Dolce&Gabbana Dolce&Gabbana featured the next big winter trend on its catwalks: tweed dresses, coats, jackets and skirts mesh in a total tweed ensemble.

The protagonist of this winter collection are fairytale princesses, like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and so on. Alberta Ferretti Per la stagione invernale 2017 Alberta Ferretti opta invece per decorazioni e motivi che richiamano il regno animale. La stilista romagnola accosta ad un abito corto dalla gonna scampanata stampe che riproducono un manto di leopardo e di tigre. Il risultato è un modello da sera che riesce ad essere finemente bon ton tenendo a bada un’anima aggressiva. Un perfetto equilibrio tra gli abiti più leggeri e impalpabili e quelli più caldi in pelliccia e materiali più invernali, capace di soddisfare così tutte le esigenze femminili.

For the winter 2017 season, Alberta Ferretti has opted for decorations and motifs inspired by the animal kingdom. The Roman designer combines a short dress with a bell-shaped skirt with motifs that recall leopard and tiger coats. The result is an evening outfit that manages to be bon-ton while keeping the aggressive side at bay—the perfect balance between the lighter more intangible clothes and the warmer ones with their furs and wintery materials, all which satisfy the female client.

Una nuova grande installazione dell’artista, coinvolge due facciate dell’edificio rinascimentale con ventidue grandi gommoni di salvataggio arancioni ancorati alle finestre di Palazzo Strozzi: un progetto che porta l’attenzione ai destini dei profughi che ogni giorno rischiano la vita per arrivare in Europa attraversando il Mediterraneo.

Ai Weiwei invades with his extraordinary creative freedom every space of Palazzo Strozzi: the façade, the courtyard, the Piano Nobile and the Strozzina with iconic monumental installations, sculptures and objects which are symbols of his career, and also video works and photographic series with a strong effect.

For the first time, Palazzo Strozzi is used as a unitary exhibition space, thus creating an experience which is completely original for its visitors and allowing the Chinese artist to measure himself with a contest rich in historical solicitations and architectural sparks.

A new and large installation by the artist interests two façades of the Renaissance building with twenty-two orange rescue rafts made of rubber anchored to the windows of Palazzo Strozzi: a project that draws the attention to the fate of the refugees risking their life every day to reach Europe through the Mediterranean Sea.

Il centro del Cortile è invece dominato da Refraction (Rifrazione), una gigantesca ala metallica fatta di pannelli solari resa immobile dalle grandi dimensioni e dal peso di oltre cinque tonnellate, suggestiva metafora della costrizione e della negazione della libertà.

The centre of the courtyard is dominated by Refraction instead, a giant metallic wing made of solar panels that is motionless due to its dimensions and weight of over five tonnes. It is an evocative metaphor for the constriction and negation of freedom.

«Ospitare una simile retrospettiva qui a Firenze significa pensare alla città come a una moderna capitale culturale, non soltanto legata alle vestigia del proprio passato ma finalmente in grado di partecipare in modo attivo all’avanguardia artistica del nostro tempo - dice Arturo Galansino.

“ Hosting a retrospective of this nature in Florence means viewing the city as a modern cultural capital, not simply pegged to the vestiges of its past but able, at long last, to play an active role out in the forefront of artistic developments in our own era.” says Arturo Galansino.

“The adjective ‘free’, which gives the title to the exhibition, refers to the freedom regained by Ai Weiwei in 2015, but also to his totally free and creative way in which he has used and interpreted the spaces of Palazzo Strozzi.”

Mercoledì 7 settembre 2016 un Boeing 767 jumbo jet è decollato da New York City alla volta di Pisa, trasportando 150 benefattori e alcune grandi celebrities americane partecipanti allo straordinario tour alla scoperta delle meraviglie italiane organizzato in occasione della terza edizione della Celebrity Fight Night Italy.

On Wednesday, September 7th, 2016 a Boeing 767 jumbo jet took off from New York City headed to Pisa. On board, there were 150 benefactors and some American celebrities who were participating in the extraordinary tour to discover the Italian wonders, organized on the occasion of the third edition of Celebrity Fight Night Italy.

Tra gli eventi di beneficienza più importanti al mondo, Celebrity Fight Night nasce 22 anni fa da un’iniziativa del celebre pugile scomparso lo scorso 6 giugno, Muhammad Alì, per raccogliere fondi per la ricerca, giunge in Italia nel 2014, grazie all’interessamento e all’invito di Andrea Bocelli, per supportare i progetti legati alla Andrea Bocelli Foundation e al Muhammad Alì Parkinson Center.

