Danforth Annual Juried Exhibition begins months and involves the entire Museum staff. Although in the routine of preparing for it each year, revels in the unexpected. Juror’s statements
“It was a pleasure to serve as a juror for the Danforth’s Annual Juried exhibition this year. The breadth of submissions reflects the vitality of contemporary artistic practice in the region, showcasing a remarkable diversity of media, approaches, and perspectives. As visitors will see, many of the artists engage with ideas of landscape and place. These concerns appeared across a variety of media and methodologies—from direct observation and representation to abstraction. It was fascinating to see how artists approached similar subjects through such distinct visual languages, reflecting both personal experiences and broader conversations. The selected works offer a snapshot of the creative energy and richness of contemporary art being made today. Together, they reflect a community of artists who are thoughtful, inventive, and deeply engaged with their practices. I hope viewers will discover both compelling individual works and meaningful connections across the exhibition as a whole.”

“It was a great honor to be asked to serve on the jury panel for the Danforth’s Annual Juried Exhibition. We received some 1,350 artworks from some 452 artists. There were so many stellar works making our charge to provide a snapshot of regional contemporary art quite a challenge. When selecting artwork for an exhibition like this my first priority is surprise. I’m looking for work that stops me in my tracks and makes me want to keep looking. I want to be astonished, left with a question, to have a visceral/physical response to what I’m encountering. Am I having an experience with the work or merely seeing it? For me, so many of the submitted artworks were such encounters! Congratulations to all the selected artists!”

The Danforth Art Museum was founded with the intent to connect with and represent our surrounding community, highlighting the art and artists of the Greater Boston area, and serving as an accessible space to engage with both historical and contemporary art.
