HEALTH & WELLNESS
OVERVIEW
Dalton’s K-12 Health & Wellness Program is committed to cultivating the student’s authentic self and equipping them with skills to navigate their social landscape mindfully. Because health cannot be experienced equally due to the systemic and social barriers in place, health education is social justice education.
Reflecting on their community, mental health, sexuality, and nutrition through a social justice and health science lens, students examine their identity, values, and role as an ally to effect change and make healthy decisions that impact the physical, emotional, and social self.
Specifically, if students are supported to understand their identity and embody reflective practices, they will have reached the first step in acquiring agency around their well-being. The Health & Wellness program aims to support a culture of healing from the traumas of White supremacy and to foster a sense of belonging as means to liberate students to express their authentic self.