Celebrity Fight Night is one of the most important fundraisers in the world; it was founded 22 years ago by the famous boxer, dead on last 6th June Muhammad Ali, to raise funds for research. The Benefit was first held in Italy in 2014 thanks to Andrea Bocelli’s interest in supporting projects followed by the Andrea Bocelli Foundation and the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center.

L’Islanda è un’isola sorprendente, che con i suoi paesaggi mozzafiato e i suoi habitat “estremi” si conferma una meta irrinunciabile per gli amanti dei viaggi nella natura. Non è un caso che proprio qui si trovi la “riserva” più grande d’Europa. Si tratta del Parco Nazionale di Vatnajökull, istituito nel 2008 su una superficie di 12.000 km quadrati.

Iceland’s breathtaking terrain and its “extreme” habitat are a must-see for those who enjoy excursions into nature; in fact, the biggest natural reserve of Europe, the National Park of Vatnajökull, founded in 2008 on 12.000 square km, is in Iceland.

For the true nature-lovers, there are two other parks that must find their way onto the itinerary: Thingvellir Park, which features a lake that hosts endemic species of fish, and Snaefellsjokull National Park,the only park that extends from the coast to the rocky mountaintops, which are overlooked by a volcano and a glacier.

L’escursione sui ghiacciai è un must irrinunciabile per i viaggiatori più esperti. Il più grande del paese è il Vatnajökull che si trova nell’Islanda sud-orientale ma tra i ghiacciai da “non perdere” ci sono anche il Öræfajökull, che sorge sulla vetta più alta d’Islanda e il Langjökull, il secondo più grande del paese che ospita al suo interno due vulcani attivi.

Dalla capitale Reykjavík, nelle belle giornate, è possibile ammirare il Snæfellsjökull, reso celebre dal racconto di Jules Verne, Viaggio al Centro della Terra: proprio da qui iniziava la fantascientifica avventura narrata dallo scrittore francese.

A glacier excursion is a must for the more expert travelers. Protagonista del racconto è appunto Walter Mitty, sognatore ad occhi aperti nonché archivista dei negativi della rivista fotografica Life.

Mitty, per celebrare degnamente la copertina dell’ultimo numero della sua rivista, parte alle ricerca della fotografia “perfetta” e del suo misterioso autore, Sean O’Connell (interpretato da Sean Penn). In un continuo rimando tra realtà e vita immaginata, Mitty abbandona una quotidianità ordinaria per vedersi catapultato nei luoghi più incredibili del pianeta.

Stuart Cornfeld, produttore della pellicola, ha dichiarato: «L’Islanda è un luogo meraviglioso, dove la qualità della luce è davvero diversa da qualsiasi altra al mondo…Guardi in lontananza, puoi guardare all’infinito. È come andare da un mondo a 35-millimetri a un mondo a 70-millimetri».

The movie, released in 2013, celebrates the essence itself of leaving, the research and exploration desire. The main character of the story is indeed Walter Mitty, daydreamer and negative archivist for the photography magazine Life.

Mitty, to celebrate worthily the cover of what would be the last issue of the magazine, leaves in search of the “perfect” photograph and his mysterious author, Sean O’Connell (portrayed by Sean Penn). With continuous jumps across reality and imaginary life, Mitty abandons his ordinary day to see himself catapulted in the most incredible places on the planet.

Stuart Cornfeld, the producer of the movie, has declared: «Iceland is just an amazing place, where the quality of light is truly different from anywhere on Earth…you look off into the distance, you can see forever. It’s like going from a 35-millimeter world to a 70-millimeter world».

L’Íslandus è un siero ottenuto dai frutti di bosco attingendo proprio alle ricette tipiche del paese: nel 2012 si è aggiudicato il premio per l’innovazione ecologica alla fiera del Design di Reykjavik. E la “confezione” è uno dei punti forti di un’altra delizia islandese, la cioccolata Omnom, riconoscibile immediatamente per le figure di animali stilizzate riprodotte sul pacchetto.

Lo Skyr è uno yogurt che fa concorrenza a quelli greci ma che si distingue per il vasetto coloratissimo, con tonalità che cambiano a seconda dei vari gusti. E anche il sale può avere un suo fascino “estetico” come dimostra Saltverk, l’elegante prodotto che nasce dai gayser dell’Islanda nord occidentale.

