STORY The Persan family first appeared in 1947 in the living room of Jean Royère’s Paris apartment, as a floor lamp placed alongside the Ours Polaire sofa. As the lamp’s name and shape attest, Royère drew inspiration from Royère’s extensive travels in the Middle East, capturing its shapes and volumes while avoiding extravagant detail and complex ornamentation.

Other members of the Persan family are present in the decorator’s interiors of the 1950s and 1960s, notably the two and three-light wall lamps, the multiple chandeliers, and a table lamp.

FORM

The eight-light Persan wall lamp is defined by its slender profile, with the metal tubes of its stem bundled together, splaying out into an elegant cup-shaped base and a symmetric composition of lights at the top. The decorative ring around the cup visually links the stems together, like a ribbon around a bouquet of flowers, sprouting the stems like heads of flowers and evoking the rings on the floor lamp.

SAVOIR-FAIRE The structure of the Persan wall lamp is composed of steel tubes, each precisely bent into shape using a series of forms and guides.

The lamp features a cup-shaped base from which a bouquet-like spray of stems emerges. Each stem seems to grow outward, united in their search for light. Each is topped by a conical lampshade, resulting in a piece that resembles a glowing plant.

METAL The Persan wall lamp is available in a selection of historic finishes, based on those produced by Jean Royere. The metal frame is painted with a bake-on enamel for strength and longevity.

The Gold version lays 18k gold leaf sheets using traditional oil gilding techniques, expertly laid over a red painted base.

It is then delicately patinated, revealing some red as well as adding warmth and variations to the finished surface.

For the Red and Black versions, a soft and harmonious finish is achieved through meticulous handwork. The piece is first mattified by hand, before being delicately coated in a patina, for a soft finish with flecks of matte and shine, reflecting the hand of the maker.

PAPER The Persan wall lamp’s lampshades are crafted from hand-made Japanese paper, which charms with its subtle patternation, resembling that of parchment when lit.

PAPER - TRIMS The Liane wall light’s cylindrical shades are trimmed in a paper coordinating in colour with the body of the piece. The thin line frames the shade, creating a pleasing proportion, whilst linking the shade to the metal body, creating an harmonious and balanced design.
