Dear friends, THE 2014-2015 GRAND RE-OPENING SEASON, AN UNPRECEDENTED MILESTONE IN DANCE PLACE’S HISTORY, LAUNCHED IN OUR BEAUTIFULLY TRANSFORMED AND EXPANDED BUILDING SEPTEMBER 2014. Many thanks to all those who made this dream become a reality, especially to the generous supporters who helped fund the Moving Forward Campaign, our designers Hickok Cole Architects, the construction by Bognet Construction Company and not least, our Board of Directors and staff who worked so tirelessly. The new facility enables us to serve artists, audience members, students and families with a better theater, additional studio space and an uplifting atmosphere. We successfully carried out an ambitious year of diverse performances, co-commissions by world class choreographers, inspiring classes, educational and community programs that added to the vibrancy of our changing neighborhood. It was an honor to be awarded a $500,000 leadership grant from the Kresge Foundation to support our role in creative placemaking, which will assist us in creating the 8th St Arts Park (with the anticipated opening in Fall of 2016) and our continued Art on 8th programming. We are proud to continue our role as the “hub of dance activity” in Washington, featuring artists that call the Greater DC Metro area their home, accomplished US touring companies and international guests that help us connect to cultures from around the world. Our goal through every program is to uplift society by nurturing creativity. With deep appreciation,

Carla Perlo

Deborah Riley

Founding Director Director

“THE OPENING OF THIS BEAUTIFUL FACILITY REPRESENTS A MILESTONE IN THE MEYER FOUNDATION’S 34-YEAR RELATIONSHIP WITH DANCE PLACE... In 1985, when Dance Place’s annual operating budget was $187,000 and it had just been kicked out of its home, this week’s ribbon-cutting would have been difficult to imagine...Yet today, with an annual budget of $1.5 million, a spectacular new space and nationally recognized programs, Dance Place is transformed. Sometimes it’s good to be

reminded that hard-won, incremental progress over many years can produce extraordinary results.” RICK MOYERS, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE EUGENE & AGNES E. MEYER FOUNDATION “Celebrating the Transformation of Dance Place,” September 11, 2014