L’Islandus is a serum obtained from berries of the woods, and is prepared following the typical traditional Icelandic recipes; in fact, Islandus won the ecological innovation prize at the Design Fair in Reykjavik in 2012.

Another Icelandic delight, Omnom chocolate, can be recognized immediately for its beautiful packaging which feature stylized animals prints.

Skyr yogurt, which is very similar to Greek yogurt, distinguishes itself by its colorful little pot which changes color according to the various flavors. Even salt can have its aesthetic appeal! Saltverk is an elegant product that comes from geysers in northeastern Iceland.

Ma anche i “cugini” scandinavi sembrano aver scoperto la ricetta che abbina confezioni accattivanti a prodotti della tradizione: basti pensare alle confetture Danish Selection, caratterizzate da un vasetto semplice ma colorato, o alle splendide bottiglie di Folksaga, il liquore norvegese riconoscibile per le sue etichette fiabesche.

Inspired by the classic animal trophies, the designer from Berlin Holger Hoffman has decided to give birth to a very particular and timeless design, the Papertrophy animals. Colourful, made of high quality ecologic paper, printed and pre-cut in Berlin, checked one by one to guarantee that the cut is perfect and perfectly fitting piece by piece, the Papertrophy present a minimal geometrical design, consisting of hundreds of polygons that adapt perfectly, one into the other.

The structure, organised through the use of polygons, reflects a modern approach, a minimalist Cubist design respectful of the fauna. A project between art and design, created with an amazing simplicity made of shadows and lights, brilliant and vivid colours to give a touch of elegant extravagance to any space.

Eh, sì…una volta acquistati, vanno montati! Ma il designer garantisce che la costruzione di ogni trofeo è stata semplificata il più possibile.

Gorillas, penguins, unicorns, deer, rhinos and more, you are spoilt for choice. The collection consists of five standing figures and five trophies to be hanged on the wall; any of them is composed by hundreds of polygons designed perfectly, in order to guarantee a perfect joint … and, above all, an assisted home-made assembling. Well, yes …once bought, they need to be assembled! But the designer guarantees that it is simplified as much as possible for every trophy.

Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre Pavillion

Un edificio di 90 metri quadrati incastonato nel meraviglioso parco naturale di Dovrefjell. E’ questo il gioiello architettonico realizzato dallo studio norvegese Snøhetta per il Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre Pavilion (Tverrfjellhytta), un progetto nato per ospitare gruppi e visitatori del bellissimo altopiano di Dovre, all’interno del quale ci si può rilassare osservando il paesaggio circostante.

A 90 square metre building set in the wonderful natural park of Dovrefjell. This is the architectural jewel by the Norwegian study Snøhetta for the Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre Pavilion (Tverrfjellhytta). A project which was born to host groups and visitors of the beautiful Dovre plateau and in which you can relax while enjoying the surrounding landscape.

UN CUORE IN LEGNO A HEART MADE OF WOOD Il parco naturale di Dovrefjell rappresenta infatti l’habitat della renna, ma anche della volpe artica, del bue muschiato e di decine di specie botaniche, che hanno fatto da sfondo per secoli a tradizioni di caccia, spedizioni di viaggiatori impavidi, di ricercatori del nord estremo. La zona è anche culla di leggende e miti norvegesi, che ne celebrano una sorta di misticismo.

Insomma, si tratta di un’area dall’alto valore naturalistico e culturale.

The natural park of Dovrefjell represents the habitat of the reindeer, but also of the Arctic fox, the muskhox and dozens of botanical species, which have been part of hunting traditions, expeditions of brave travellers, and researchers of the extreme north for centuries.

The area is also the cradle of Norwegian legends and myths, which celebrates its mysticism. So, an area with a high naturalistic and cultural value.

È proprio basandosi sui concetti di cultura, natura e misticismo che Snøhetta ha progettato il centro. Un parallelepipedo trasparente avvolge un’ambiente dalla forma sinuosa, che ricorda un elemento organico. Fuori un involucro di vetro e acciaio, dentro un cuore di legno plasmato come una roccia erosa dal vento, o dall’acqua. Le superfici plastiche del nucleo, realizzate in legno di pino, disegnano, all’interno come all’esterno, i percorsi e le soste, lasciando che le proprie forme morbide si incavino fino a diventare sedute per i visitatori.

