Active Vacation Interaction of Experience

Dear All! When you read this and the world of diversity, rich nature, cultural heritage and the beauty of central Dalmatia opens up in front of you the image of the region will be enriched to the tune of about a hundred new agency programmes created and presented to bring all of its special qualities closer. Split-Dalmatia County is an area rich in diversity where low green islands complement the coast and add amazing nautical and cultural experiences, historical city-centres and archaeological sites under UNESCO protection, in addition to the green heart of the Dalmatian hinterland, where life flourishes along rivers, in mills and in fields, not to mention the traditional culinary delights of the region. Central Dalmatia links the ancient past with a rich history and contemporary trends in tourism, to provide products for relaxation, fun, adventure vacations, learning and enjoyment, to satisfy all market niches for our guests. However, putting all the natural advantages of Split-Dalmatia County into a harmonious and diverse tourist package is only possible with the cooperation of the travel agencies who create and implement professional and expertly delivered tourist products. Therefore, we are pleased that our agency partners recognize Split-Dalmatia County as an area where they can creatively express themselves in their programmes. Welcome to Central Dalmatia - the heart of the Adriatic. Sincerely, Joško Stella, Director of Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board

Dear All, It is my great honour and pleasure to introduce new tourism programmes displaying a wealth of tourist packages in Split-Dalmatia County. The programmes are designed to achieve an extension of the tourist season and a maximisation of the tourism potential of the country. Split-Dalmatia County is one of the leading Croatian counties in terms of tourist business in 2014 and each year it grows significantly. Precisely for this reason, these programmes should further highlight the cooperation of local tourist offices and travel agencies as a key factor in the development of tourist attractions. It should be noted that the travel programmes are divided into three categories: active leisure, cultural heritage and oenological and gastronomic tourism. Special emphasis is placed on the particular interests of tourists where additional activities and facilities are available, and the locations are promoted from the point of view of other forms of tourism apart from the classic aspects of the locations (the sun and the sea). The Association of Croatian Travel Agencies in this project acts as a link between all the participants, and we sincerely hope that in the future we will continue our successful cooperation with the Croatian Ministry of Tourism, local tourist boards and local and foreign tourist agencies. We believe that these tourist packages will greatly contribute to the global recognition of tourist activities on offer in Split-Dalmatia County. Boris Žgomba President of the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies

When we define the term cultural heritage, we find an interesting combination. The word culture comes from the Latin colere, which means: to inhabit, cultivate, protect, honour. The word heritage refers to property that is inherited from some earlier time. The cultural heritage of Split-Dalmatia County is an interesting blend of different historical periods and cultures. Upon arrival in Dalmatia, you feel that with each step you enter a different period. The traditions and customs which have been kept for centuries always delight the tourists and awaken in them a desire to discover more of the culture and to return to the region. Each historical building has its own story; each myth is linked to an historical event, and behind every custom is an old tradition. War and conquest did not leave desolation, but many monuments and reminders of ancient times. And the stone, emerging from deep rock, still shines with great splendour, giving us a glimpse of the vistas that inhabitants here have been accustomed to on a daily basis. Buildings, crafts, customs and traditions are rooted in the culture of this region. Peaking behind the wooden shutters, sitting on the stone sill of a house, and greeting newcomers with a welcome inherent in Dalmatia. Romans and Christians, the ancient Greeks and Ottomans, all have left their prints and have made Split-Dalmatia County very interesting and very different. Join us in discovering Dalmatia. From the customs and traditions and architecture, to the songs of klape. With all the benefits of the 21st century, you will experience the spirit of ancient times, walk the sidewalks which emperors walked, and you will discover a culture created by some of the world’s most famous rulers.

