A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHIEF SCIENCE OFFICER
GAMEBOY C911G ET NALF NXM2267541
Vytelle is proud to issue the 2025 installment of our Top 150 Proven Bulls. This annual event provides a great opportunity to recognize not only these animals, but also the breeding programs from which they are derived, the breeders that are effectively leveraging Vytelle SENSETM technologies to drive genetic gain for residual feed intake (RFI), and the Vytelle colleague’s whose commitment and expertise is reflected in the information reported here.
There are a number of changes that have been made to our genetic evaluation in producing this year’s list that help to make this the most accurate and powerful ranking Vytelle has ever produced.
• Transition to a single-step based genetic evaluation that supports the inclusion of genotypes to generate higher accuracy genomic-enhanced EPD; and,
• Modifying the model(s) to improve the effectiveness of adjustments for breed effects, sex, age at start of the trial, and definition of contemporary groups.
These changes represent some great work by our team, in particular Dr. Dinesh Thekkoot, Senior Quantitative Geneticist, and close collaboration with our R&D Advisory Board to review and endorse the proposed methods.
The new genetic evaluation models and methods allow us to describe more of the underlying genetic variation and deliver higher accuracy EPD to our customers, while also unlocking opportunities to include genomic data in more animals moving forward. While we do observe some changes in how animals rank when using EPD from the new evaluation, these are the best EPD that Vytelle has ever reported and reflect the most accurate EPD available for multi-breed animal evaluations for RFI in the world.
This year’s list of the Top 150 includes bulls with 1 to 275 tested progeny representing 30 breed groups and 32 different network partners. When compared to last year’s list, we have 133 bulls that are recognized again in this year’s Top 150. Of the bulls in this edition, 61 were phenotyped with Vytelle SENSE and 16 have a genotype on file.
We hope you enjoy this year’s edition of our Top 150, and I want congratulate those breeders that are herein recognized for excellence in producing some of the most feed efficient genetics in the world.

INTERPRETING RFI EPDS
The figure below represents the range of residual feed intake (RFI) EPD in the Vytelle SENSE genetic evaluation. Calculated EPD are based on phenotypic RFI, available pedigree and genotypic data, and progeny records. Lesser RFI EPD are generally more desirable and represent animals that are more feed efficient. For example, the progeny of a bull with an RFI EPD of -1.0 lb would be expected to consume 1 lb less feed per day than the progeny of a bull with an RFI EPD of 0.

The Rantířov estate is a farm in Central Europe with several hundred years of history. The Šašek family has been farming here for almost a century and has been breeding Angus cattle since 1993. We currently rear 100 black dams and supply breeding material to neighbouring countries, as well as to Western Europe and Central Asia.
We have gone through a phase of competition with continental breeds for growth characteristics and also the current phenomenon of breeding for high marbling. However, we still bear in mind that Angus is a breed dominated by breeding economics and this is where feed efficiency plays a key role. That’s why two years ago we acquired the Vytelle Sense system, which allows us to test all heifers and bulls born in our herd between weaning and sale, so that we can select the best animals for the future.
We believe that the future will belong to animals that can provide quality protein from grass and the taste of sustainability will become increasingly important to customers.

Province, near the town MooiRiver in South Africa. LABEC is owned and
and was established in March 2020. LABEC is commercially operated and aims to establish close collaboration with the various role players in the beef value chain i.e., Breed Societies, Seedstock Producers (Stud Breeders), Commercial Beef Farmers and Nutritional Institutions, to make improvements in the beef value chain. The technology used by LABEC is supplied and supported by Vytelle, world leaders in feed efficiency measurement and improvement in beef cattle.
The aim of the test station is to research or test various aspects that may have an impact on the beef value chain, for example:
• Beef genetics, evaluating feed efficiency by measuring RFI (Residual Feed Intake or Net Feed Intake), ADG and F:G ratios.
• Beef genetics on meat quality.
• Optimal nutritional solutions for different beef breeds, genders, age, etc.
• New nutritional concepts, for example alternatives to growth promoters and antibiotics, enzymes, type of raw materials, optimal levels of energy and protein, fibre, etc.
• Optimal beef yield, i.e., dress percentages, fat deposition and meat quality.

Oggendstond Simmentaler Stud was established in the year 2015. Our farm, Misty Heights on which the Simmentalers’ roam is situated 1650 to 1720 meters above sea level, in the Giants Castle region, near the town MooiRiver in the KwaZulu Natal province of South Africa. This mountainous region at the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains, is a predominantly sour veld area with harsh cold and windy winters with lush summer natural pastures. At Oggendstond Simmentalers, we do not guess, but follow an extensive performance testing regime as prescribed by Breedplan, currently holding a 4 Star Breedplan rating. The main breeding objectives are:
1. Fertility
2. Calving ease
3. Feed efficiency measured as RFI
4. A good balance between growth and mature cow weight
5. Meat quality
6. Polled genetics
Excel is a young Polled bull with tremendous potential, we welcomed his first calves in 2022. In the South African Simmentaler Breedplan EBV database, he is above breed average for calving ease, in the top 1% of the breed for growth and feed efficiency and in the top 10% for fertility. His carcass yield traits are exceptional. With our slogan “Genetics for Progress” we supply purpose driven bulls to our customers.

