the P(ATH)LACE
by Daniel Yi
P(ATH)lace began as an exploration into the practices of adaptive reuse and its role in place-making. The concept of what makes a “place” extends beyond traditional architectrual design, as it recognizes the success of the building is closely tied to the surrounding context and that the design of public spaces has a signficant impact on the quality of life for the people who use them. Utilizing the parameters of Ted Relph’s 5 Elements of the City, the P(ATH)lace attempts to emphasize the elements of Path, Edge, District, Node, and Landmark, using Broadway street as an existing location for repurposing.