The Island of Vis – Military Base and Key to The Adriatic sightseeing of the most important historical sites; tour of the former military tunnels; labyrinth of underground tunnels; RAF’s airport from the 1944, Tito’s cave, peak of Hum, visit the forts and fortresses and Archaeological Museum

The island of Vis is an island of beauty and rich history. Vis is the island of the Illyrians, Greeks and Romans. It was under the power of the Venetians, Austrians and Hungarians, as well as the English and French. The most prominent generals and commanders walked the island of Vis, the Allied forces landed their planes there, and naval battles took place there. Vis was strategically important. When under the control of England it was known as the key to the Adriatic, as the Adriatic Gibraltar, and most commonly as little Malta. Because of its military functions during the second part of the 20th century, it was commercially isolated with only modestly developed tourist, agricultural and economic activity. Vis is recognized as one of the most fortified islands and its role as a strategically important location is reflected in the numerous forts, underground tunnels and military bases. Find out why, throughout history, many militaries fought for control over Vis, and with the help of professional guides explore this mysterious island.

Look into the depths of the Universe, its secrets, and strange and spectacular events, rare or regular, will awaken in us a wonderful sense of belonging to something much bigger than ourselves, and help us “not to pass small under the stars” (A. B. Šimić: Opomena - The warning). Familiarize yourself with the night sky in the Split, Makarska and Hvar Observatory. Enjoy a clear view of the night sky, moon and meteors, and let the mystery of the Sun and its spots enchant you. Learn about the history of the region all the way from the ancient times of the dinosaurs, which once observed the same night sky.

The following peoples who made their mark in the field of culture, architecture and religion were the Romans, Venetians, Austro-Hungarians, and the French. Monuments and remains witness the great transformations from one culture to another. These transformations are evident in every aspect of life, and shaped the people and culture of today. Historical and Natural Treasures in The Town of Vis visit to the remains of the ancient Issa: spas, theatres, city walls; Gospina Bataria a collection of historical artefacts; the Roman baths and Martvilo; natural beauty: the Blue and Green Caves and Stiniva Bay

The town of Vis is a jewel of historical and cultural heritage. Recent studies have shown that it is the oldest Croatian town, though Stari Grad on the island of Hvar was for a long time considered to be so. The island was already inhabited in the Neolithic period, and since then the Illyrians, the Greeks, the Romans, the Venetians and the Austro-Hungarians have inhabited it. All these peoples have left their mark on the island in the ways of living, the styles of building, and the beliefs. Apart from hearing stories from the ancient past and seeing monuments, you will hear interesting stories from the recent past. As with anywhere, myths and legends are the most memorable and cherished aspects of a culture. Walking and looking around town, listen to the whispers of inhabitants past and present. In addition to its rich history, Vis boasts many unusual natural phenomena, like the Modra (Blue) and Zelena (Green) špilje (caves). At a certain point of the day, a magic of light happens within them, and you can be a part of it.

Antiquity in Split, Solin and Trogir tour of Diocletian’s palace with a guide; if requested, we can climb the tower of St. Duje; Split Archaeological Museum; visit to Salona where we will learn more about its importance and role in ancient times; visit to Trogir

You will have read and learnt about famous stories of Greek and Roman history and mythology. Can you imagine standing on the ground or walking the streets where the heroes of these stories once walked? You do not need to travel to Italy or Greece to experience part of their culture and way of life. The ancient nations recognized the Croatian coast as an ideal place for settlement. Plenty of monuments testify to this fact. The town centre of Split is an ancient building. It was built as the palace of the famous Roman emperor Diocletian. Inside the palace, you will learn about the beliefs, lifestyle and culture of that period of the Roman Empire. Ancient Salona and Tragurio are near Split, with the remains of ancient cultures. Walking down these streets, we also see how new cultures have created history in the architectural sense, and at the same time have transformed pagan and polytheistic centres into centres of monotheistic Christian culture.

