A while back, I was given a coffee table photography book ‘Toy Giants’ published by Gingko Press 2009. This stunning photographic exploration of vintage and modern designer toys bought to light that clever photography can instil life into the lifeless. An uncanny realism is present when toys are photographed as portraits.

My collection of pop culture statues and action figures has ebbed and flowed over the years and, in 2015, I had the idea to document my collection before selling some older collectibles (to make room for new additions) and my Plastic Passion project began to take form.

Plastic Passion showcases photographic and digital techniques, capturing action figures as still-life, showing imperfect details, models in macro, serious toys and poised statues - all intended as art, as portraiture, for fun and as something more profound than the fake-plastic-realism of their existence. The art of making and playing!
