THE LATEST ON THE COLONIAL LAKE RENOVATIONS Construction on Colonial Lake began on Monday, Jan. 19. The contractor, Wildwood Landscape Contractors, has been working diligently and there’s plenty of progress to report.

A mid-20th century cement repair that was incompatible with the underlying tabby wall has now been removed from 75 percent of the seawall around the lake, and 100 percent of the seawall cap has been removed. The century-old brick arch drainage pipe under Ashley Avenue that provided the connection to the Ashley River is in the process of being reinforced.

Next steps will be to install the water control structure that will allow for tidal management of the water levels in the lake and then the 30-inch pipe that will allow for an additional drainage inlet along Ashley Avenue can be installed.

The park is closed for the duration of the construction but there are plenty of nearby parks perfect for running, playing with the kids or walking the dog.