From Stari Grad to Hvar Town tour of the Stari Grad field, the Dominican monastery in Stari Grad and Tvrdalj of Hektorović family; Hvar: Fortification of Arsenal, the town and the Duke’s palace; Pakleni otoci (Palmižana)

Besides being rightfully proud for being the sunniest island in the Adriatic, the island of Hvar is famous for having the second oldest town in Croatia, Stari Grad. Evidence of this is the name that derives from the ancient name of Pharos, according to settlers from the island of Paros in the Aegean Sea. In addition to the embossed markings of the living culture of the ancient Greeks, the native Illyrians also left traces of their culture. Come and hear about the war stories of these two nations, the great Dionysius of Syracuse, and the love story of Demetrius of Pharos and the Illyrian Queen Teuta, and about his later betrayal. Next are stories and monuments from the Middle Ages on the arrival of the Croats and their migration to the southwestern part of the island Novi Grad, today’s Hvar, whose history dates back to Illyrian and Roman times (settlement of Heraclea). In The Wake of Poljički Glagolitic Gornja, Donja and Srednja Poljica; early Christian church in Gata; graves in Tugare; hexagonal baptistery; Church of St. John, St. Peter, Priko in Omiš, Church of St. George; Starigrad Fortress, Omiš; Brač, Blaca Desert, Split

This trip focuses on the Poljička republic and Split, at a time when the Poljica played a significant role in the defence of the medieval historical area of Dalmatia during the Turkish conquest. The Poljička principality or republic was located in the Split - Omiš - Trilj triangle, which was a mountainous and inaccessible area. In the wake of the Glagolitic from Poljica we will follow the medieval remains of Christian culture in this area. Clergymen, who held the Mass for centuries in the Glagolitic language, lived with their parishioners in some of the villages. They were not classically trained, but they lived and breathed with their flock. Their work is distinguished at a unique location in the Blace Desert on the island of Brač, where they preserved the memory of the valuable Poljičke forces and the cooperation between man and nature.

Illyricum Sacrum - Written History Salona, the former port of the Illyrian tribes of Dalmatia; Manastirine, the old Christian cemetery; the tomb of St. Duje; Split, Diocletian’s Palace, old town, the Archaeological Museum

Stone too has a soul! The first archaeologists of early Christianity, during the excavation of Salona, said that you had to get a good look at the eyes of stone, feel it and press your ear to hear what it says. Salona holds a significant place in the world among experts on early Christianity and those who love history, which is evidenced by the fact that after the discovery of the basilica and cemetery, there took place here the First International Congress of Christian Archaeology in 1894. We will be introduced to the pulse of a state that is inseparable from the area where it had been since the Apostle St. Paul and his followers, when in Salona the calendar was divided between BC and AD. The famous phrase of St. Jerome says something about the interesting and peculiar temperament of Dalmatian people: “Parce mihi Domine, quia, Dalmata sum.” “Forgive me, Lord, for I a Dalmatian.”

The other story of stone participating in creative workshops in making stone dresses and souvenirs; sightseeing tour of the island of Brac with a focus on the stone tradition; excursions to the island of Hvar, Split or Dubrovnik

The story of stone on the island of Brac is well known: its life in the houses, streets, and bell towers, the story of its history and tradition, the continuity of masonry and again of the stone itself. However there is another story, of stone and the island of Brac as well, which is something different and more gentle. It originates from the centuries-old tradition of sculpture, and the stonemasonry activities of the Jakšic family, who developed the working of stone at different levels: from the creation of architectural and decorative features, to the production of unique objects and designs, and the production of souvenirs. The idea was to use everything that could be used from the excess stone left over after being worked on in the stonemasonry workshop. In the works of designer Ida Jakšic, in her souvenirs and and clothing designs, we experience recurring delight in their innovation and uniqueness, and in the way the stone always comes to life. Participate in the creative workshop, unleash your imagination and give the stone some new form of life!

