to pioneer the use of its revolutionary technology in footwear. These partnerships endure to this day and fuel our mission to craft the highest quality boots possible.

ENGINEERING WHERE OUR BOOTS COME TO LIFE. It’s a long journey from the design table to your feet. Not every concept makes it that far, but those that do, come to life in the Nest. The Nest is a laboratory of sorts, a remarkable array of machines and materials that sits within the Danner factory.

Here, ideas jump from the screen and become reality at the hands of skilled craftspeople with decades of experience. A sketch is transformed into a full boot prototype, before it is disassembled, analyzed, revised and rebuilt.

This cycle continues, again, and again and again. Until it's lighter and stronger. Until it fits better and is more durable. Until it’s up to the Danner Standard.

LAB TESTING RE-CREATING OUT THERE, IN HERE. It’s impossible to re-create nature—but the Danner Standard demands that we must try.

In a lab that overlooks the factory floor, we imagine the furthest reaches of human ability.

Here, we control chaos. We fully submerge boots in water, and with a razor-sharp eye, we observe a single bubble escaping from a GORE-TEX® liner. It is rejected. We flex boots thousands of times: decades of hikes compressed into a single day. We test in mild conditions and in chambers built to mimic the arctic cold. We test new boots in development as well as well-worn boots that have been used for years.

We test, so you can trust.

FIELD TESTING PUSHED TO THEIR LIMITS, SO YOU CAN PUSH YOURS. The Danner Standard calls for four months of field testing with real people. Contractors, photographers, search and rescue crews, tire specialists, and our own dedicated workers in the Danner factory. People like you.

We ask them not to hold back, and they can put a year’s worth of normal wear in a third of the time. We make sure our boots are pushed to their limits so you can rely on them when you are pushing yours.

Once our testers have done their worst, the boots are brought back to the Nest, where they’re torn down and analyzed, piece by piece. We look for ways to improve them.

And then, the whole process starts over. The Danner Standard is not a fixed goal, but a mindset to build the best boots possible and find ways to make the next ones even better.

MANUFACTURING THE SAME STANDARD, ACROSS THE GLOBE. Building our boots to the Danner Standard means searching far and wide. We scour the globe for the ideal materials, processes and people to craft our boots.

For certain styles, like our heritage leather boots, that means crafting them by hand with stitchdown construction, right here in Portland, Oregon. For others, including our cement-down styles infused with the latest technology and built from lightweight technical materials, the best boots are made with our carefully vetted partners overseas. No matter where or how they’re made, you can trust we make them that way because it’s the best way possible. That’s the Danner Standard guarantee.
