S A LU TAT I O N Salutation is an 88 acre island on the North Shore of Long Island and is an enduring example of the resources and extraordinary craftsmanship available to the creators of the fabled Gold Coast estates. THE MANOR HOUSE

THE MANOR HOUSE “Salutation” was built in 1919 by Junius Spencer Morgan, son of J.P. Morgan Jr., with a later addition completed in 1928. The architect was Roger H. Ballard, and Frederick Law Olmsted, the celebrated landscape architect of New York City’s Central Park, was engaged to design the property. Mature ornamental plantings, specimen trees, walled gardens and rose gardens have thrived and contribute to the magical aura of this truly extraordinary property.

The stately and monumental manor house is constructed of stone transported by barge from quarries in upstate New York by Mr. Morgan. The roof tiles are also of stone.

The house is approximately 27,000 square feet in size, and has had only three owners. Original appointments including wide-plank flooring, magnificent millwork and leaded glass windows have been meticulously maintained. Many sets of French doors open to terraces from which spectacular views of the water, gardens, lawns and sunsets may be savored.

The handsome library, paneled in mahogany, has wide plank floors and two fireplaces. French doors at one end of the Great Hall open to a covered, colonnaded terrace with superlative views across Long Island Sound to the Manhattan skyline, Westchester and Connecticut. Another terrace overlooks a picturesque koi pond.

T he Up st ai rs The majestic staircase, distinguished by an 18th Century balustrade, leads to the second floor. The Master bedroom suite, overlooking the water, is comprised of two bedrooms, each with a fireplace and bathroom, and a sitting room with a fireplace. There are seven additional bedrooms with fireplaces and ensuite bathrooms. Staff quarters are ample.

THE CREEK HOUSE As its name suggests, Creek House is a charming, slate-roofed stone house with parquet floors. Privately tucked away, it overlooks the inlet to the Long Island Sound and beyond, and allowing the enjoyment of magnificent sunsets and water views. Both the living room and dining room have fireplaces and French doors opening to stone terraces. The cozy den has a fireplace. The stone floored sun room is another venue from which to enjoy views of the tranquil property. The second floor Master bedroom is enhanced by a skylight and a fireplace. There are three additional bedrooms and three full baths.

A free-form heated swimming pool and cabana and a separate two-bedroom guest cottage complete this magical property.

THE POND HOUSE As its name suggests, this elegant residence is situated overlooking the island’s 28 acre pond, a delightful spot to enjoy the many varieties of waterfowl and wildlife.

This Palm Beach style house is constructed of stucco and has a slate roof.