Oenological and Gastronomic Experiences

40

Nowadays, food is far from the mere need for survival. It is an experience, part of the joy, the love and the memory of a place. Dalmatia was poor in the past. It had stone, a little bit of fertile land, a few sources of water and plenty of sun. The blue sea and the white rocks captivated people and caused them to stay and find a way of living here. Since ancient times the islands have been green with grape vines, and while olive trees grudgingly kept every drop of morning dew, the persistence and hard work of people created what we are proud of in the present time. They made a lot from very little, a wealth from miserly resources. The food was simple and healthy. Hardworking hands in the old kitchens and fireplaces gave it a special charm and made what we now consider to be delights. Soparnik, beef stew, and ‘lamb baked under the bell’ are just some of the dishes that adorn the tables of this region. Throughout a turbulent history, the recipes of old grandmothers were guarded and perfected, complemented with new spices and flavours, which appreciated the fruits of nature and hard work. Split-Dalmatia County is the perfect place to enjoy rich oenological and gastronomic delights. Various types of wine tell their stories today. Wine represents a history that goes into every vine and every leaf swaying on the land in this county. An historical story, for which we do not need books, is woven into each cluster of produce and each dish of Dalmatian cuisine. Just try one Dalmatian dish and you will open the page of a new book. You will take a fraction of Dalmatia with you. Perhaps a new recipe, a new taste, or a bottle of good wine or olive oil.

Wine, olives and stone on the island of Brač Senjković winery in Dračevica and wine tasting, vineyard tour; strong wine in winery in Bol, representing all varieties, the history of the winery; going to the olive grove, olive harvest and preparation for the production of oil; tour of Bol

The combination of sea, sun and karst has been recognized as necessary for growing certain crops, especially grapes and olives, the so-called “foods of the gods”. Local residents today maintain the traditions of their ancestors. So all of you lovers of good wine and Mediterranean food, are welcome to the farming community island of Brač. We will walk through the famous vineyards of the island where, besides tasting wine, you will learn all about the process of its creation. Who knows, maybe the hardworking tenants need an extra pair of hands so you will be able to help! When we talk about wine, let’s not forget the Mediterranean dishes that go with it, which would not taste so fantastic were it not for the olive oil. On this tour you can play a small part of in olive oil making, by experiencing the olive grove, the harvesting and the preparation for the oil mill.

The story of Plavac Mali learning about the Croatian enological tradition, wine and wine production; learning about the scientific study of the origins of Plavac Mali and establishing its relation to Zinfandel and Primitivo; visit to the vineyards and wine tasting

People have always traveled in search of a better life, often taking with them only their nearest and dearest and their most valuable possesions. Kaštelanski Crljenak is an old, almost forgotten Croatian wine, which has recently captured the attention of the domestic and foreign wine-making public. More particularly, it was established that Kaštelanski Crljenak and the American wine Zinfandel are in fact the same wine, which helped solve the mystery of its origin. This wine, well-known as Zinfandel, was brought from the Imperial State Nursery of Vienna to Long Island in the United States in the early 19th century, where it became highly valued. After arriving in California, it spread rapidly, especially during the so-called Gold Rush, and later became the most widespread wine in America. Enjoy this interesting story first-hand. Visit some of the top wineries and wine cellars of the Croatian south, find out about the wine production and origins of Plavac Mali, and let yourself enjoy the taste and aroma of fine wine.

A ubiquitous and civilized love of pleasure is what attracts wine lovers to this region. Bread Under The Bell in Kaštil Slanica culinary workshop on the preparation of bread in original conditions by the fireplace with a crackling fire and the smell of smoke; mentoring housewives will tell each guest their secrets, which carve deep into the past

Kaštil Slanica was known from the 12th to the 14th centuries as a safe haven for pirates from Omiš. From the 14th century, there was a station for the sale of salt, and today it is a monument from the 16th century and a restaurant where many people like to hang out. And with good reason! Located in the heart of the Cetina canyon, the natural scenery of the crystal green river, the whiteness of the canyon and the Island of Love, Kaštil Slanica links its cuisine to the environment and past dishes from the canyon, the sea and the rocks of Omiš. Homemade bread is the hallmark of the restaurants in this region. Prepared in the way our ancestors prepared it, using fire to bake it, it is prepared daily in the restaurants. The uniqueness of the preparation which relies on old Dalmatian traditions, gives to each guest a memorable experience.