It is by basing on the concept of culture, nature and mysticism that Snøhetta has designed the centre. A transparent parallelepiped envelopes an environment with a sinuous shape, which reminds of an organic element. Outside a case of glass and steel, inside a heart made of wood shaped like a rock eroded by wind, or water. The plastic surfaces of the nucleus, made of pine wood, draw paths and stops inside and outside, letting its morbid shapes to hollow to become sitting spots for visitors.to one of the many Norwegian peaks and, maybe, skiing or snowboarding down of it.

This expedient permits to welcome visitors in a warm and safe place, but guaranteeing a panoramic view thanks to the main façade which is completely transparent and it tries to use the widest and most enjoyable viewpoints that are available.

A case that creates a relationship between the spectator and glimpse of the Scandinavian panorama on different levels of contact.

All used materials are local and their working wants to pay homage to the Norwegian building tradition.

ACCADEMIA DI BELLE ARTI DI CARRARA PRESTIGIO NEL MONDO PRESTIGE IN THE WORLD Fondata il 26 settembre 1769 da Maria Teresa Cybo, duchessa di Massa e principessa di Carrara, con sede nella capitale del Marmo L’Accademia di Belle Arti è da sempre un istituto che con il suo prestigioso corso di scultura attrae studenti da tutto il mondo.

The Accademia di Belle Arti was founded in Carrara on September 26th, 1769 by Maria Teresa Cybo, Duchess of Massa and Princess of Carrara. Its prestigious sculpture courses attracts students from all over the world.

The most talented sculptors from the Napoleonic era traveled to Carrara to personally select the highest quality marble for their sculptures; once in the city, they connected with the Accademia di Belle Arti and many of them, such as Antonio Canova, created and donated pieces and sketches which then went on to make up part of the gypsotech collection.

Gli scultori più illustri dell’epoca napoleonica si recavano a Carrara per scegliere personalmente i marmi più pregiati per le loro opere; una volta in città, entravano in contatto con l’Accademia di Belle Arti.

Molti di loro, fra cui Antonio Canova, realizzarono e donarono alla scuola gessi e bozzetti che andranno poi a costituire la gipsoteca.

Il cortile dell’Accademia ospita così una decina di modelli in gesso del Canova, tra i quali i pugilatori Creugante e Damosseno, la Maddalena giacente, la Danzatrice col dito al mento, un Autoritratto, il gruppo di Venere e Adone ed il monumento funebre dedicato a Vittorio Alfieri. Questi gessi testimoniano il metodo seguito dallo scultore per la realizzazione di un’opera, che si componeva di quattro fasi: il disegno, il bozzetto in terra o in cera, il bozzetto in gesso e infine la realizzazione in marmo.

The Accademia’s courtyard hosts approximately ten of Canova’s plaster models, among which the fighting Creugante e Damosseno, Maddalena Giacente, Danzatrice col dito al mento (Dancer with finger on chin), Autoritratto (Self-portrait), Venere e Adone and the memorial dedicated to Vittorio Alfieri. These plaster models are a testamento to Canova’s method in creating his pieces, which followed four steps: the picture, the sketch in either soil or wax, the plaster model and finally the construction in marble.

Due sono i gessi di grandi dimensioni: l’effigie di Napoleone come Marte Pacificatore e quella della madre Letizia Ramolino Bonaparte. I due modelli furono donati all’Accademia dal Canova in cambio “di due blocchi di marmo da anni giacenti sulla spiaggia di Avenza” destinati al gruppo di Teseo e il Centauro.

A diffuse feeling of eternal shivers among the waves, small ones, of a sea which evokes legendary sailing in the mind; off shore, they resist like ghosts, apparitions of mermaids, to cradle invisible stars that play hideand-seek together with the angels of heaven.

The illusory simplicity of the images may be misleading, as their clearness and their prodigious attraction with which they are able to conquer even the most distracted observer. Conversely, it remains such a profound mystery aura in that arcane intimacy and the painting density amplifies it exaggeratedly.

Ingannevole può risultare l’apparente semplicità delle immagini, la loro nitidezza, la prodigiosa attrazione con la quale esse riescono a conquistare anche il più distratto degli osservatori. Permane viceversa, in quella arcana intimità, un così profondo alone di mistero, che la stessa densità pittorica amplifica a dismisura.

