M.Arch (RIBA Part II) Year One - Semester Two:
Urban Air pollution is estimated to cause approximately two million premature deaths worldwide and kills 656,000 Chinese citizens each year.
With the rapid urbanization, industrialization and development of China, comes vast amounts of pollution, which is mainly due to its dependence on coal for energy. The country is developing so fast that it has not had time to develop new ways of producing energy and reducing effectively the resulting pollution.
Porosity or void fraction is a measure of the void spaces in a material and is proposed as an architectural tectonic. The project, which is a treatment centre for patients suffering from urban air pollution, stimulates air flows across the site and neutralizes unnatural concentrations of particulate matter and pollutants in the air across a network of green courtyards and a complex network of ventilation system manifested through the complex fluid and perforated skin of the building.