Preparation of Soparnik in The Restaurant Kaštil Slanica culinary workshop on soparnik preparation in original conditions by the fireplace with crackling fire and the smell of smoke; mentoring housewives will reveal to each guest their secrets of preparation, which will stay in the in memory of the guests

From the 12th to the 14th century a safe haven for the pirates of Omiš, from the 14th century a salt trading station, and today a cultural monument from the 16th century and a restaurant. All this is Kaštil Slanica. Located in the heart of the Cetina canyon, the beautiful river, the white stone and the Island of Love, Kaštil Slanica bases its cuisine on dishes from the canyon, from the sea and the rocks of Omiš. Soparnik is a dish traditionally linked to the Poljička Republic. Eventually, it was transmitted to the hinterland of Omiš. Today, it is listed as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage, and its preparation is a real culinary feast. Most often, it is prepared before church holidays. Although simple in ingredients, now in some places they add nuts, suvica, and other ingredients. The soparnik that we prepare in our restaurant is close to the original, has a salty taste, and the very best red wine from the Omiš vineyards should accompany it.

When Grgich’s Chardonnay wine won the prize in Paris in 1976, everything changed. French wines lost their primacy, and American wines introduced something new and fresh to the wine map of the world. Grgich was acknowledged by the Smithsonian Museum as one of the hundred most famous Americans and Zinfandel has become one of the most successful American red wines. But this created a mystery which for decades teased wine lovers: where did Zinfandel originate from? Only a few years ago DNA research showed that Zinfandel is actually Crljenak, an almost extinct variety of wine from Dalmatia. Come visit Dalmatia, the homeland of Zinfandel! Visit the vineyards and wineries of Kaštele for a historic meeting with Crljenak. Then make a visit to the winery on the island of Hvar to taste the wines of indigenous varieties such as Bogdanuša and Prč, and Plavac Mali, the closest relative of Zinfandel.

What Did The Emperor Diocletian Eat? Salona, an introduction to Roman cousine; Gašpina mills where peasants from the hinterland would grind grains, while those from the island waited in boats strung along the river bank for their turn; Klis, learning about food and spices from the time of Diocletian

The Roman emperor Diocletian is one of Rome’s most famous rulers. He retired from government and left it to his younger successors. In his retirement, Diocletian spent time planting vegetables in the garden of the palace. On one occasion, when he was invited to return to the throne, he reportedly said that if those who call him could see the cabbage he had planted with his own hands, they would never have asked him to swap the peace and happiness of his palace life for the turmoil of never satisfying greed. Even today in Split the pots gush with ancient aromas and flavours, the echoes of historical messages from his basement. In Salona, in Gašpina mill, one of the last surviving mills on the River Jadro, and in Klis, we will learn about food and spices from the time of Diocletian, and when we taste the dishes, for a moment we’ll go back in time.

Dalmatia – The Last Wine Paradise in The World visit to the vineyards and the winery at Kaštele; introduction to Crljenac, wine tasting; visit to a winery on Hvar and tasting of the indigenous varieties Bogdanuša and Parč, and the wine Plavac Mali; wine tasting of the Kujundžuša variety

Few places in the world have such a perfect blend of microclimate, terrain and human nature as Dalmatia. If only one part of that circuit fails, much of the quality and tradition of growing grapes and the production of wine would be absent. The thousand year old tradition of winemaking in Dalmatia has produced more than 400 indigenous varieties of wine, which no other country in the world can boast. It is said: “There are as many Dalmatian islands as there are varieties of wine.” The most famous vineyards in Dalmatia and their grape varieties are on the Pelješac peninsula and on the island of Hvar. It is believed that the culture of cultivating grapes in the Mediterranean dates back more than 4000 years, and in the area of Pelješac, the ancient Greeks first cultivated the peninsula to produce wine that had a special place in their culture. Experience the beauty of altitude and the steep slopes while enjoying a pleasant draught of wine with a welcoming host.