Chiunque guardi senza la necessaria sensibilità e la giusta preparazione questi dipinti è destinato a smarrirsi in curiose incomprensioni. L’estro inimitabile che ambienta una natura evanescente come un sogno, intreccia deliziose cestine, si addentra oltre l’enigmatica soglia di edifici improbabili, sempre sollecitato da una gustosa, finissima ironia, resta cifra esclusiva di un talento che non smette di stupire. In un crescendo espressivo, accompagnato, talvolta, da qualche ponderata divagazione, la pittura raccoglie stimoli assai eterogenei: ne consegue un’ambiguità narrativa enfatizzata da qualche colta citazione, che conferisce ulteriore sapore a quanto minuziosamente raffigurato.

Anyone who is looking at these paintings without having the necessary sensitivity and the right preparation is bound to get lost in curious misunderstandings. The inimitable creativity that sets a nature which is evanescent like a dream, intertwines delightful baskets and penetrates through the enigmatic threshold of unlikely buildings, always stimulated by a tasty and fine irony, is something exclusive of a talent that never ceases to strike. Through an expressive increasing, together with some mindful parenthesis sometimes, the painting gathers stirrings which are very heterogeneous: consequently, there is a narrative ambiguity that is stressed by some cultured quotations that give more taste to what has been depicted in minute details.

Coloro che, equivocando questa affermazione, a volte sono arrivati a imputare a Cargiolli eccessi calligrafici o descrittivi, al limite persino dell’illustrazione, non hanno tenuta senz’altro conto della vocazione classicista di questo eccellente pittore. Allora occorre ricordare le decorazioni della gualdrappa e della giornea di Guido Riccio da Fogliano, tipiche di Simone Martini; la tunica blu oltremare ricamata d’oro del personaggio in piedi sulla destra, ne “La Flagellazioni di Cristo” di Piero della Francesca.

Those who, by misinterpreting this affirmation, have imputed calligraphic or descriptive excesses, almost at an illustration level, have not taken into consideration the classical vocation of this excellent painter. So we need to mention the decorations of the caparison and the day garment of Guido Riccio da Fogliano, which are typical of Simone Martini; the ultramarine blue tunic with golden embroideries of the character standing on the right in “Le Flagellazioni di Cristo” (The flagellations of Christ) by Piero della Francesca.

La sofisticata pettinatura, nella quale è incastonato un sontuoso gioiello, di Battista Sforza, nel “Dittico dei duchi di Urbino”, altro sublime capolavoro del Maestro di Borgo di San Sepolcro. E ancora, il cesto con uva e spighe di grano che l’angelo porge a Maria, nella “Madonna dell’Eucarestia” di Botticelli; il paesaggio insistito sui particolari di foglie e alberi, che lo stesso Botticelli dipinge nell’ “Orazione nell’Orto”.

Questi alcuni simbolici riferimenti dai quali una corretta esagesi del lavoro di Cargiolli non può prescindere.

The refined hairstyle, in which a sumptuous jewel is set, of Battista Sforza in the “Dittico dei duchi di Urbino” (Double portraits of the Urbino dukes), another sublime piece by the master of Borgo di San Sepolcro. And also, the basket with grapes and grain spike that the angel gives to the Virgin Mary in the “Madonna dell’Eucaristia” (Virgin Mary of the Eucharist) by Botticelli; the landscape insisting on leaf and tree details, which Botticelli himself paints in the “Orazione nell’Orto” (Oration in the vegetable garden). These are some of the symbolic references that a correct exegesis of the work of Cargiolli cannot leave out of consideration.

ROBERTO CHIABRERA ISTINTO E PITTURA INSTINCT AND PAINTING Cinzia Chiappini

E’ un’arte difficile da interpretare e forse poco accessibile, ma proprio per questo decisamente affascinante quella di Roberto Chiabrera, artista genovese, classe 1973 che da sempre si cimenta tra pittura e installazioni, trovando sempre forme nuove e spiazzanti. Sì perché la sua produzione è, parole sue, «una conseguenza diretta di precisi momenti passati, immagini congelate nella mente che vengono trasformate in modo istintivo».

Roberto Chiabrera’s art is difficult to interpret and not very accessible, but it’s precisely for these reasons that it is fascinating. Chiabrera, born in 1973 in Genoa, has always concentrated on paintings and installations and has a knack for finding new and surprising forms. His productions are, in his words, “ a direct consequence of precise moments from the past, moments frozen in my mind which are then transformed instinctually.”

Di quell’esperienza però sulla tela si riconosce ben poco perchè, racconta il pittore «l’attimo di modificare le immagini impresse nella mia memoria e di riportarle in essere attraverso la pittura, senza che siano minimamente riconducibili ad un principio, è il passaggio più difficile del mio iter».

