This year the Danforth Art Museum and School celebrates its 50th Anniversary. This means that for half a century the Museum has played a part in showcasing the work of visual artists working throughout New England. Contemporary art is always changing to reflect the current moment, whether it is 1975 or 2025, and the Juried Exhibition shines a light on just some of what is new right now.
The Danforth Annual Juried Exhibition aligns with our mission by presenting a novel perspective, showcasing innovative work, and introducing new artists. Once again, we had a panel of three jurors, representing the region, the University, and the Danforth. This year’s jurors are
Lauren Szumita, Director of the Cantor Art Gallery at Holy Cross, Yumi ParkHuntington, Professor of Art History at FSU, and Jessica Roscio, Director and Curator of the Danforth Art Museum. With the largest number of submissions to date, the exhibition includes the work of ninety-eight artists across media that we welcome you to discover.
The Danforth is privileged to host the Juried Exhibition this summer. As always, we are grateful to all the artists who submitted to the exhibition and contribute to the region’s rich cultural landscape. This exhibition is generously sponsored by Middlesex Savings Bank.
“It was an extraordinary experience to see artworks in various media that express layers of complexity and reflect a range of creative voices and dynamic conceptual approaches. I was overwhelmed by the incredible talents of our regional artists, who capture the hearts of viewers through the endless threads of stories they tell with unique visual expressions. I want to express my sincere admiration for all the participating artists, and I was honored to meet them through their artwork. It was genuinely challenging to select artworks for the show from hundreds of submissions. The contributions reflect not only individual talent but also the enduring power of art in our community.”
Yumi Park-Huntington - Professor of Art History, Framingham State University
“One of the most enjoyable and important aspects of my job is to see and learn about the art that is being created in the region, and the Juried Exhibition is a wonderful venue for that to occur. I was in awe of the creativity and talent in all of the submitted works, and it was extremely difficult to narrow choices to the pieces on view. That being said,
these are ninety-eight very diverse works of art, and I am excited for them to be seen together. As always, the art fills the space with new ideas, and I hope it sparks conversation and introspection. I am grateful to everyone who has made this exhibition happen.”
Jessica Roscio - Director & Curator, Danforth Art Museum
“The works chosen for the exhibition, while covering an impressive myriad of themes, media, and styles, demonstrate a shared inquisitiveness about the human experience. Some artists are slowing down to take notice of the world around us—whether that’s the natural world or the effects of human action—and sometimes urging us toward awareness and action. Others are turning within, thinking critically about the individual experience and the universality of one perspective. Many point out the joy that can be found in the everyday, by using found materials or depicting unassuming items that often escape notice. And yet others are imagining possibility, in worlds that vary from the highly conceptual to the feasible. Congratulations to all those selected for inclusion in the 2025 Danforth Juried Exhibition, and thank you to all that express creatively what we collectively feel and see.”

This exhibition would not have been possible without the tireless work and dedication of the Danforth staff, including Rachel Passannante, who flawlessly handled all of the logistics of the exhibition from start to finish, and made it look easy. Thanks to Laura Gayton, who created all the exhibition graphics and marketing material, including this catalog; and to Katherine Tako-Girard, who coordinated with the artists to give us a summer’s worth of programming. Thanks to Tim Johnson and Frank Gregory for expert installation, and the rest of the Danforth team whose contributions make us the regional gem we all love to be a part of.
