It is an exciting time to be a Pennsylvania deer farmer. The deer market remains strong, demand for quality stockers continues to grow, and Pennsylvania producers have more opportunities today to market and move animals throughout the Commonwealth. That increased commerce is important to every part of our industry, from the breeder raising the next generation of genetics to the hunting operation looking for quality Pennsylvania-raised bucks. Those opportunities did not happen overnight. Over the past 15 years, PDFA has worked closely with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to find practical solutions that protect animal health while allowing responsible producers to conduct business. Continued work surrounding CWD regulations and the CCMZ has helped create additional commerce opportunities while maintaining Pennsylvania’s commitment to disease management. That balance is important. PDFA believes strongly in healthy animals and responsible disease management. We also believe that regulations should evolve as science and technology advance. New tools, including GEBV testing and other advancements in CWD science, are giving producers and regulators information that simply wasn’t available in the past. PDFA will continue advocating for policies that recognize those advancements and provide a path for responsible farms to grow and succeed. A healthy deer industry also reaches far beyond our farms. Every animal raised and marketed supports a much larger rural economy, including feed mills, fencing companies, veterinarians, trucking companies, equipment dealers, agricultural businesses,
landowners, employees, and local communities. Successful deer farms also keep land in agricultural use, improve habitat, and support the conservation and hunting opportunities that are so important to Pennsylvania. That brings us to the PA Eastern Fall Classic Stocker Sale. This year’s sale brings buyers and sellers together at a time when there is real optimism in the Pennsylvania deer market. Whether you are looking to add quality stockers to your operation or have bucks ready for market, we hope you take advantage of the opportunities represented in this catalog. Most importantly, buy Pennsylvania deer and support Pennsylvania deer farmers. Keeping commerce moving within our state strengthens our farms, our hunting operations, and the entire industry surrounding them. PDFA will continue working to preserve, protect, and promote Pennsylvania deer farming, expand opportunities for our members, and advocate for a regulatory environment where producers can thrive.