What then ends up on the canvas as the final product is a far cry from the explanation because, he says, “the moment that I modify the images impressed in my mind and bring them back to life through painting, without allowing them to be immediately retraced to their origin, is the most difficult passage of my journey.”

Quella di Chiabrera è dunque un’espressività faticosa, quasi dolorosa o, come dice lui, “paradossale” perchè frutto di una trasformazione continua che tende ad allontanarsi costantemente dal reale attraverso una sorta di trasfigurazione del non finito. «Forse per questo i miei dipinti sono eseguiti in modo veloce con una quasi isteria di fondo» aggiunge l’artista che confessa di prendere spesso spunto dalla «rielaborazione del dolore fisico, della sofferenza e della fine».

Chiabrera’s expression is difficult, almost painful, or as he says, “paradoxical”, as it is the fruit of a continous transformation that tends to constantly distance itself from reality through a sort of infite transfiguration.

“Perhaps that is why my paintings are produced quickly, with almost a hysterical undertone,” added Chiabrera, who confessed to finding inspiration from the “re-elaboration of physical pain, suffering and the end.”

Davanti a queste opere lo spettatore rimane stupito e confuso ma proprio per questo anche affascinato: «Mi piace lasciarlo in un limbo d’incomprensione di fronte ad una sorta di rappresentazione del “nulla” e ad una pittura che – ammette l’artista - definisco fallimentare, disastrata ma soprattutto d’impossibile lettura».

In front of these works, the spectator find himself astounded and confused, but also fascinated: “I like leaving a limbo of incomprehension in front of a sort of representation of ‘nothing’ and in front of a painting that I find a failure, disastrous but avove all impossible to read,” says the artist.

Difficile così risalire o anche solo intuire quello che ha mosso la mano del pittore: «Forse – conclude Chiabrera - quello che cerco davvero attraverso i miei lavori è un annientamento della figura e del rapporto con questo mondo»

It’s difficult to discover or even guess what inspires the painter: “Maybe,” concludes Chiabrera, “what i’m searching for through my works is an annihilations of the figure and its relationship with this world.”

The painting project 12 Hours is inspired by a dramatic experience, an agony and a death. In this project, the painting becomes a protest against pain, and a means to re-elaborate it as a “technical therapy”.

Il progetto pittorico 12 Ore nasce da un’esperienza drammatica, un’agonia e una morte. In questo progetto la pittura diventa protesta contro il dolore e un mezzo, una “terapia tecnica” per rielaborarlo.

Il nucleo dell’antico Spedale Nuovo, realizzato a partire dall’anno 1257 su progetto attribuito a Giovanni di Simone e concluso nel 1337, si affaccia sulla Piazza del Duomo, costituendo la porzione prevalente del suo fronte meridionale.

The core of the old Spedale Nuovo (New hospital), whose building started in 1257 on the design attributed to Giovanni di Simone and which finished in 1337, overlooks the Cathedral Square and it represents the main portion of the square south border.

Esso è conosciuto anche come Spedale di Papa Alessandro perché la sua edificazione fu imposta dal Pontefice nel momento in cui egli tolse alla città di Pisa la scomunica impartita dal suo predecessore a seguito dell’uccisione e della cattura di alcuni legati pontifici in una battaglia navale combattuta nel 1241.

It is known also as the Pope Alexander Spedale, as its building was imposed by him when he revoked the excommunication of Pisa, which was issued by his predecessor after the killing and the capture of some papal delegates during a naval battle in 1241.

I LAVORI DI RESTAURO RESTORATION WORKS

In epoca successiva la facciata fu radicalmente modificata con l’inserimento del portale in pietra serena e delle grandi finestre sottolineate da cornici, anch’esse in pietra. Nel 1830 l’edificio fu ampliato verso ovest così come documentato da un rilievo del 1862 e da alcune fotografie riprese nei primi anni del novecento.

Prima dell’inizio dell’intervento di restauro, la facciata principale verso la Piazza del Duomo risultava interamente a vista, essendo stato rimosso l’intonaco nel 1915.

Il restauro della facciata è stato condotto con l’obiettivo primario della conservazione materiale dei singoli elementi costitutivi, fatte salve le integrazioni che si fossero rese inevitabili.

During a following age, the façade was radically modified through the addition of the gate made of pietra serena and the great windows highlighted by frames, which are made of stone too. In 1830, the building was enlarged toward west as it is registered by a relief of 1862 and some pictures from the early 20th century.

