Message from Dance Victoria’s Executive Director There is nothing like Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s uniquely Canadian production of Nutcracker! Where else can you experience a hockey game on a frozen pond, a battle on Parliament Hill, Mounties, polar bears, reindeer and more, all in one production? The sets, costumes and plot resonate with us because they are as much a part of our Canadian holiday traditions as baking, gift giving and egg nog. RWB’s Nutcracker continues to be Dance Victoria’s top grossing production of all time. Its scale is enormous: 27 dancers from RWB; 45 members of the Victoria Symphony; 72 local children; 35 backstage crew; and countless volunteers come together for every performance. That’s over 180 people behind and in front of the scenes! We’re delighted to partner with Victoria Academy of Ballet (VAB), our Nutcracker

Children’s Ensemble Sponsor. KerryLynn Turner, Program Director of the Post-Secondary Bridge Program at VAB, taught the Children’s Ensemble their roles so they feel confident to perform on the Royal stage. A big thanks also to the following VAB dancers who are dressed as characters from Nutcracker in the lobbies throughout the weekend: Alan Barrientos Molina; Mimori Hosokawa; Abril Castano Lozada; Marine Tanaka; Daniel Lugo Maldonado and Kanon Nomura. It takes a whole community of people pulling together to make magic happen, and to make it look effortless for your enjoyment. From all of us at Dance Victoria, we wish you the happiest holiday season! — Gillian Jones, Executive Director
