DANCER OF THE MONTH This Months “IMPACT Dancer of The Month” has been selected based on their dedication and improvement in class as well as their kindness towards their peers, families, and staff through their positive IMPACT they make on the studio environment as a whole. Our Impact Dancer will get to select a charity of their choice for The Dance Attic to make a $50 donation in their name. Once the charity is chosen by the dancer and their family, we will share that information with our families in the following Newsletter. DECEMBER DANICA MELTON Miss Danica Melton has chosen Tunnels To Towers Foundation as her Impact Charity. The Dance Attic has donated $50 in Danica’s Name to the charity of her choice. This year, the Tunnels To Towers foundation vows to deliver 40 mortgage-free homes to deserving recipients nationwide by Christmas Eve, bringing the total to over 200 mortgage-free homes for the year.Feel free to click the link below to find out more and how you could donate today.

CLASS OF 2024 FEATURES

Karolina walks through the studio with a smile on her face and always has a positive attitude in all of her classes. She is consistently kind and respectful to her peers and everyone in the studio. Whenever a classmates needs help in class, she's one of the first people to offer it. Her engagement in class is something special! We are so excited to continue to watch her grow as a dancer and human! Keep up the good work Karolina!

This month The Dance Attic will focus our Imprint efforts towards two of our main Impact Charities “Saving Grace” and “North Wake Back Pack Buddies.”As we head into the New Year, we challenge our families to share out these links with your close friends and spread the Impact our Dance Family can make for these to organizations!

FAITH HIDENFELTER - What Impact has The Dance Attic made on your life? The Dance Attic has been my first and only home for dance as long as I've lived in Wake Forest, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I have made invaluable connections with the staff here that put their heart and soul into everything they do, and continue to push me to be a better dancer. The Dance Attic has given me unique opportunities to challenge myself and expand my knowledge of dance, encouraging me to want to pursue dance and keep learning after high school. I have also met some of my closest friends through The Dance Attic, and made relationships that I truly believe will last a long, long time. How do you hope to leave your Imprint on The Dance Attic before graduation? This year, I have the privilege of teaching ballet and tap to the youngest Combo dancers, as well as continuing as a member of the Intern Team. Both of these roles give me opportunities to present myself as a role model to other dancers at the studio, especially younger dancers and those who might want to be a Teacher Assistant or Intern one day. I hope to encourage others to take potential leadership opportunities presented to them, because I have truly learned so much through the positions and tasks I have taken up in recent years. Just from volunteering, whether at the Lodge, another charity, or in the studio, anyone can learn important skills that they can apply in their lives and futures outside of dance as well. Additionally, I want to encourage more older dancers to try out tap class! It's one of my greatest passions, and I grew to love it so much just from practice and time invested in improving. It seems that as dancers get older and have more time commitments outside of dance, tap is the first thing to get cut. Trust me, you can love it too if you just give it a shot!

DIARA CARTER - What Impact has The Dance Attic made on your life? The dance attic has made a huge impact on my life by teaching me so many different things about dance, growth, and life in general. TDA has continuously grown and further my love dance, I always feel inspired by my peers and teachers here and they have taught me the meaning of a second home! I’ve learned all the different ways dance can help your grow and expand as a person. TDA has taught me self-confidence, hard-work, and teamwork and so so much more. I am so grateful to be able to dance at TDA and this studio has such a big impact on me! How do you hope to leave your Imprint on The Dance Attic before graduation? I hope to leave a positive and role modeling imprint on the dance attic before I leave! I hope that in some way I can be like one of the older girls that I looked up to when I was younger and hopefully inspire or motivate the dancers to continue to dance and grow. I want to have aMORE imprintINFO this year that is promising and bright and that I am proud of!

WELCOME HOME!

TDA Staff is so excited to welcome back Alumni Heather Hoy as our newest full time staff member!

Heather will be completing her Elementary Education Internship at Wake Forest Elementary School, and is returning to teach dance at TDA prior to her graduation from Appalachian State University in May! Check out our website to read more about all of Miss Heather’s accomplishments and join in on welcoming her into our Dance Attic Family as a permanent staff member!

ADULT CLASS SERIES For the month of January we welcome Ms. Heather for Hip Hop as she is taking on her first Adult Class Series with The Dance Attic Crew! Right now we have 6 adults registered for the class and we will need a total of 8 to continue with the class!

COMPETITION INFO Each year our studio participates in a local competition. Our studio will be competing in Star Talent Productions Dance Competition on the weekend of April 12-14 in Henderson, NC! (McGregor Hall, 201 Breckenridge St, Henderson, NC 27536). This is a great opportunity for dancers of a certain age to experience performing and interacting with other dance studios. It is a very positive experience, and all of the dancers are rewarded for their hard work! Your competition fees were processed on November 15th along with other TDA Fees. Please know, we will not know the specific days and times for each dancer until 710 days before the competition date. You will receive more info later in the year. Also, please note that all tuition and outstanding payments must be paid to receive your costumes and to participate in the competition. If you have conflict with this date, please send an email to info@thedanceattic.com immediately.