Before the restoration work, the main façade looking at the Cathedral Square was entirely visible, as the plaster was removed in 1915. The restoration of the façade aimed primarily to the safeguard of the materials of the single constituting elements, apart from the integrations that would have been inevitable.

UN NUOVO VOLTO A NEW APPEARANCE

Il laterizio è stato ripulito dalla vegetazione e dai depositi di polveri e muffe; interventi di sostituzione o integrazione sul paramento e sul cornicione di coronamento sono stati eseguiti, utilizzando materiale in tutto analogo a quello adiacente. Il basamento in pietra ha richiesto una microsabbiatura per rimuovere diffuse macchie di catramina mentre la facciata corrispondente all’ampliamento verso ovest è stata intonacata.

L’aspetto più delicato da affrontare era costituito dal restauro delle cornici in pietra serena delle finestre.

L’intervento ha comportato la posa in opera di nuove porzioni di cornici laddove mancanti; riguardo alle rimanenti, si è proceduto con la stuccatura e con il raccordo delle varie parti attraverso l’uso di idonei prodotti di colore identico a quello della pietra esistente, così da eliminare ogni rottura senza procedere a ricostruzioni che sarebbero state eccessive e in taluni casi di difficile esecuzione.

L’intervento ha infine compreso anche la sostituzione degli infissi delle finestre, che hanno mantenuto la tipologia ed il disegno uguali a quelli esistenti .

The brick material has been cleaned from the vegetation and from dust and mould; replacements or integrations on the battlements and the cornice have been carried out, by using a material analogous to the adjacent one. The stone base has required a micro-sandblasting to remove several tar stains, whereas the façade corresponding to the enlargement towards west has been plastered.

The most delicate part of the work has been the restoration of the pietra serena frames of the windows. The work has implicated placing new portions of the frames where they were missing; for what concerns what has endured, the plastering and connecting of the various part have been done through the use of products whose colour is identical to that of the existing stone, in order to eliminate every damage without excessive and sometimes difficult to do rebuilding.

The restoration work has been concluded with the replacement of shutters and frames of windows, which have maintained the same typology and design of the existing ones.

Gnocco croccante con baccalà, pomodoro del piennolo e polvere d’olive taggiasche

Crispy gnocchi with salted codfish, piennolo tomato and powder of taggiasca olives Ingredients:

Ingredienti:

For the gnocchi (dumpling): 500 g boiled potatoes 150 g corn starch 1 egg Salt, pepper, nutmeg as required

Per lo gnocco: 500 gr patata lessa 150 gr maizena 1 uovo sale, pepe, noce moscata q.b.

For the sauce: 500 g piennolo tomato 50 g extra virgin oil Salt as required Two leaves of basil

Per la salsa: 500 gr di pomodoro del piennolo 50 gr olio extra vergine sale qb due foglie di basilico PREPARAZIONE: Far sbollentare le patate schiacciarle con l’apposito schiaccia patate far raffreddare, poi aggiungere la maizena, l’uovo e le spezie, impastare il tutto e far riposare una decina di minuti, fare dei bigoli e tagliarli di una lunghezza di 6 cm Prendere il pomodoro del piennolo frullarlo nel mixer portarlo a 60°c aggiungendo olio extra vergine d’oliva sale e una fogliolina di basilico Far essiccare le olive taggiasche in forno a 50°c per 12 ore poi frullare rendendo tutto in polvere.

Far cuocere il baccalà a vapore per circa 6-7 minuti aromatizzando l’acqua con scorzetta di limone e timo, una volta cotto sfogliarlo privandolo della pelle condendolo con olio, pepe, limone grattuggiato e, se manca, un pizzico di sale.

Prendiamo il nostro piatto di portata e mettiamo sul fondo la nostra salsa di pomodoro. Sovrapponiamo i nostri gnocchi rosolati in padella con un filino d’olio, mettiamo le nostre falde di baccalà e spolveriamo con la polvere d’oliva e decoriamo con dei germogli.

PREPARATION: Boil the potatoes, then smash it with the proper tool and leave them to cool, then add the corn starch, the egg and the spices and mix everything. Let it rest for about 10 minutes, shape the mixture into vermicelli-like pasta and cut it to obtain 6 cm long pieces.

Blend the piennolo tomato with a blender, and then cook it in a pan reaching 60°C and adding extra virgin oil, salt and one leaf of basil.

Dry the taggiasca olives in the oven at 50°C for 12 hours and then blend them to obtain a powder.