Mediterranean Plants In Dalmatian Cuisine two days in the mountains in the vicinity of Split; visit Biokovo Nature Park; expert guidance of guide-hikers; visit ethno village of Kokorići and winery in Vrgorac, preparing snail with scallions and mišanci

Mountains and the sea are nowhere as dramatically linked as in central Dalmatia. The mountains overhanging the coastal borders have always been an obstacle for communication with the interior. The roads carved into the bedrock were used to transport salt, as valuable as gold, and wine, which had been cultivated for generations. The mountains also provided assistance in food storage during the summer months, offering a myriad of ice caves, as well as unlimited quantities of wild plants that have enabled the development of a specific Mediterranean cuisine in this area. Just as these two extremes are interwoven in the real history of Dalmatian gastronomy, you will experience in this tour the same two extremes. You will get to know the mountains, their beauty and their cruelty, as well as the wealth of flora and fauna. On the coast you will use these in the kitchen, just like our ancestors did.

The Spicy and Piquant Flavours of Split introduction to the history of Split; culinary tour of the city with stops at wine bars; Dalmatian wine and cheese; short workshop about wines; pairing wine and food at dinner; trip to the city market

“In the wealthy homes of erstwhile Dalmatia, all these spicy flavours and aromas, tangy, exotic, so different, they miraculously managed to merge in an original and rare culinary fusion. The cuisine of old Dalmatia and Split, comprising an ethnic mosaic of borderland cultures, into which diverse civilizations and culinary imaginations poured from all corners of the world, was then regarded as one of the finest in Europe ... “ Thus, in his autobiography “Exile”, wrote Enzo Bettiza, Italian writer, journalist and politician, and native of Split. Come on a culinary tour of Split with plenty of stops for refreshment at wine bars. We will taste indigenous wines with unusual names like Crljenak, Tribidrag, Bogdanuša, Vugava, and Prč. With a buying expedition to the market, including some of the finest Dalmatian cheeses, relish the aromas and match them later with wine at dinner.

Following the roads of old laborers by bicycle bicycle route across Čiovo and surrounding areas; visit to the convent of the Holy Cross, church of the Lady of Prizidnica and the convent of Saint Nicholas; riding a ferry to the small island of Drvenik Veli and having lunch in a village household

The island of Čiovo is situated in the gulf of Kaštele just opposite the city of Trogir. It is a charming island with lots of coves and beaches and abundant tradition. Our journey begins in front of the Dominican monastery where the holy cross was discovered, given by the Prizidnica hermit as a votive present, two meters high and made out of olive tree, and carried on his own back. We will also visit the old rock quarry of the island of Čiovo out of which hardworking hands once drew stone for the stone houses and streets. We continue our journey towards the Prizidnice desert where, on windswept cliffs, Glagolitic priests built, over the years, a beautiful shrine to the Mother of God. The nuns of the St.Nicholas convent in the city will also open their doors for us, although they have not left the convent’s thick walls for years. There you will see a symbol of Trogir- Kairos, according to legend the God of the supreme moment. On this journey you will embark upon many happy moments you will treasure for many years.

