A Message from Dance Victoria Producer There is nothing like Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s uniquely Canadian production of Nutcracker! Where else can you experience a hockey game on a frozen pond, a battle on Parliament Hill, Mounties, polar bears, reindeer and more all in one production! The sets, costumes and plot resonate with us because they are as much a part of our Canadian holiday traditions as baking, gift giving and egg nog! This production continues to be Dance Victoria’s top grossing production of all time. Leah Wickes taught the ensemble of approximately 75 children from local dance schools. Leah has a BFA in Dance from Simon Fraser University and is the owner and Artistic Director of the Pacific Dance Centre.

The scale of Nutcracker is enormous and always astounds me: 27 dancers from RWB; 45 members of the Victoria Symphony; approximately 75 local children; 35 backstage crew; and countless volunteers come together for every performance. That’s over 180 people behind and in front of the scenes! It takes a whole community of people pulling together to make magic happen and to make it look effortless for your enjoyment. From all of us at Dance Victoria, we wish you the happiest of the holiday season! — Stephen White, Producer