Steam the salted codfish for about 6-7 minutes, flavouring the water with the skin of a lemon and thyme, once it is cooked, peel it off and season with oil, pepper, grated lemon and, if needed, a pinch of salt.

Let’s take our serving dish and pour the tomato sauce on it.

Arrange the sautéed gnocchi by overlapping them and drizzling oil over them, then place the codfish slices, dust with the olive powder and decorate with buds.

Il giardino venne realizzato, agli inizi del Giovanni Caluri per la famiglia Scotto che av 16 nel 1798 la fortezza appartenuta a Pietro Leo na. Negli anni Trenta del secolo scorso l’ar giardino pubblico comunale ed è oggi utilizza pinti di teatrali.

The National Museum of San Matteo4 hosts important medieval collections of paintings and sculptures from Pisa, wooden sculptures, and parchment manuscripts.

The Basilica Romanica9, in San Piero a Grado, is situated in the place where legend says Petere the apostle disembarked in the year 44 A.C. Museum of Calculus Instruments10, where several of Galileo Galilei’s instruments can be found, such as the “Compasso Geometrico et Militare”

can be found.

The Lungarni12 has been written about by authors such as Byron, Shelley, Montesquieu, Leopardi, Carducci, D’Annunzio and Foscolo.

PLACES OF ART AND HISTORY Tuttomondo13 is the last and greatest work of art in Europe of the American artist Keith Haring The Museum of Graphic Art14, in the rooms of Palazzo Lanfranchi sui Lungarni, hosts the collections of Gabinetti Designs and prints from the History of Art Department of the University of Pisa.

The Palazzo Blu15, ex Palazzo Giuli Dell’Agnello, is one of the most imposing palaces on the Lungarno Gambacorti.

The Old Shipyard16 can be found just outside the walls of the medieval city, towards the sea.

GREEN SITES The Botanical Garden17 of the University of Pisa was founded in 1544 and is, therefore, the oldest university botanical garden in the world.

The Scotto Garden18 weaves history with nature, and was founded at the beginning of the 19th century.

La moda è arte?

Una semplice domanda nasconde il complesso universo di una relazione articolata, su cui si è indagato a lungo nel corso del tempo, senza mai giungere però a una definizione chiara o univoca. Il presente progetto analizza le forme di dialogo tra questi due mondi: contaminazioni, sovrapposizioni e collaborazioni. Dalle esperienze dei Preraffaelliti a quelle del Futurismo, dal Surrealismo al Radical Fashion. Nel percorso si focalizza l’attenzione sul lavoro di Salvatore Ferragamo, affascinato e ispirato dalle avanguardie artistiche del Novecento; su alcuni atelier degli anni cinquanta e sessanta, luogo di studio e d’incontri; e sulla nascita della cultura della celebrità, per proseguire con le sperimentazioni degli anni novanta e arrivare a domandarsi se nell’industria culturale contemporanea si possa ancora parlare di due mondi distinti, o se invece siamo di fronte a un fluido gioco di ruoli.

La particolarità del piano espositivo e del catalogo risiede nella collaborazione con altre istituzioni culturali, che hanno partecipato attivamente alla realizzazione dell’idea, con l’obiettivo di invitare a una riflessione comune: oltre al Museo Salvatore Ferragamo, promotore e organizzatore del progetto insieme alla Fondazione Ferragamo, a Firenze la Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale, le Gallerie degli Uffizi (la Galleria d’arte moderna e la Galleria del Costume di Palazzo Pitti), il Museo Marino Marini e, a Prato, il Museo del Tessuto.

Pre-Raphaelites to those of Futurism, and from Surrealism to Radical Fashion. The exhibition itinerary focuses on the work of Salvatore Ferragamo, who was fascinated and inspired by the avant-garde art movements of the 20th century, on several ateliers of the Fifties and Sixties that were venues for studies and encounters, and on the advent of the culture of celebrities. It then examines the experimentation of the Nineties and goes on to ponder whether in the contemporary cultural industry we can still talk about two separate worlds or if we are instead dealing with a fluid interplay of roles.

The distinctive aspect of the exhibition layout and the catalogue lies in the collaboration with other cultural institutions, which took an active part in implementing this concept with the aim of inspiring joint reflection: in addition to the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo, promotor and organizer of the project together with the Fondazione Ferragamo, in Florence the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale, the Gallerie degli Uffizi (the Galleria d’arte moderna and the Galleria del Costume di Palazzo Pitti), the Museo Marino Marini, and in Prato the Museo del Tessuto.