Bravely to The Top of Biokovo ride to the village of Makar; hike to the top at Vošac , occasionally stopping to rest and enjoy the view; drive by minibus to the highest peak of Biokovo, Sveti Jure; enjoying the view of the sea and Bosnia

When we mention the ascent of a mountain, our first thoughts are hikers, climbers, ice axes, rope, and a variety of other equipment required for climbing. If we add the sweat and toil, it seems unattainable for most of us, who only want a little bit of fresh air and the tranquillity of unspoiled nature. On this package, it is possible for almost anyone. You only need better shoes for walking on uneven ground and good will. First, we go to the village of Makar at 300 metres. We continue on foot to Vošac at the top which is 1422 metres, but the ascent is not hard. All along the way, there are beautiful views of large parts of the Makarska Riviera and the islands. From Vošac we continue by minibus to the highest peak of Biokovo, Sveti Jure at 1762 meters, where we have a unique view, a stunning panorama of the Biokovo hinterland and the central Bosnian Mountains.

Night at The Top of Biokovo driving with a short stop for a panoramic tour to the highest peak on the Mediterranean coast, Sveti Jure; with unforgettable views of the surrounding countryside, enjoying the spectacle of the arrival of the evening; the night view of the coast on our return

Everyone loves to watch sunsets. There is something magical in the knowledge that the sun goes away and the mysterious darkness appears, and the awareness that there will be light again tomorrow. However, we offer a unique evening. From the heights of Biokovo, you can enjoy the spectacular sunset, when it “fits” into the sea, spilling at its surface a colour no painter would be able to mix. Immediately after sunset complete darkness occurs (no twilight), and the stars are just around to drop for a dear person. We will stay for a moment in this rich darkness, which is hard to find nowadays with so many light contaminated skies. We turn on our lamps, so we can return to the car. On the way back, we enjoy the view of the aviation lights of places at the foot of Biokovo, scattered along the coast, happier to be richer by one unique experience.

In the saddle of your bike you will go on a tour of Vela Luka and Blato in Korčula, and then on the waves towards the island of Vis. Because of such isolation, the majority of the population moved out, and now Vis is waiting for you, intact, to discover it. The next jewel is Biševo, one of the most beautiful islands with the special Blue Cave. And finally, there is Komiža, so typically Dalmatian and with a beautiful spirit that will win you over in a heartbeat.

Pulling Mrduja departure for Mrduja; experiencing the moment of the pulling of Mrduja between the islanders of Šolta and Brač; participating in the folk festival in Stomorska, i.e. in Milna; free t-shirt inscribed with Pulling Mrduja

The islands of Brač and Šolta are only 800m away from each other, however the non-existence of a shipping service has made them much further than they actually are. Pulling Mrduja is one means of bringing these two islands closer together. On two days every year the direct ship line between Brač and Šolta simultaneously offers an opportunity for locals and the guests to visit the other island and get to know it, with the aim of enriching tourist activity on both islands. Pulling Mrduja is traditionally held each year on the last weekend of July. The entire event consists of three parts and it lasts for two days. The final celebration is held each year on a different island. Brass bands, klape, cultural arts societies and associations from Šolta and Brač, as well as numerous locals from both islands directly participating with their own boats, all take part in the tradition of Pulling Mrduja. Come and take part in the pulling of the island of Mrduja. You might enjoy it and you decide to come back next year.

Excavation of Ancient Settlement Siculi archaeological excavation under expert supervision (Hellenic / Roman layer); diving courses and tours of underwater sites; evening tours, local cuisine, ancient Salona, Trogir and the palace of Emperor Diocletian

This is a tourist-archaeological trip along the beaches of the bay of Kaštele which will surely enchamt you, an educational and active vacation in an environment of beautiful blues and greens which dominate the landscape between Split and Trogir and offer a unique experience. The rich and turbulent history of this area is an endless source of discoveries from different historical periods - it is evident that the area has not been sufficiently explored. The ancient village that we are excavating, recently identified as SICULI, is a settlement mentioned by the Roman writer Pliny, built on an earlier Hellenic grid. The Roman veterans of XI Roman Legion inhabited SICULI under the orders of Emperor Claudius in the first century AD. In the many years of excavation many interesting finds have been made, including coins, medals and ceramic artefacts. Next to the site are two submerged ancient ports you can access during a diving course.
