Africa Chair - Vintage Afra and Tobia Scarpa The Africa chair is a striking example of sculptural postmodern design, blending craftsmanship, symbolism, and architectural form into functional seating pieces. Crafted in richly grained wood with black leather upholstered seats, the chairs balance warmth and graphic precision with an unmistakably collectible aesthetic. Each chair is defined by its dramatic backrest, composed of two sculpted wooden panels divided by a central vertical line. The backs are decorated with elegant black inlaid curves that radiate outward in a fan-like motif, evoking tribal patterns, sunbursts, or topographic lines. This geometric detailing gives the chairs a strong visual identity while emphasizing symmetry and rhythm across the set. Rounded upper backs soften the otherwise structured geometry. The sculptural backrests flow seamlessly into the rear supports, creating an almost architectural presence. Thick leather cushions provide contrast through their smooth matte texture and understated comfort. The warm honey-toned wood highlights the natural figuring and grain, bringing depth and organic character to the design. Paired with the black detailing and upholstery, the chairs achieve a sophisticated balance between African-inspired decorative language and contemporary Italian craftsmanship.

Exterior | Architecture There is a powerful urban dynamic between the streets of New York and the High Line, a layered civic realm that has developed over generations and in many iterations. 520 West 28th conveys this contextual relationship, applying new ideas and concepts to create the latest evolution of the site’s rich history. The split levels of the design define varied living spaces and echo the multiple layers of civic space on 28th Street and the High Line. These split levels are expressed within the interlocking chevrons of 520 West 28th’s hand-crafted steel façade which carries the spirit of Chelsea’s industrial past; its detailed workmanship continues the venerable tradition within New York’s historic architecture of enhancing the public realm. Designed and constructed with a practiced understanding of material qualities and manufacturing techniques, the façade conveys the attention to detail evident throughout 520 West 28th—brushed and tinted by hand to resonate with the adjacent structures of the High Line and its neighbourhood. Within an established community of over 350 art galleries that has seen the High Line’s transformation from abandoned freight rail line to public park, 520 West 28th embodies a commitment to uphold the distinctive character of its neighbourhood; creating a building with its own architectural presence, yet very much of its surroundings.

Vienna Counter Stool Tom Faulkner The Vienna design takes on a svelte, elongated format in this modern bar stool with arms and a footrest. It’s a stool designed to sit back and enjoy, rather than perch in tentatively. The piece draws upon the elegant, curvilinear qualities of the Art Nouveau, giving them a sleek, modern update with a dynamic silhouette. The legs are water cut from steel plate, imparting strength and allowing for laser-focused precision. Vienna has a beautifully elegant silhouette and looks great from all angles. This is an especially comfortable and stable bar stool, thanks to its carver armrests and foot bar.

Just | Upper Level | Phillip K. Smith III | Artist Bio

Phillip K. Smith III (b. California, 1972) American artist Phillip K. Smith III uses light as a medium to create optically shifting sculptures and site-specific installations. His minimal but imposing interventions into vast outdoor landscapes and more discreetly scaled sculptures are nuanced perceptual encounters in response to the unique conditions of site and context. Expansile and living, Smith's boundary-dissolving sculptures alter the interplay of light, color, and surface in an expanded field, proposing shifts in experiential pace to modify the viewer's physical encounter. Trained as an artist and an architect at Rhode Island School of Design, Smith incorporates the site- specificity of architecture, with its reliance on scale and its capacity to physically impact the human interaction it supports to create immersive viewing experiences. Recent projects include The Cube (2024), an 18' high reflective toroid cube sited as the new icon of a Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designed project in La Jolla, CA; TRI-HEX-CIRC (2024), a 50' high all-white, torqued light and shadow work in North Scottsdale, AZ, and Four Corners Extruded (2024), a 42' high reflective and light-based work for Seattle Sound Transit Parallel Perpendicular (2021), a series of 5 freestanding reflective and color-based volumes for West Hollywood Park in Los Angeles, CA; Three Half Lozenges (2021), a permanent acquisition activating the three two-story high windows on the 1920s façade of the Newark Museum of Art in Newark, NJ; Open Sky (2018), commissioned by Scandinavian fashion house COS for Italy's Salone del Mobile, Milan; Detroit Skybridge (2018), a 100-foot-long LED installation commissioned as part of Detroit's Library Street Collective’s city-wide revitalization effort, and The Circle of Land and Sky (2017), part of the inaugural Desert X, the critically acclaimed Coachella Valley desert-wide, site-specific exhibition. Smith’s Joshua Tree, CA project, Lucid Stead (2013), continues to be celebrated as a significant example of light-based site-specific works. In 2022-2023, Smith had two concurrently running solo museum exhibitions: Three Parallels at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and Light + Change at Palm Springs Art Museum. He has also been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Toledo Museum of Art, Laguna Art Museum, and Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Toledo Museum of Art, Palm Springs Art Museum, Denver Art Museum, and Newark Museum of Art, and has been featured in hundreds of print and online publications, including Architectural Digest, artnet, ARTnews, Forbes, The Guardian, Los Angeles Times, Wallpaper*, Yatzer, and Whitehot Magazine, among others.

