Message from Dance Victoria Producer There is nothing like Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s uniquely Canadian production of Nutcracker! Where else can you experience a snowy pond hockey game, a battle on Parliament Hill, Mounties, polar bears, reindeer and more all in one production! The sets, costumes and plot resonate with us because it is part of our Canadian holiday traditions. This production continues to be Dance Victoria’s top grossing production of all time. KerryLynn Turner of Victoria Academy of Ballet taught the ensemble of approximately 50 local children. KerryLynn is a former dancer with Ballet BC and has been instrumental to the success of Victoria Academy of Ballet’s Post Secondary Bridge Program.
The scale of this production is enormous and always astounds me: 25 dancers from RWB; 45 members of the Victoria Symphony; approximately 50 local children; 35 backstage crew; and countless volunteers come together for every performance. That’s over 150 people behind and in front of the scenes! It takes a whole community of people pulling together to make magic happen and to make it look effortless for your enjoyment. From all of us at Dance Victoria, we wish you the happiest of the holiday season! — Stephen White, Producer