We believe that the selection and maintenance of more efficient animals will be essential to guarantee a prosperous future, ensuring an efficient use of our precious feed, which are increasingly scarce and expensive.
Our selection scheme is governed by the basic principles of any sustainable herd – unassisted calving, docile animals, explosive growth until puberty enabling, thus an early start of a reproductive performance for females and excels in carcass and meat traits that favors eating quality attributes. We aim to produce moderate framed animals, in particular longevity in cows producing each year a healthy and heavy calf at weaning.
AGRIANGUS offers annually in its Annual Sale, a selection of animals that are the result of a dedicated and careful breeding scheme, in which are used the most advanced methods, technologies and genetics available globally. We also offer exportable semen.
We take this opportunity to thank all customers who continue to invest and trust in our selection program, it is for them that we are committed to improve: delivery, after delivery.

Founded in 1993, Animal Breeders´ Association of Estonia (ABAE) is a private organization joining dairy and beef breeders. ABAE cooperates with European and American organizations in exchange of breeding materials and information, common seminars and conferences are arranged, foreign experts judge national shows.ABAE has more than 450 members who are active farmers and use services offered by the association and we are the biggest breeding organization of the Baltic States. The main activities are herdbook keeping; collection, storage and marketing of semen; AI activities; issuing pedigree certificates; organization of cattle shows and classification, cattle and semen import-export; evaluation of AI bulls and training for farmers.Association operates the only AI station in Estonia and for cattle export we have a collection center.
ABAE is running a performance test for beef bulls since 2006, and activities during test period are:
• Weighing every second week;
• Feeding with TMR, 2 different rations for extensive and intensive bulls;
• Testing for 9 different diseases to meet AI bulls veterinary requirements + hoof inspections;
• Genetic evaluation in national level;
• Interbeef evaluation;
• genome testing;
• testing for inheritable genetic diseases; incl. testing of the polled gene in horned breeds and double muscularity;
• Linear classification;
• Measuring of the testicular circumference and sperm quality;
• All bulls undergo socialization and halter training (at the request of the owner).
• At the end of the performance test, the championship will be held to find out the best bulls with help of the international judges,
• Web catalogue and online auction.
Since 2023 we are using the Vytelle Insight system for measuring feed intake and find best breeding bulls candidates.

ESTONIA
We know our cattle are at the top of the breed for feed: gain (feed conversion efficiency) so the next step is to identify cattle that meet our tough multi-trait criteria but are also good at Net Feed Intake (NFI).
Our Vytelle system allows us to weigh animals on a daily basis as they drink, so we not only record daily feed intakes we also get weight performance in real time. This is the feedback that has been lacking in beef systems and sets our genetics apart.
The good news for beef farmers is selection for feed efficiency aligns with onfarm productivity and also helps in the selection for animals with a lower carbon footprint (lower emissions intensity).

The Atria breeding bull test 2024-25 with the bull sale in May 2025 was already the 7th on the Farm of Mikko Peura. This season there was a big group of Charolais bulls in test. One of the best RFI epds for the breed was measured for this bull, Aron Äijä, from a young Aron Charolais herd in Southern Finland. Äijä is sired by a stockbull Hannolan Suosikki PP bred by an old Hannolan Charolais herd in Finland. Äijä is an easy calving bull with good growth.
Atria is one of the leading meat and food companies in Northern Europe. We are a company established in 1903 and valued by our customers, personnel and owners. We have been producing food for more than 100 years, and we want to continue to do so. That is why Atria operates with respect for the planet, product and people.
Atria Finland and its company for meat procurement, A-Farmers is working closely with beef breeders and is organizing breeding bull testing at the farm of Mikko Peura. Every autumn the pens are filled with 200 weaned bull calves of five breeds: Angus, Charolais, Hereford, Limousin and Simmental. Every May the best bulls are sold for breeding or semen production and transported all over the country.
All bulls at Mikko Peura test station are eating minimum 60% grass silage and maximum 40% oats/barley. No protein supplements have been used, only mineral-vitamin mix added. This is a typical diet in Finnish beef production and it is important to measure residual feed intake using same kind of a diet.
Genomic testing is nowadays part of Atria breeding bull testing. All bulls have to be genotyped before the trial starts and have genomic breeding values and pedigree verified. At the moment we are getting both national and Nordic genomic breeding values.

In 2023, the Great Basin Bull Sale was created to provide producers in the western states with performance tested high efficiency bulls. Building on the legacy of Snyder Livestock’s Bulls for the 21st century bull test and sale, the Great Basin Bull Sale provides a venue for western seedstock producers of all breeds to showcase their genetics under a similar format. Bulls undergo rigorous evaluation in several categories as well as efficiency testing to provide a total animal evaluation. Gain, weaning performance, fertility (dam as well as individual), ultrasound, and feed efficiency, make up the categories for scoring. Three test groups are evaluated including early fall, late fall, and spring born bulls. A partnership was also formed with the Nevada Cattlemen’s Association to take over their range bull sale. The range bull division provides a source for age advantaged bulls to be included as well. For consignment information please contact us for information.

TOP 150 PERCENTILE TABLE
The values provided are in kilograms (kg)
Percentile bands tables provide a useful benchmarking resource for breeding values for herds participating in the Vytelle Network Genetic Evaluation. Every week, the percentile bands are updated from the most recent Vytelle Network Genetic Evaluation. Percentile bands allows beef producers to rank animals from the Top 1% of the Vytelle Network (1st percentile) down to the Bottom 1% of the Vytelle Network (99th percentile).
A simplified version of the Percentile bands table is included to the left to allow you to view this data and identify at what band your animals may currently sit and what progress may be needed to move to another band in the evaluation.
Given the selection criteria for the Top 150 publication, all published animals are in the top 10% of the Vytelle Network for RFI EPD.