Custom Storage Nestor & Rotsen The story of Nestor & Rotsen began with Devi Vervaeke, whose passion for material development ignited during his formative years. Growing up as the children of an painter and the grandchildren of a skilled furniture craftsman, Devi and his brother Denneb were immersed in a world of creativity from a young age. Despite pursuing different educational paths — Devi as a contemporary classical pianist and composer, and Denneb as a graphic designer — their shared love for materials brought them together after completing their studies. In their quest to explore their artistic roots, the brothers embarked on a journey of material experimentation. Denneb nurtured the growth of their patina workshop, while Devi began sculpting with various materials. It wasn’t long before he discovered the captivating allure of ceramics, inspired by the textures, colors, shapes, and organic erosions found in nature. This revelation sparked a vision that soon blossomed into an extraordinary collection, unlike anything seen before — Nestor & Rotsen.

Ito Floor Lamp Stem The Ito floor lamp embodies the transience of life’s passing moments that we often wish to hold on to. It is an ode to the beauty of the ephemeral experiences that keep the momentum of life flowing. Ito comprises individual strands of soft cotton threads suspended freely from a brass frame, cast from hand-sculpted patterns exploring the essence of the human touch and the natural beauty of impermanence through contrasting materials. The form appearing as a solid cuboid volume from afar, reveals an airy, light character as the wind blows, mesmerising the viewer with its warm glow. The product is carefully crafted by master artisans and is produced in small batches, making it challenging, if not impossible, to create identical items. Therefore, any natural blemishes or irregularities should not be viewed as flaws. Production marks may include slight pour ripples or surface pitting that contribute to the uniqueness of each handmade piece.

Utrecht Armchair Michele Bönan Interiors Gerrit Rietveld came up with the design for the Utrecht armchair in 1935 while working for the Metz & Co. department store in Amsterdam, where his brief was to make a chair for serial production. Taking market needs into account, while privileging a comfortable and relaxing experience, led to the elements of the chair being treated as separate units. As a consequence, the chair became an icon of both the Neoplastic movement, and of Rietveld’s experimental vision.

Stone Rose Floor Light 02 Michele Bönan Interiors Chen Chen & Kai Williams’ Stone Rose Floor Light transforms ancient geological material into a remarkably delicate lighting form. Each rose is meticulously carved from quartz stones gathered along the North Shore of Long Island, remnants of glacial movement dating back roughly 16,000 to 20,000 years. Shaped into exceptionally thin petals that belie the hardness of the stone, the elements are joined by sculptural brass stems that provide both structure and elegance. Through an innovative finishing process, layers of solder are connected, creating seamless transitions that soften the junctions between materials, marrying strength with an extraordinary sense of lightness and refinement.

Born in London, Anna attended Central St. Martins School (ArtFoundation) and Glasgow School of Art (BA). Her work encompasses furniture and lighting design, interiors, a fine jewelry collection, and creative direction. She takes great joy in working across different mediums and aesthetics with an approach that is united by the same principles: The beauty found in the tension between the natural and the manmade, the tension between the familiar and the new, and a ritualistic approach to craftsmanship and detail. A sculptor at heart, Karlin often sculpts hundreds of iterations of each piece, and considers her work usable sculpture. She believes strongly that all forms of design should tell a story and that all the disciplines contribute wonderfully to each other and therefore no one area should remain untouched. Her studio practice, Anna Karlin Furniture + Fine Objects, and Anna Karlin Fine Jewelry, are the result of this sensibility. Anna currently lives and works in New York, USA.

Ines Floor Lamp Edra The Ines floor lamp, created by Italian design house Edra, is a towering, polymorphic lighting sculpture that challenges the boundaries between functional furniture and fine art. Designed by the visionary artist and designer Jacopo Foggini, this extraordinary piece functions as a reimagined, inverted architectural chandelier. Its towering, tree-like structure commands attention, drawing visual inspiration from the surrealism of Salvador Dalí, the elongated figures of sculptor Alberto Giacometti, and the whimsical, Gothic aesthetics of filmmaker Tim Burton. At its core, the lamp is a triumph of radical contemporary craftsmanship. Each piece is entirely molded and finished by hand, ensuring that no two lamps in existence share an identical silhouette or arrangement of matter. The structure features a steel skeleton wrapped in fluid, sinuous branches of hand-painted polycarbonate or ABS plastic. The entire body is coated in a striking "pure gold" finish that replicates the texture and brilliance of liquid, melting metal, catching ambient light even when the lamp is switched off. Functionally, the lamp is engineered to engage in a stylistic dialogue with large-scale interior environments. It was developed specifically to complement and balance the expansive proportions of iconic, statement-scale sofas. The upper canopy features three small, asymmetrically positioned white cotton abat-jour lampshades. These traditional shades host standard E14 bulb sockets, providing a soft, diffused illumination that starkly contrasts with the bold, metallic expressionism of the golden trunk beneath it.

Africa Chair - New Afra and Tobia Scarpa The Africa chair is a landmark postmodern design created by the iconic Italian husband-and-wife duo Afra and Tobia Scarpa in 1975. It is celebrated as a sculptural masterpiece that bridges ancient cabinetmaking traditions with 20th-century architectural precision. Tobia Scarpa was born in Venice in 1935. In 1969, he graduated in Architecture and received the Compasso d'Oro ADI for the Soriana armchair. Over the following years, he received numerous recognitions, and some of his objects are now part of the permanent collections of the world’s most important museums. In architecture, he has worked with public and private clients, including the Benetton Group, for which he designed the industrial complex in Castrette di Villorba, an example of aesthetic-functional excellence displayed at the 2012 Architecture Biennale.
