Biographies Alexander Burton Born in Vancouver and studied at Arts Umbrella where he performed works by many worldrenowned choreographers, including James Kudelka, Aszure Barton, Gioconda Barbuto and John Alleyne. Joined Ballet BC in 2010. In the past four seasons, he has danced in works

by Emily Molnar, Johan Inger, William Forsythe, Walter Matteini and Crystal Pite, among others.

Emily Chessa From Richmond, BC. Trained at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School starting at age 15. Performed in the

Biographies graduate program at Arts Umbrella. Where she work with choreographers James Kudelka, Lesley Telford, Wen Wei Wang, Aszure Barton, and Gioconda Barbuto. Recently participated in Springboard Danse Montreal. Joined Ballet BC as an apprentice last year and was promoted as a full company member this season.

Darren Devaney Born in Edmonton where he attended the Victoria School of Performing Arts. BFA from Boston Conservatory where he performed the works of Tudor, Limon, and Sokolow. Before joining Ballet BC as a guest artist in 2011, Darren worked with Zhukov Dance Theater, Robert Moses’ Kin, and Alberta Ballet.

Dario Dinuzzi Began dance career with Astra Roma Ballet and the Junior Balletto di Toscana, later joining Aterballetto, performing works by Mauro Bigonzetti and Walter Matteini. With Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, he danced works by Kim Brandstrup, Stijn Celis, Shen Wei, Mats Ek, Jean-Cristophe Maillot, Ohad Naharin, and Jiri Kylián. Dinuzzi is in his fourth season at Ballet BC. He is also a choreographer, having worked with Serata Carta Bianca (Aterballetto), Walter Matteini (Otello), and participated in Les Grands Ballets’ and Ballet BC choreographic workshop.

Thibaut Eiferman Born in Paris. Trained at training at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre in New York and San Francisco Conservatory of Dance. He was a member of Company E in Washington, D.C., wperforming the work of choreographers Ohad Naharin and Sharon Eyal. He has participated in programs at Jacob’s Pillow, Springboard Danse Montréal, Gaga Intensive in Tel Aviv and Nederlands Dans Theatre. He was a guest artist with Ballet BC last season now, a full company member. Livona Ellis Vancouver-born. Trained at Arts Umbrella, joining the Arts Umbrella Dance Company. Livona worked with Johan Inger, Medhi Valerski and Jacopo Godani. Recently she participated in Springboard Danse Montreal, Movement Invention Project, The Banff Professional Dance Program and San Francisco Conservatory of Dance Summer Program. This is her fourth season with Ballet BC. Alexis Fletcher Born in Vancouver. Raised in the Comox Valley before attending Arts Umbrella’s Professional Training Program. Former member of Arts Umbrella’s student company. Attended Springboard Danse Montreal. Joined Ballet BC in 2005. Has performied works by John Alleyne, Emily Molnar, Crystal Pite, José Navas, William Forsythe, Itzik Galili, Dominique Dumais, Nicolo Fonte, Wen Wei Wang,

Serge Bennathan, Kevin O’Day, Aszure Barton, Rob Kitsos, Sidra Bell, Medhi Walerski, Johan Inger and Gioconda Barbuto, among many others. Ninth season with Ballet BC.

Connor Gnam Born and raised in the Vancouver area. Trained at Arts Umbrella. Joined Ballet BC after one season with Ballet Kelowna. Personal highlights include performing works by William Forsythe, Crystal Pite, Jorma Elo, Itzik Galili, George Balanchine, Gioconda Barbuto and Medhi Walerski, among others. Connor is excited to be in his eighth season with Ballet BC.

Daniel Marshalsay Born and raised in Calgary. Trained at the School of Alberta Ballet. Danced with Ballet Kelowna before joining Alberta Ballet for three years. Joined Ballet Arizona dancing soloist and principal roles in works by Twyla Tharp, George Balanchine, Alejandro Cerrudo, Christopher Wheeldon, Jerome Robbins, Robert Dekkers, Crystal Pite, Gioconda Barbuto and Emily Molnar. Daniel is in his third season at Ballet BC.

Rachel Meyer From Collinsville, Illinois, trained with St. Louis Ballet. BFA (University of Utah). She trained at the Northwest Professional Dance Project and the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, danced with Utah Regional Ballet. Guest artist with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. Member of Dominic Walsh Dance Theater (2009-11). Awarded Princess Grace Award in 2010. In 2011 pefformed at the Tate Modern (London) with the Michael Clark Company. This is her third season with Ballet BC. Racheal Prince Raised in Wasaga Beach, ON. Trained at the Quinte Ballet School. Attended Alberta Ballet’s PreProfessional Program on scholarship. Danced with Alberta Ballet for four years. Has performed works by William Forsythe, Crystal Pite, Itzik Galili and Lar Lubovitch, among many others. Currently in her seventh season at Ballet BC.

Gilbert Small Born Baltimore, Maryland. Trained from theage of 10 at the Baltimore School for the Arts and completed programs at Dance Theater of Harlem, Nutmeg Conservatory, Miami City Ballet, American Ballet Theater and Springboard Danse Montreal. Continued training at the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College. Also studied at the Hogeschool voor Muziek en Dans in Rotterdam. Has performed with Toronto based ProArte Danza. Also performed for Sidra Bell Dance New York. This is his fifth season with Ballet BC.


Biographies Peter Smida Born in in Kingston, Ontario. A former tennis player, Peter trained at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School graduating in 2007. Attended summer programs in Banff and Prague. After working with RWB and Ballet Victoria, Peter joined Ballet BC in 2008, performing works by Emily Molnar, Jorma Elo, Crystal Pite, Johan Inger and Medhi Walerski, as well as many others. Makaila Wallace Born in California. Trained at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet school and attended Bolshoi Ballet summer programs. Danced with the RWB as an apprentice before joining the Royal Swedish Ballet for three years.
