Senior Initiative Project Overview For my Senior Initiative project, I tried making three dimensional work for the first time. I studied the human figure and face, completing a total of four pieces. I used air-dry clay over a support of wire and tin foil on a foam-core base. The most challenging aspect of this project was making a solid and accurate armature.

Senior Initiative Project Overview My project is a pod cast episode in which five artists and writers discuss their feelings on the Harlem Renaissance and whether they feel it still has an influence on today's artists. The discussions cover topics from gentrification to the power of the youth. The artists involved are pictured below in this order: Marc Polite, John Morning, Margaret Rose Vend ryes, Jonathan McCrory, and Anthony Del Col

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Competitive Debate ii

Senior Initiative Project Overview My project had three components, all pertaining to making high school debate more equitable. First, I continued working with Beyond Resolved, an organization for equity in speech and debate that I have worked with since my sophomore year. I helped mainly with the scholarship and mentorship programs, and continued administrative responsibilities. Second, I wrote a blog post exploring a past debate topic that was of personal importance to me, "Resolved: The United States federal government should increase its quota of H-1 B visas." I examined the history of both "high skilled" immigration and Asian immigration and labor movements in the United States, as well as how high schoolers interacted with the topic. Finally, I interviewed students across the country about how they were effected by marginalization in the activity, and what they wish judges knew before the round. I took that information, as well as my own research and resources from Dalton's office of DEi, and made a presentation that tournament directors and coaches can use to educate judges before competitions.

Project Images Come see our Senior Initiative Presentation! I will do an oral presentation, first going over why diversity, equity, and inclusion, in high school debate is important to me, then what I have learned during my senior initiative, and finally demonstrate a portion of my judge training presentation.

Training for a Spartan Race iiiJune 8, 2021 .1. c21 rs1

Senior Initiative Project Overview After a year spent in quarantine, and few opportunities to participate in outdoor activities or spend quality time with friends, we knew from the outset that we wanted our senior initiative to be a project that allows us to challenge ourselves physically, creatively, spiritually, and socially. A Spartan Race, and the immense amount of training that goes into it, accomplished all of this. We have been training every other weekday using a combination of online resources and friends and family who have competed before. In addition, we've tried to change our lifestyles in order to prepare mentally as well as physically. We have started each training day with meditation and end with listening to a podcast called "Spartan Up!", which instructs its listeners about how to prepare for these demanding races mentally. We have learned new recipes using the Spartan diet plan and consulted a nutritionist that Cassie has worked with for her gymnastics training. Our race will be a Sk on August 14th which will be our opportunity to put all of our training to use. Because we have set a hard date on which our goal will culminate, we have created parameters for ourselves which will force us to be absolutely committed to our training and preparation: our self-improvement will begin immediately. Crawling under barbed wire and climbing monkey bars doesn't just work your muscles; this race will test our mental capacity as we must learn to effectively strategize and plan-ahead.

Senior Initiative Project Overview In my capacity as an Editor-in-Chief of The Daltonian, I created a Middle School section of the paper for my initiative. I communicated with 8th grade English teachers and gathered a group of 10 interested 8th grade writers. They're each writing a piece to be released in the final issue of The Daltonian this year. Students experimented with interviewing individual teachers, releasing surveys to their grade at large and learning the basics of journalistic writing. I've communicated with next year's Editors-in-Chief and anticipate that this project will not only continue in the coming year, but expand to more in the Middle School. Look out for the students' articles in Issue