Staff has also selected dancers to be Award Collectors at the competition. CLICK HERE to check and see if this applies to your dancers and the responsibilities that come with that. If you were selected as an award collector you will need to confirm via the document above by February 1st.

PHOTO SESSION INFO FEATURING

Ms. Hallie & LOCAL EYE PHOTOGRAPHY

Ms. Hallie and Local Eye Photography will be taking all of our pictures this year for TDA. TDAC you will receive separate information in regards to your photo sessions, as well as our TDA Class of 2024. For our TDA Rec Pictures, those will take place inside at TDA (1241 S. Main St.) with Ms. Hallie’s photography set up in studio 5.

TDA Recreational Group Pictures All Dancers will be taking a group picture for each dance that has a costume. We need all of our dancers in attendance for our group shots for memories, (even if you are not purchasing the group photo, you will be in the photo.) The schedule for pictures is broken up by class, where all dancers will take their class group photo first, and then any dancer who has paid for their individual photo, will take that photo directly following the group photo. All group photos are available to purchase for $10 per photo. There will be one class photo selected by Local Eye Photography as the group photo available for access.

TDA Recreational Individual Pictures Dancers are able to sign up for individual pictures/poses in however many costumes you wish. In the schedule we have allotted time for dancers to pose for their individual pictures directly following the group photo for each costume. We will need to know in advance what costumes dancers would like to purchase their pictures in to make a finalized schedule. With that in mind, please see the Early Bird pricing for TDA Recreational Individual Pictures. On the Google Form linked below you will let us know what costumes you will purchase individual pictures in.

Based on your responses, picture fees will be posted directly to your TDA Jackrabbit Accounts.

QUICK PHOTO SESSION NOTES Dancers will take group photos in every costume.

Dancers will be changing from costume to costume in the other studios for their assigned photo slots.

All photos will be distributed via digital download access to your own devices for you to download, export, and share without watermarks or logos. As Ms. Hallie is one of our own, we ask that you respect her work and the process of purchasing/sharing photos of your dancer.

TDA staff will pick the best of the images to share with you and you will get access to all of those images.

Dancers will be taught their picture poses in class and will be assigned poses for each of their costumes.

All Dancers will be doing the same poses per each costume for these images, as we have done in the past.

BLOOD DRIVE SUCCESS Thank you to all who were able to come out to TDA’s donor site for our recent blood drive on Dec 12th. During the holidays, and specifically this year – Red Cross is in critical need for blood, and again we am truly thankful to those who came out and joined TDA for this event.

ALUMNI EVENT SUCCESS TDA hosted our 3rd Alumni event where we hosted TDA Alumni dancers in classes of different styles taught by our very own TDA Alumni and staff member, Miss Abby Telenko. This event was a huge success with lots of laughter, networking, and sharing what impact dance, and specifically TDA has had on each of our different walks of life. We look forward to hosting more events like this one in the future. We have created a Facebook page for alumni to join to stay up to date and connect with one another. PAJAMA WEEK Directly following our competition, we will celebrate our dancers with a Pajama Week Celebration. Dancers will receive accolades and talk about their experience at competition with a few surprises and fun activities at well.

There will be more details in our February Newsletter.

COSTUME UPDATE

We hope to have all TDA Costumes passed out in February. There are some delays with shipping for a few pieces, as costume companies are still facing some setbacks. The document linked below is still in progress, but will allow you to view what your costumes and accessories are for your dancers’ routines.

Please do not email with any questions regarding costumes until after costumes have been passed out. Please note upon receiving costumes you will be responsible for all alterations and costume needs. If there are any costume issues, we need to know immediately in order to help you rectify your problems and make alteration suggestions for you. We need to know within a week of you receiving your costumes. In the February Newsletter, there will be a document for anyone with costume issues to inform of us of those issues so we as a staff can address them together. Always remember, too big is completely fixable, if something is too small, we will offer suggestions on how to get costumes fitting!

IMPORTANT INFO AND REMINDERS 1. The Ballet instructors would like to remind you that proper dance attire is required for ballet class, specifically our older ballet classes. You should be wearing a leotard with tights and ballet shoes. Boys should be wearing shorts and a form fitting top also with their ballet shoes. Hair should be in a bun, unless it is too short, and then it should be secure and out of your face.

2. As we head back into the new year, please remind yourself to be kind and respectful to your peers and teachers.

3. Dancers should not be on their phones in class. We understand you need to bring phones to class, but phones should be put away and on silent during class.

4. Parents, please drop your dancer off no more than 10 minutes early and pick them up promptly when class is over.

5. Please read our Facebook posts for important and quick announcements.

6. We want you to email when you are absent. Remember to include the class, day, and teacher in your email. Please note you will still receive email reminders and updates even if you have told us that you will be absent. Those are mass emails that go to everyone!

7. Write your dancer's name on all dance gear (shoes, bag, jacket, etc.). Also, please be sure to put your dancers name on water bottles. If something is lost the "lost and found" is in dressing rooms and TDA is not responsible for gathering or finding lost items. Dancers should check the lost and found the next time they are at the studio after any items have been lost.
